Unfortunately I didn't get to see

all of the GOP debate. I got to see some highlights but that was about it. Anyone have any thoughts as to who did the best/worst, etc.

My thinking.... - hmmm
[ In Reply To ..]
I didn't see all of it, but I saw most of it. This what my impression...
Romney: Came off as a slick, polished politician, and too much of an "insider" to ever appeal to me anyway.
Santorum: Probably the most conservative of the candidates - seemed to have the best grasp of foreign policy.
Cain: Strongest on economy, seemed to have concrete ideas for how to get back to job creation again.
Paul: I really didn't understand why he got so much applause for his statements. He has such radical, fringe ideas I can't see him appealing to mainstream Republicans or Independents. Is okay with Iran having nuclear capabilities.
Bachmann: She got attacked (especially by Pawlenty) and remained cool under pressure. Her biggest weakness is that she is a conservative woman - and the MSM will try to pulverize her as it did Palin. Got asked the question that received the most boos (about submitting to her husband). Answered well. I think she will give Romney a run for his money.
Pawlenty: Looked like a whiner for attacking Bachmann and didn't have many original ideas to offer. I think he will finish low in the straw polls and fade out of the race.
Huntsman: Seemed clueless. I have no idea why he's even running.
Gingrich: Got the most applause for his answer where he called out the media for asking "gotcha" questions. I think he can still make a run if he gets his campaign staff back in order.
There is a full transcript of the entire debate here if you want to read it.

I didn't think Mitt did much. I agree he did look like a slick politician and that turns me off...plus I still don't see how he can defend his RomneyCare and yet oppose Obamacare...I just don't get that.
Bachmann didn't do bad and I do like her but she needs to make sure she doesn't continue to mis speak about anything or the MSM will attack her even more than they have been. Unfortunatley I just don't think a conservative woman has a snowballs chance in he11 at winning here.
Gingrich seemed like a grumpy old man who didn't want to answer the questions and instead smarted off. He didn't appeal to me at all but perhaps that is because I just don't like him as a candidate.
Huntsman looked like he was gonna hurl and he seems more democrat to me than republican...so he is out for me.
I would have liked to see more from Cain. I like him and he is refreshing because he isn't a politician. However, his lack of experience concerns me at the same time. So I'm divided on my opinion of him. He seems like a very likeable guy and speaks very well in public. His answers were definitely more concise then some of the others who talked longer.
Paul, to me, looked like a senile old man who isn't quite all there. I used to really like where he stood on the matters but the whole Iran thing bugged me. Plus...he just sounded more like a quack the way he presented himself. Not sure what was up with that.
To me it seemed like Bachmann definitely outshined Pawlenty and he didn't do that great.
I just don't know what to say about Santorum. I don't think he has a chance but he is very conservative.
So all in all...I still haven't picked my personal front runner. I don't think Sarah Palin should jump in the race because she will just take people away from Bachmann when they both pretty much have the same stance on things. As for Perry....I need to do some more research on him.
Ron Paul was the smartest guy on that stage. sm sm - LVMT

He was also right about Iran. He has also been 100% correct on all his predictions concerning the economy well in advance of it happening. Do a little more research on these candidates. Cain is an insider who worked as chairman for the Federal Reserve, responsible for ruining our economy. Romney and Gingrich are both establishment owned and will do their bidding. Bachmann sounds good, but if you look at her voting record, you will see she voted for bailouts, the (un) Patriot Act and extending it, continuing the wars that have bankrupted this nation, and was a prosecuting attorney for the IRS (a big no-no for believers in limited, constitutional government).
Here is one of many articles I found summarizing the Iowa debate, a lot them saying Dr. Paul won it.

The GOP is not going to stick us with another fake conservative. If he is not the nominee, his supporters will all either vote third party or sit it out. The GOP does not have any other candidates we will vote for. He consistently polls nationally around 16%. The libertarian wing of the GOP is roughly 10%. That is enough of a trim for the GOP to not win the general election. He is also not running for reelection for his congressional seat. I do not know that he will, but we are hoping he will run independent.
I hope he doesn't run at all. - Social issues are just

as important and fiscal issues, if not more so. Fiscal politics make people mad, but social politics make people fight. I would like to see a strong conservative, but doubt that I will.

Pawlenty brought up Bachman's past and her record and the fact that she has absolutely no experience. And also she keeps mistating herself and getting history wrong. I think his best line to her was "If that's your best, then please stop because you are killing us". Her replies were weak and she couldn't argue the facts. I'm not going to vote for a person to lead the country because she "tried really hard". I think she came out as the biggest loser of the debate (thought truthfully I didn't see the whole thing. I used to think Pawlenty was weak, but I liked what he had to say and what he has done in his political career. Unfortunately I think he's too weak to win over Obama. We are going to need someone strong. I like having another black candidate, so then the race issue cannot be brought up, and while I like Herman Cain and I think he'd do a great job with the economy and getting jobs back, I don't think he'd win.
Still need to watch more, but I wish Bachman would get out of the race so that the more experienced and more serious candidates could get on and we could take the race seriously. Otherwise with her it's just another high school cheerleader thinking she's all that and she's not.
Really? - hmmm

We have a President who had virtually no experience and gave us such gems as campaigning in "all 57 states." Didn't seem to ruin his chances.
Same thing I was thinking!! Obama had no experience - and sticks foot in mouth... a lot.nm

My opinion is that Newt won the whole thing hands down. He has the most experience in dealing with presidencies, congress, etc. He has been there, he has seen it. He's definitely an insider that knows that ins and outs of the whole system. He had facts, actual facts, to questions they asked instead of "talking" around the question. I've watched him on TV a couple of times and I definitely think he knows his stuff. He also wasn't afraid to call out the media on their questions, which shows backbone, and that's what we need.
Our country is run by corporations anyway. - If you want SM

corporations to have even more power, then definitely vote Republican. However, the dems are not far behind them IMO. It almost doesn't matter anymore. The only thing that will help our job situation is to stop rewarding corporations who outsource, but that will never happen. Neither party will do anything about that.

Actually, one of the republicans commented about outsourcing and allowing corporations tax breaks who do work overseas and said they'd put a stop to it to get work back in the US, but I don't remember which one...
