Guess I was a little late alerting about the Williamsburg trip. Didn't know about the below info:

Yesterday, the House of Representatives passed by a vote of 247 - 181 another short-term continuing resolution to fund the government for one additional week. It includes $12 billion worth of spending cuts, while also funding the Defense Department for the remainder of the year.

But, Senate Democrats and the President rejected that measure. Senator Reid said it is a "non starter," and President Obama released a statement saying he would veto the bill.

Pres. Obama has canceled a planned weekend trip to Williamsburg, VA, in order to stay in Washington and continue work on budget negotiations.

On Wednesday, Democrats offered two different motions that would have continued funding for military pay through December. On the first, offered by Rep. Bill Owens (D-N.Y.), only a single Republican crossed the aisle to vote for it. On the second, sponsored by Steny Hoyer, every GOPer voted no.

I just do NOT get that. Drowning in red ink and he proposes a 1.3 trillion budget and no cuts in sight from his side. I absolutely do not understand why they continue to ignore the deficit and still want to spend spend spend. I mean it goes from Washington to the Democrats on this board. All they want to do is yell about the cuts the Republicans are putting out there and offer nothing themselves except badmouthing Republicans. I can understand politicians lying through their teeth and acting like they haven't got a lick of sense but regular everyday Americans buying into that, supporting it, and attacking other Americans over it just mystifies me. It's like there is this massive disconnect between reality and what the Democrats in Washington are saying, and regular Democrat folks (at least the ones here) jumped off the reality train to jump on the disconnect train.

The fact that he even proposed a 1.3 trillion budget and that you would support that is beyond me, given the state this country is in.

What programs do YOU suggest cutting? What spending do YOU suggest cutting? Or are you one of those who think the country is not in a financial crisis and we just keep going 90 mph down the spend highway until we crash. You know what happens then? NO programs get funded. If that is what you want, you are well on your way.

Please, instead of panning the other side for at least understanding cuts need to be made, make some alternate suggestions. You are sure what you don't want...so provide an alternative. Because some cuts HAVE to be made. That is where we are.

It is your right to protest cuts you don't like...but it rings kind of hollow if you don't make any suggestions as to what to cut. Just taxing "the rich" is not going to fix what ails us. We need to stop putting out more than we are taking in.

I also don't understand the ragging on the rich, when as it has been posted some of the top 5% of wage earners are big donators to liberal causes. Not only do they pay in 41% of all personal taxes paid in, they also support foundations and spent millions that way. And still that is not enough. You just want more and more and more gimmes, and the trouble is, they don't want to work to add to the pot to pay for it.

You do realize at some point the gimmes are going to outnumber the workers and what happens then? Your socialist idea will have won out, the government will own everything, the middle class disappears and now all you have left is lower/poor class, and guess what? All those gimmes cease to exist.

Do me a favor, and see what government programs exist in Venezuela and Cuba to help the "people?" The socialist people's revolutions got those people nowhere. Check out the poor/lower class in USSR while you are at it...see how many government programs exist to take care of them.

Now please...don't rip the Republicans for what they suggest cutting if you (and the Democratic party) cannot come up with cuts you can "live with."

The path we are on is not sustainable. And I would question ANY party who does not recognize that.

Again, I don't see anything on this except one that was referred to the House Ways and Means Committee. It was introduced 2/10/2011.
