Anyone watch $10 Dinners on Food Network?

Posted: Mar 9, 2012

Would this $10 meal really feed your family of 4??  I know it would not feed mine!  And where does se get these ingredientes so cheap?  Not even at our local low level food store.  And one thing that really bothers me is she says buy a bag of dried beans and cook them yourself and freeze them in portion sizes.  It is cheaper than buying the canned beans.  When once you pay for all those high prived small freezer bags, it is a lot more expensive than just buying a can of beans!  She also talks down to you like you are a child or an idiot.  She has some good recpies, my son likes to watch her and when there is a really intertesting recipe he wants to try, asks me to watch with him and I will and sometimes they are great, but at least need to double the recpices with my family.  Just wondering what others though?

I think the way they figure the cost of items is that when they buy an ingredient, say a bag of corn and only use a portion of that bag of corn, they prorate that price. For example, if a bag of corn costs $3 and only half a bag is needed, it is divided in half. I think their portions must be awfully small. I can't see a husband eating the same amount as a 10-year-old child.

I gave up watching her - Carrie

for many of the reasons you mentioned. I find her smug and arrogant, constantly making comments like "when I lived in France" or "when we were in graduate school" as though everyone in her audience is a an uneducated hick who could never aspire to be as cultured as she. I find her irritating and unpleasant. I wonder what her guests feel like if her entertaining menus are actually what she serves. I'll bet they all stop at McDonald's on the way home because they're still hungry.

Her recipes would not feed my family, not even close. I really do not like most of the recipes I see on her show anyway. You made me laugh about her dinner guests, as we have some friends like that. They invite us over and the food is delicious, but they never make enough. We always plan on having something at home to eat for when we get home.

find a place on the network site to comment on her. - public opinion does matter

shout it everywhere you can - even on her site if she has one.

She has some interesting ideas. - Berta

I don't let any of the rest of that other superficial stuff bother me. I'll take a good idea from anyone whether their personality happens to be my "cup of tea" or not.

I mean, it's not like she wants to be my BFF or something.

Just sayin'.

have equally good or better ideas but don't exhibit arrogance and contempt for their audience. I watch them. You watch what you want.

When you go to a pot luck and bring something, do you bring it home when you leave?I am from LI originally and I never saw anyone bring their food home. I originally lived on the east coast of FL and never saw people bring it home but I am on the west coast and it seems I am the only one that leaves the food for the host.Wondering if it is a regional thing. On the east coast most people are from NY or NJ and on this coast most of the people I know are from MI or IL. ...

So, Bin Laden's media advisor hated Fox News, liked MSNBC and complained about the firing of Olbermann?  Ouch.  "Bin Laden and his aides hoped for big terrorist operations to commemorate the 10th anniversary of 9/11. They also had plans for the media. In a message to OBL, Gadahn wrote of what would be the best TV outlet for the video. “It should be sent for example to ABC, CBS, NBC, and CNN and maybe PBS and VOA. As for Fox News let her die in her anger.” He also ...

We have been round and round with this kitty since we inherited him from my MIL.  He was always a puker and I have improved that condition with different food and hairball treats, but I'm wondering if the pukin ...

About Picking Up Restautant Food And TipMay 10, 2010
We were talking at my office about picking up restautant food, and whether or not a tip is justified. Example, if you call in an order to a restaurant like Claim Jumper (citing an example a co-worker used) and you swing by to pick it up on the way home, would you tip? Technically, you're not in the restaurant and getting service. Typically, a tip is given due to the service provided by the waitstaff. I said maybe one would be justified if you stayed parked and they brought it to you. I usua ...
