devout Muslims appointed to homeland security posts.

Posted: Oct 12, 2010

Does that not give one a moment of pause?   Yes, Arif Alikhan and Kareem Shora, which the administration identified as devout Muslims, given posts in Homeland Security.  Betcha didn't hear about it on your mainline news sources either.

and remember, it was devout Muslims that flew planes into our US buildings and a devout Muslim that killed 13 at Ft. Hood.

Talk about ruining this country from within.  We are well on the road.

;

They were RADICAL muslims not devouto muslims - Get your terminology right

I'm just as scared of radical christians as I am of radical muslims.

Devout muslims are COMPLETELY different and should not be tarred with the same brush. I respect anyone who has a deep and respectful faith, whatever their faith may be. It's the ones who take that faith and pervert it and use it to their own ends that we need to be afraid of.

And no I didn't hear about this on the "mainline news" because it's non-news.

sorry if I wasn't more clear. - sm

the Obama administration introduced them as "devout Muslims". They do in fact have radical ties. and as far as I am concerned, it IS news and is worrisome.

I also respect people's different faiths. However, serious Muslim religion is at odds with democracy, because by their own definition, having the choices inherent in democracy is against the true Muslim religion.

I really hope you will watch the PBS God in America - The protestants apparently were very much against

democratic-type choices and banished any dissenter of the approved doctrine. Apparently, change is not good.

Missing here, as usual, is your source. - Why so shy about posting it?

Afraid of what would follow, such as instant repudiation (as opposed to refutiation), via fact checks, context, logic, etc, if you reveal it?

Could it be that they are qualified, educated, credentialed, hard-working people?

Arif Alikhan is currently Assistant Secretary for Policy Development at the United States Department of Homeland Security. He is a former Deputy Mayor of Homeland Security and Public Safety for the City of Los Angeles and a former federal prosecutor with the United States Department of Justice in both Los Angeles and Washington, D.C.

Arif Alikhan was born in 1968 after his parents emigrated to North America from India and Pakistan in the late 1960s.[1]. He is one of several accomplished South Asian Americans appointed to the Obama Administration.[2]

Alikhan graduated cum laude from the University of California at Irvine in 1990 with a Bachelor of Arts degree in Social Ecology. He studied criminal justice, criminology and legal studies and conducted research in environmental analysis. He was a member of the Kappa Sigma fraternity (Mu Delta) and was appointed Commissioner of Campus Safety by the Associated Students of UC Irvine (ASUCI). He later attended Loyola Law School, Los Angeles where he graduated with honors and was the Chief Articles Editor of the Loyola Law Review.[3] Admitted to the California State Bar in 1993,[4] he subsequently worked as a Judicial Law Clerk for the Honorable Ronald S.W. Lew, United States District Judge, Central District of California, in Los Angeles [5] and then as an associate for the law firm of Irell and Manella, in Century City [6].

Alikhan's career in law enforcement, public safety, and homeland security also included service as a Technical Reserve Police Officer in Newport Beach, California, prosecuting juveniles while working in the Los Angeles District Attorney's Office, and prosecuting misdemeanor crimes with the Anaheim City Attorney's Office.[7] He then served 10 years with the U.S. Department of Justice as a federal prosecutor in Los Angeles from 1997 to 2005 and then as a senior official at the Department of Justice in Washington, D.C. from 2005 through 2006.

Alikhan was recognized by the United States Department of Justice for his superior performance while serving as the first Chief of the Cyber and Intellectual Property Crimes Section at the U.S. Attorney's Office in Los Angeles.[8] Based on his work in Los Angeles, he was recruited to work in Washington D.C. to as a Senior Adviser to both Attorney General John Ashcroft and Attorney General Alberto Gonzales to handle cybercrime and intellectual property initiatives. Alikhan has received awards from numerous federal law enforcement agencies including the FBI, U.S. Secret Service, Defense Criminal Investigative Service, Immigration and Customs Enforcement, Bureau of Alcohol Tobacco and Firearms, and NASA Office of Inspector General.

areem Shora has been a sworn member of the Homeland Security Advisory Council since June 5, 2009.[1] He is the National Executive Director for the American-Arab Anti-Discrimination Committee (ADC) in Washington, D.C. and was selected by the Ford Foundation as a member of the Foreign Policy Task Force designing their Laboratory for New Thinking on Foreign Policy. Shora received the American Immigration Lawyers Association "Arthur C. Helton Human Rights Award."

