We have a new Republican governor who is trying to pass a bill to do away with all rules

Posted: Mar 10, 2011

The new governor is trying to pass bills which allow the governor to appoint all directors of all agencies and get rid of them at will. Also, the governor wants to get rid of all "rules" that any agency or committee has established unless the governor decides that those rules should exist.

The country is finally waking up to the fact that we have a bunch of bullies who got themselves elected by saying the right things, but are turning into something else entirely.

Nobody likes bullies. This is going to come back to bite them at election time, if they allow elections in the future. Someone needs to remind them that this is not a 3rd-world country...yet.

;

which governor is this? can you post - article with details?

something tells me there is more to this story. And as for bullies...that is the Dems in spades on the national stage....hence the midterm shellacking. They are still bullies, still spreading the lies, still stirring up the socialist class warfare mantra...and we still SEE it. We don't listen to what they say anymore...just watch what they do.

Here is some of the background for the Michigan - governor - the "corporate

managers" are financial managers to help struggling in the red cities get back to financial health...and there is already a law, apparently, on the books for that, the new law is adding to it? Anyway, some background here.

The gov is free to consult with whomever he wants on all things fiscal, but when it comes time to form committees, formulate goals, agendas, solutions, etc, he is bound by the state constitution to use ELECTED OFFICIALS. Hello. This means folks chosen by voters to represent them. Oversight on your part, or does this not matter one way or the other to you? Are you really trying to defend this? REALLY?

He is not free to dissolve local governments, dismiss elected officials without elections, control local civil services, disregard the stated will of the voters and appoint his hand-picked UNELECTED folks in their place. Capiche?
Well why are you so upset? Can we all say - Obama\'s czars???
[ In Reply To ..]
This is not the first time this has been done (appointing people without approval of Congress, i.e. people's representatives). I guess it is different when Democrats do it.

I don't think I heard you bemoaning that on this board did I??? Uhh...no.
There is a HUGE difference between - sm

a president empowered by the US Constitution to establish and staff committees versus a governor who is trying to do away with elections AND the state constitution, crown himself king and annoint a palace full of corporate court jesters.

Instead of mouthing all that Fox drivel, try checking out the powers of the president section of the Constitution before posting.
Excuse me...the President is NOT empowered - by the constitution to appoint
[ In Reply To ..]
anyone without approval of Congress. He is certainly not allowed to pick and choose which laws the attorney general defends in court, but he has done that too.

And before you start sending someone to check out the powers of the President in the Constitution, you should do so yourself:

He shall have Power, by and with the Advice and Consent of the Senate, to make Treaties, provided two thirds of the Senators present concur; and he shall nominate, and by and with the Advice and Consent of the Senate, shall appoint Ambassadors, other public Ministers and Consuls, Judges of the supreme Court, and all other Officers of the United States, whose Appointments are not herein otherwise provided for, and which shall be established by Law: but the Congress may by Law vest the Appointment of such inferior Officers, as they think proper, in the President alone, in the Courts of Law, or in the Heads of Departments.

He cannot do it without advice and consent of Congress unless they pass a law giving him that power and THEY HAVE NOT.

So be careful before looking down your long superior nose at others, and if you watched MORE Fox you might be more inclined to see the OTHER side of the issxue (most issues have TWO sides) and would not spout such one-sided, to use your word, DRIVEL.

And you wonder why we have your number now. Careful...you elitist snobbery is showing.
Thanks for the compliment, buzz, buzz, buzz. - nm

You wrote, "He is not free to dissolve local governments, dismiss elected officials without elections, control local civil services, disregard the stated will of the voters and appoint his hand-picked UNELECTED folks in their place. Capiche?"

