What if Governor of NJ was Boehner, Cantor, or McConnell

Posted: Oct 31, 2012

A scary thought if you live in NJ, I think.  Nice to see a Republican reaching out to work with Obama for a change.  Too bad it took a hurricane to do it.

You have it backwards. Obama won't even talk - to most Republicans.. O the divider. nm

His staffers went out and spent $5000 at Walmart on stuff, supporters picked stuff up from the stash pile as they walked in, "donated" it, shook Romney's hand as he offered them a genuine fake thank you.

I won't go so far as to call Romney an idiot but maybe the person who thought this was a good idea was one, probably the same guy who thought up the photo op Ryan soup kitchen pseudo helper.

Garbage - and not even remotely true.

My husband and I were there and no one handed us any bags of anything. We brought 2 flats of water (which the RC greatly appreciated) and both gave blood.

Below is one of many, many, MANY links proving that it's TRUE.

I hope the Atlantic coast can complete their restoration before January, because if Romney wins, he wants to privatize FEMA, meaning each resident for him/herself and probable price gouging under a president who doesn't believe in regulations.

And before you say THAT is a lie, I realize that Romney is now saying that FEMA will remain fully funded, when he previously said that privatization is the best.

How can you support a man who lies so much?

Real Presidential leadership is in the process of happening right now. President Obama seamlessly set into motion FEMA, not tolerating any red tape. Governor Chris Christie has nothing but the nicest things to say about Obama, after trashing him in the past. This is proof that Obama WANTS to work with and for everyone, regardless of party status. Everyone, even the 47% that Romney would ignore.

Also, the lying one is your magnificent Obama... you watch... his lies about Libya will show him to be the great deceiver. He has you fooled, but not me.
Obama trims 3%. Romney guts 40% - maybe more, maybe less
[ In Reply To ..]
and pits disaster victims funding against such priorities as (wait for it) tax cuts for the ubers, in a sort of warped competitive scheme that is contingent on TRUSTING the GOP to negotiate in good faith (like that's gonna happen). We all know who comes up on the losing end of that bargain.

This is a place where Romney's "I don't DO specifics" is screwing him big time. The bulk of Obama's cuts are to the disaster relief funds arm of FEMA appropriations. They are based on real-live math and reflect decreasing disaster relief end-costs from Katrina. The $6.1 million requested still provides a $500 million surplus in excess of forecast needs. His overall FEMA budget trim will also result in 3% cuts to salaries and expenses (fondly referred to by the wingers as government "waste"), with smaller cuts to emergency food and radiological emergency preparedness. Contained in his plan are the SPECIFICS of funding INCREASES for state and local programs and a significant infusion for flood insurance funding. Further cuts to disaster relief are exempt from future cuts under Obama's plan and FEMA is allowed to carry over unused funds from one year to the next. Oh, and there is NO MENTION of privatization.

Under the Ryan plan, there is no exemption for future FEMA cuts. One-third of cuts to non-defense discretionary spending in their plan goes to state and local governments to funds that include disaster relief. The only thing that plan specifies is that any FEMA funding will be subject to full offset within the discretionary levels. Let the "dialing for disaster dollars" games begin.

The vague nature of Romney's so-called "plan" paints a grimmer picture. He says he will cut federal spending to less than 20 percent of GDP by 2016 without touching entitlements or defense. Hence, the MATH tells us that non-defense discretionary spending, which includes FEMA aid, would have to be reduced by 40 percent. Again, no specifics beyond his stern declaration that disaster victims will "have what they need" (whatever THAT means). Perhaps he will send a team of volunteers prepared to line up every 30 feet and clean up their "lanes" like he did when he cleaned up that football field in high school...his interim plan on the road to privatization. God knows what THAT would look like.

First of all, he was campaigning in Florida right before Sandy hit. He wasn't planning on coming home. He hurried home FOR THE FIRST TIME IN HIS PRESIDENCY to make it look like he was a leader.

He's doing NJ with Christie for political points because Christie is republican and because there's only 5 more days until the election. He wants everyone to think that he wants to work with the other side, which is absolutely false. If he is re-elected, watch how fast he pulls away from the other side again. BTW, didn't hear him say anything good about PA, which was hit hard, too. Did you?

