what should happen to the couple who crashed

the White House? I'm interested in seeing opinions.

I think they should be commended for showing the lack of security and the lack of people doing their jobs adequately.

I think.... - anon

I don't know who they were, but they showed complete lack of authority. What if they were somebody who wanted to harm the president. They would have succeeded. I would like to see the person who let them through security be fired, and I would like to see the couple pay a hefty fine or go to jail. What do they do to people who try to harm the president. If they were'nt invited then they should not have been there.

The most important thing is keeping the president safe. Truth is nobody knows who this couple is. I'm watching all different news channels and nobody knows who they are. How do they know their intent was not to harm the president and his wife.

They should not get a reality TV show for this and they should maybe even face jail. Same thing that happened to the balloon boy's father and mother.

I think they should be prosecuted to the fullest extent of the law. Remember the movie "In The Line of Fire" how bad guy John Malkevich smuggled a wooden firearm thru security then reassembled it under the table and shot at the president. You better believe any bad buy wannabees or terrorist types take notes. Also believe whoever watch this happened under, they should be disciplined severely be it Social Secretary or Secret Service

Trespassing? - NJ

[ In Reply To ..]
Knowing that could happen scared me. The Secret Service is stretched very thin in this administration, as we've heard before. Bonehead stunts like this need to be addressed. I vote for prosecuting them under whatever law is applicable.

The Secret Service also has to take the time (regardless of how overtaxed they currently are) to investigate fully just how this was allowed to happen and discipline whomever slipped up. If that's the guy at the door, fine. If he was following protocol, which I doubt, whomever set the rules needs to be disciplined.

Scary stuff :(

They knew full well they were pulling a stunt and should be prepared for whatever punishment is appropriate. But they also may have done the president a favor by showing him just how vulnerable he is and that maybe he is throwing just a few too many parties.

Diplomacy - NJ

[ In Reply To ..]
This wasn't a cookout or a dance party for friends. It was a diplomatic event. Your response shows a real lack of understanding of his job.

NJ

I share your vote for prosecuting them, NJ. (sm) - Nikki

[ In Reply To ..]
This President is the most vulnerable that I can remember, so I get the part about the Secret Service being overtaxed. However, they either need to get more Secret Service agents if that's the case. It sounds like the insiders at the White House who created the guest list were a little careless, as well.

But these people should definitely be prosecuted to the full extent of the law.

I third your vote - just me/hmmm

[ In Reply To ..]
They new what they were doing was wrong. When you commit a crime knowing you are doing wrong you should be prosecuted.

In these times people cannot be too careful that the wrong people would get through.
Did you see this couple on TV? (sm) - Nikki
[ In Reply To ..]
They were complaining that their lives had been ruined because of all this. (The woman actually said all 44 of her years were ruined.) So now they're the victims. Puhleeeeeeeeeeeeeeze!! I hope they bring tiny violins to jail with them.
I did see this - see message - just me/hmmm
[ In Reply To ..]
I only heard a couple of the lines they said like "We were invited. Our lives are ruined. We would have never just wandered in, we are not like that, blah, blah, blah. I didn't catch the whole thing. Okay, I have to laugh... "all 44 of her years were ruined". AHAAAA HA HA HA. Man, talk about being a little dramatic there. After all isn't that her age? She doesn't look much past 45. If so, I'm just picturing her infancy ruined because of this stunt they pulled. And if so....it's their own fault.

Then I heard Gibbs speak and he said something like (don't quote me word for word) - "The bottom line is if you don't have an invitation you are not invited. If your name is not on the guest list you are not invited." I thought to myself - I don't think it doesn't take a rocket scientist to figure out that one.

I read in the article that they said they were invited to the bash by a Washington Law Firm with ties to a senior Pentagon official. The only think I could think of is, does this law office make out the guest list?

To me bottom line is...you don't have an invitation or your name is not on the guest list you are not invited no matter how bad you want to go. Maybe they thought since they used to know Obama years ago they would just slide right in and act as thought they were somehow as important as the people who were actually invited. To me this party crasher couple is very low class. And I thought I read something about them wanting to have their own reality show around this type of incident (party crashing). I may be wrong, but I heard that and don't know where I heard it, so again I may be wrong, but that's what I heard. If so, they are no better than the balloon boy's mother and father, and I hope they are seeing some jail time.

It's not just the safety of Obama and his wife. It also involves the safety of all the guests, and if they could get into that dinner around the security force, what's to say they couldn't get access to the white house, and if they were linked with terrorists, they could have set off something that would have gone off later after they have left. I also read that this couple has ties with a guy who is a terrorist or supports a terrorist. Didn't pay much attention to that, but that just goes to show you, unless your are approved to be there you have no business being there and I hope they are prosecuted to the fullest.

Whew! Was a little longer than I thought I'd write LOL.
Great post. I especially agree with the (sm) - Nikki
[ In Reply To ..]
comparison to those balloon boy clowns.

I also heard about a possible reality show, as well.

Did you see all those photos of this couple with Katie Couric, Joe Biden and Obama himself???? What the -- !!!

I definitely agree they need to be prosecuted to the fullest extent the law allows, and the Obama people need to straighten out this security lapse because, as you pointed out, if ANYONE can get in, then there are a lot of innocent people who may be in danger, including the President himself.

I surely have an opinion about these multi-thousand dollar gala affairs for hundreds and hundreds of the elitist of the elite crowd. How about just a plain ole bbq with jeans and boots acceptable dress????? That's what we commoners do ain't it???

Ahhh, but that would be so beneath them to do something we do - just me/hmmm

[ In Reply To ..]
These multi-thousand dollar galas goes to show you how out of touch they are with reality. They live in their own world and wouldn't even dream of bringing themselves down to our level. They think they are above it all.

