From a CNN article online: The tea party movement was born in early 2009 to protest the Wall Street bailouts initiated under President George W. Bush a few months earlier. It also opposed the stimulus and other economic and health care policies of President Barack Obama, who succeeded Bush in the White House.

So at least the party is protesting the policies of both parties, not just Obama... at least on this issue. There is STILL however a deep vein of racism running through the party. If they could excise this they would have more credibility as most of us agree that we must reduce our dependence on FOREIGN funding!!

As for your other assumption, I can't afford cable so I do not watch CNN, FOX, MSNBC, ETC. They are all pretty much the same: PROPAGANDa machines with slightly different agendas

Did you see the Confederate flag hanging at the gates at the White House? Some people are just chompin' at the bit to start killing other Americans. They're so full of rabid hatred that I'd bet they can't wait to fire off their guns first!

Certainly, this country doesn't need a bunch of zealot gun owners out to kill innocent Americans.

My husband and I joined a TP-type group not long after Bush passed the Patriot Act. Obviously we didn't call ourselves the Tea Party, but we sort of evolved into that in 2009 after the bailouts - some of us have been unhappy with the government for quite a while. We've been to several protest marches in DC during both administrations, quite a few to protest the wars in the middle east.

I don't believe, however, that racism runs deep in the republican party - there are just too many black conservatives that are very highly regarded for that to be true. Yes, there are going to be some that don't like Obama solely because of his skin color, but you can't generalize an entire group like that.

BTW, I totally agree with you on reducing our dependence on foreign funding - I think the problem is that no one knows where to start. No matter what in the budget you pick to cut, there's going to be a group or lobbyist that's going to argue to keep it. No one wants to make anyone mad, especially this close to reelection. Here's where term limits and abolishing lobbyists might come in handy, IMO.