Mayor Bloomberg even told Obama to stay out of the city. Didn't need him making matters worse with traffic and police.

Did he rush back to the WH with all the tornadoes and floods during the summer? Nope. Did he offer to cut the red tape for those disasters? Nope. Same with the oil spill - remember that? How many days before he went down south to check everything out? Wasn't it 7 or was it 10 days?

In dire need, citizens forget politics and just want help. They trust their elected officials to come to their assistance. This is an empirical necessity and I doubt any elected official in the face of a disaster would not welcome the POTUS because of political affiliation.

However, Christie's perfect empirical and humanistic reaction may make the GOP right-wing gods very unhappy. Remember what they did to FL Gov Crist when all he did was give Obama a slight embrace in Tampa?

Certainly a different circumstance, but I'll be interested to see what kind of embrace Christie gets from the right wing down the road, that is if the right wing even has any clout down the road.

"Government does not create jobs. Government does not create jobs." --Mitt Romney, 45 minutes later (Oct. 16, 2012)

8. "My dad, as you probably know, was the governor of Michigan and was the head of a car company. But he was born in Mexico... and had he been born of, uh, Mexican parents, I'd have a better shot at winning this. But he was unfortunately born to Americans living in Mexico. He lived there for a number of years. I mean, I say that jokingly, but it would be helpful to be Latino." -Mitt Romney, in leaked comments from a Florida fundraiser, May 17 2012

9. "It's hard to know just how well [the 2012 London Olympics] will turn out. There are a few things that were disconcerting. The stories about the private security firm not having enough people, the supposed strike of the immigration and customs officials, that obviously is not something which is encouraging." --Mitt Romney, insulting Britain on the eve of the Olympics by suggesting the country is not ready, NBC News interview, July 25, 2012

Meet Maine's New GovernorMar 16, 2014
I received this in an email. I think we'll be hearing more from him... Meet Maine 's New Governor --- In case you haven't heard about this guy before, his name will stick in your mind! The new Maine Governor, Paul LePage is making New Jersey 's Chris Christie look timid. He isn't afraid to say what he thinks. Judging by the comments, every time he opens his mouth, his popularity goes up. He brought down the house at his inauguration when he shook his fist toward the med ...

Proud Of Governor Perry (sm)Jul 08, 2014
The King decided he would agree to meet with Rick Perry after all - but only on the  tarmac when his plane landed.  I believe RP said something along the lines of go to hell.  The King promised a more substantial meeting.  ...

Which Republican Governor Is The Worst?Aug 26, 2014
I nominate Scott Walker from Wisconsin. Recent breaking news -- Scott Walker's administration agreed to give a $6 million tax break to a corporation that may lay off nearly 2,000 Wisconsin workers. And less than a month later, the owners of that corporation gave Walker's campaign $20,000. But then there is Bob McDonnell from Virginia, Christie from New Jersey, Perry from Texas, Palin from Alaska. Yes, I realize some of these are not current governors, but it is hard to keep up. ...

The chance to cover nearly half of the ...

Governor Made An Executive OrderApr 23, 2016

Governor Ultrasound Sentenced To Two Years Jan 06, 2015
Next up is former GOP Connecticut Governor John Rowland, who is waiting for sentencing on 7 counts of conspiracy, falsifying records, perjury and illegal campaign contributions.  Maximum time would be 57 years. No problem. He's already served time in 2005 for corruption.      ...

Governor Mike Pence Is Either Very DumbMar 30, 2015
He refuses to state whether or not his idiotic "religious freedom law" will allow people to discriminate against gays. Of course it will. Good for all the businesses and athletes who are boycotting this law and the state. I am really getting sick of this being the "I Hate Obama" board, "no, I hate him more," "no, I REALLY hate him." If you think that's politics, it's not. It's just boring. So, anyone, what think you about this situation of governors approving laws that make it ...

Boehner Jan 26, 2012
I saw Boehner twisting his mouth all around when he accepted Gifford's letter of resignation.  Then he wiped a tear away.  He looked so pathetic, I felt for him.  Do you suppose there is still a heart beating in that Trop50 container somewhere.   ...