I still believe that holding such frivolous parties when America is in such financial ruins is very irresponsible, and shows the American people they believe they are above us and how little they care about us.

It disgusts me first to know that they are doing this when the country is in a recession, but then to announce their menu and what designer gowns, jewels, etc everyone is wearing is just a show of glutton.

I like your idea and I'm with you too. Maybe they need to start having a few more BBQs. Blimey grill a steak if your to hoity-toity to eat a hot dog or burger. Guarantee you the BBQ would taste much better than some of the stuff I've seen on their menu.

The only good thing I did read was they used an eclectic mix of Clinton and Bush's china, so I hope to God that means she didn't go and blow a bunch of tax payers money on needless china.

Right. Bow and serve a hot dog. - NJ

Obama gets trashed for not swaggering around claiming the US is infallible. And he gets trashed for showing customary courtesy to other world leaders.

BBQ went out with the cowboy Dubya. We're back to serious stuff now. This ain't your father's president.

NJ
Serve a hot dog? Yes. Bow? NO WAY! He's doing enough bowing - just me/hmmm
[ In Reply To ..]
when he shouldn't be.

The country is in financial ruins and he is hosting $$$$$$$$$$$ dinner events like nothing is wrong.

President Bush had many elegant dinner parties when they were necessary. But he also had the sense to know when it was not appropriate. BBQ's and a get together should not be thrown out. Let the poeple of the country know you are real human beings like the rest of us (you included). We're back to serious stuff? You bet it's serious. Recession with a depression looming around the corner. People losing jobs, losing homes, going hungry. Wars on the brink of happening. Yeah, this is serious stuff. Too bad they at the WH and congress don't act like it's serious.

Yeah, this ain't my father's president. They are surely turning over in their graves knowing how the country is being destroyed.

But he is your president and if this is your kind of thing then you can have him.

First State Dinner - NJ
[ In Reply To ..]
It's November. It's his first state dinner. The prime minister of India was an honored guest. Throwing a bbq would have been tremendously insulting.

A state dinner is a part of diplomacy. Would you have us save money by shutting down embassies worldwide? Firing our ambassadors and all embassy staff? Or is it just that the Obamas were there? They don't deserve more than bbq? Maybe some watermelon for dessert? Holy smoly.

For goodness sake, it's been 9 months and it's the first state dinner. It's not like he's throwing a party every weekend. Sometimes these things are necessary. Let him do his job. He's not supposed to close the White House because the economy went in the crapper. There are still world affairs to take care of and that's what diplomacy is about.

It's also necessary for American people to have jobs and at least be able to have a full plate of hamburgers at a minimum. How about the politicians see about coming down to the level of the people they represent and quit always trying to one up the "Jones"? The world is in a mess. The prime minister of India could salt his burgers with the knowledge that his country now has a large number of jobs our people need. Has nothing whatsoever to do with the Obamas in particular. The government spending at the taxpayers expense is outrageous. If they must have these fancy smancy dinners let 'em all fund them themselves!!! I'm sick of it!

Why not fire the whole kitchen and have Michelle cook? Is she too good for the kitchen like the rest of us slaving over a hot stove for guests. I just cooked for thanksgiving for over 27 people. Mamie Eisenhower cooked for her man and she even made some of his clothes. Michelle don't work any longer so that would save boo-coo dinero.

Why should they be prosecuted? They aren't the ones who royally screwed up. They caused no harm to anyone and as far as I know, simply "walked through" several check points just like the rest of the world's upper eschelon. They mingled a bit and quietly bowed out before dinner was even served. What makes Katie Couric or Robin Roberts anymore deserving to be there? This couple pays taxes (probably more) than many of the wealthiest (with all their corporate loop-holes) that were in attendance.

Before you flame, it's 12:30 a.m. and I'm exhausted. There's a very good chance that I may read this tomorrow and be like, WTH was I thinking? LOL Night all!

they should be prosecuted...sm - vrvr

News is out that they pretend having been invited. I think they are cheaters. It is not the first time that they sneaked in uninvited to a dinner party and were escorted out.
It is said that she wants to become an actress. I bet this was their way to get in front of the cameras.
Prosecute them, cheaters and imposters.

Obama and his wife have the right to be very upset, toward this couple AND the Security.

Though nothing tragic happened and nobody got killed, I think this ought to be treated similar to 9-11. After all, like him or not, he is our commander in chief and this was the White House. They need to find out exactly how this happened and tighten up security. Face it - there are nuts out there who don't know anything about his policies. They just hate him because of his skin color. That alone puts him at increased risk.

[ In Reply To ..]
I was touched by many of the previous posters' protective attitude toward our president. It is lovely to see so many cared enough to voice their opinion. My second thought is that broadcasters are encouraging this type of behavior. As in the case of the balloon boy. If the networks interviewed others about the offenders but refused to interview the actual offenders, their efforts at publicity would be stymied. I was quite disappointed to see them on the Today show. I know they are to report the news but there are ways to do this without providing free face time to wannabe reality stars.

I think it's mainly out of respect for the office he holds. A lot of us have been thru JFK and/or Ronald Reagan being shot. I don't know of anyone who has seen those images will ever be able to get them out of their heads.

I don't know Obama personally so I really can't comment on if I like the guy or not. I can say that he's looking a little in over his head. But considering who is runner up.....

I don't believe every person photographed with the president is a close personal friend, but I do await an explanation for this. There is no benefit for Obama in this story, so I don't really know what to make of it. Thanks for the article.

I found this article - they say they were invited - just me/hmmm

[ In Reply To ..]
If they were invited then someone needs to hire a new person who does the guest list. I do think it is odd that people who are not invited can just walk in without an invitation. Just think there is more to this story.