Fact check? - What's that?

It's much easier to post a statement that is intended to rile people up and just leave it at that. Facts, shmacts. We don't need no stinking facts.

Radical Americans scare me with their willful ignorance just as much as radical muslims and radical christians do.
Not sure what you are referring to here, Obama appointed them last year. - old news
[ In Reply To ..]
but should be concerning news, except to those still under the Obama can do no wrong spell. Face it, he is going to get away with a lot of scary stuff!!
This has nothing to do with Obama and - everything to do with baseless prejudice and

bigotry, hate and fear mongering. Whether low-key, high-pitched, thinly veiled allusion and innuendo, or straight-up spew, it is all coming from the same steaming pile of manure. It is hardly benign, never innocent, and always has consequences, as does any type of nationalist-, race-, gender- or sexual orientation-based division baiting. We only have to survey the news over the past 6 weeks of gay suicides and brutal attacks to find the evidence where this can end up.

In this case, the junk is launched against 2 successful, distinguished, devout Muslims who have earned the positions to which they have been appointed and have much to contribute in the way of national security. See the let-me-look-that-up post for details. Did it every occur to you how valuable American-Muslim insights, viewpoints and perspectives can be in the war on terror? Of course not. You are too busy nurturing your own willful ignorance and broadcasting your inability to distinguish between devout and radical members of any faith. Pure parochial poppycock.
That's right we can no longer question anything, lol - just sit back and let it all happen
[ In Reply To ..]
Obama and his gang talk a good talk and then turn it around on us if we question ANYTHING! Yep, now we are intolerant racists. You got his speech just right. Sorry, but not everybody are his sheep who help hide facts. The rest of us should be allowed to point out what the news sheep forget to report.

to revamp an inflammatory, divisive, and controversial program based on religious profiling that was proposing to target entire communities instead of individual extremist suspects. It was impractical, unworkable and would have diluted resources. BTW, Alikhan did not dismantle the program. It caved under public outcry and scrutiny.

Muslims ??Feb 25, 2012
Its surprising to me to see so many of these threads devoted to Islam when our real enemies are the fat cats in our own government and financial institions and the corporations who have taken their factories OS and who use OS workforces to cut us out of the picture except as the consumers.  The threat from radical Islam is small and inconsequential in comparison to what has been done to us on a secular level and we are deluding ourselves, and I believe, being fooled into focusing on a small ...

Muslims And Gays In The MilitaryFeb 03, 2010
OK, somebody has to say it. It’s uncomfortable and it makes whoever says it open to being called a “Pharisee,” a “homophobe,” a “bigot,” a sanctimonious hater, a benighted troglodyte, or worse. Somebody has to endure that, though. We need to act like grown up, secure people who can talk about difficult things and resolve them. So, to quote one of my favorites, Bob Seger and the Silver Bullet Band, “Call me a relic, call me what you will. Say I&rsq ...

The Bizarre Notion That Muslims Must Become A MajorityJul 16, 2016
Someone posted an (incorrect) analysis regarding the theoretical increase in the Muslim population in America.  It failed to take a number of factors into account and was slanted in a painfully obvious way toward her position, but that's not what I'm discussing here. I think, sometimes, that the most treasonous failure of the American educational system is that it manages to spit out "graduates" (even from college) who haven't the faintest notion not only of how to think or ...

These communities distinctly do NOT WANT to be integrated.  They want to set up mini-states - or, literally, mini-caliphates - within the host countries, where Sharia law prevails, where the imams rule, where they literally have their own "police force", where the language of the host country is not spoken, and where citizens and even emergency services of the host country are not welcome to enter.  There are literally hundreds of these mini-states now in Europe, and integration - exce ...