In my state our new Republican Governor is dissolving local government, giving the Governor the right to dismiss and replace people at will, placing hand-picked unelected folks in their place. THAT IS HAPPENING THIS WEEK. That's why this is such an important time. We've got people, who in this case happen to be Republican Governors, doing things that are against everything our country stands for. I don't care what party does it, it has to be stopped. In this case, it happens to be Republican leaders who are doing it, but if the Democrats ever try to take the government from the people, I would be just as upset. That's why the '14' acted to try to stop it in their state, but nobody is doing anything in mine. It's happening right now in several other states as well, which sounds to me as if it has been planned. I'm not into conspiracy theories, but this is a takeover, taking power from the people, pure and simple. No matter who is doing it, it must be stopped. Recalls are definitely in order.
I take it you are in Michigan? - the law is already passed?
[ In Reply To ..]
he is dissolving governments this week? Which ones? Who is he removing from office and why? Name a few. Please post some facts or links to articles. If you are going to point fingers and talk in generalities...generally means generalities all you have. Just sayin.
No, not Michigan - nm

No, not Michigan. Several states, including mine, got hit this week with major power plays. The timing was dramatic, not allowing for debate or discussion. In our state people don't even know what happened yet unless they've been monitoring the state web site. This whole thing is making me physically ill. I'm serious. I've got to get away from the discussion because I find it very alarming for our country. It isn't a matter of one party over another. The part that is making me sick is the level of vitriol being spewed everywhere. I never thought our country would get to this level.
It's hard to take this seriously when you don't - name even one of the
[ In Reply To ..]
states you are talking about. but, you are right to get away from the discussion if it is affecting you to that degree...

you should realize that a lot of the posting go on here is histrionics and rabble rousing, and a few simple internet searches to see BOTH sides of the issue shows it is not the Republicans are out to bust unions take over the country and eat your children that some folks on this board are making it out to be.

What is going on on this board has everything to do with parties, and yeah, that part of it IS disturbing. One party took a really big hit in the midterms, their President is up for re-election next year, and they know if they don't come up with something BIG they are going to lose even more in 2012.

Their "big" of the month is union busting and Republican takeover when their President has done the same things or worse.

Same song, second verse. They know it is not the big deal they are making it out to be. They lit a little fire and hoped it would turn into a blaze and it just didn't. It just kind of went pftt.

Again, sorry if you are upset by it, and it is hard to know what is so upsetting to you when you won't give any specifics at all...even about what it is that you are finding on the state websites.

How in the world could you think that your state could find out you said something on an anonymous posting board and come after you for it? Seriously?

Why do you think this is taking power from the people?
No, this is EXACTLY what our country stands for. Walker is doing what he was elected to do - stand up and actually be a leader and make some tough decisions. Haven't seen much leadership from the Democrat party lately, including the White House.

The people have not lost any power. As a matter of fact, some of us feel more empowered than ever after what Washington has done to us over the past couple of years. There's no conspiracy. It's just a remnant of the Democrat's shellacking last November when the people went to the voting booth and told them that the statist's agenda was not acceptable.

It isn't Michigan, but here is some of the text - sm

I know what you mean about there must be more to the story. That's always my first reaction to anything dramatic or shocking.

I need to back up and say that it doesn't matter what party this Governor is from. Either could have done it. In this case it was a Republican, but it's one bad Republican Governor. It has no bearing on ALL Republican Governors. This action just made me very angry and I spoke in anger. Would I go out and PROTEST over this? Not at this point, but it did enter my mind. We'll see what comes of it.

I've looked for some kind of "more to the story" in this case. Right now I'm looking at 7 House and Senate Bills from the state web site this week. I was alerted to it by someone who serves in an agency that protects consumers from fraud, etc. They have rules to protect people, which have been put in place for good reason. Apparently, companies supporting the governor do not like those rules. That's the only thing I can think of that could have resulted in this action by the Governor.

Here's one for an example.

"Removes rulemaking authority and all rules effective July 1, 2012."

With this kind of thing being proposed, I'm not just about to give the name of the state or the Senate Bill Number. I don't want them coming after me. If they can do that, they can do anything.

I edited my message above because I spoke in anger - nm

When you stop and think about it, nobody has mentioned the state where I live and these things are happening there. How many other states are having these things put through without the people knowing about it. The only reason I know is that a friend of mine was monitoring state business and brought it to my attention.

These people cannot be trusted.

I nominate Scott Walker from Wisconsin. Recent breaking news -- Scott Walker's administration agreed to give a $6 million tax break to a corporation that may lay off nearly 2,000 Wisconsin workers. And less than a month later, the owners of that corporation gave Walker's campaign $20,000. But then there is Bob McDonnell from Virginia, Christie from New Jersey, Perry from Texas, Palin from Alaska. Yes, I realize some of these are not current governors, but it is hard to keep up. ...
