The difference between Repubs and Dims (sm)
Posted: Aug 20, 2012
When a Repub goes off the rails, the other Repubs urge him to resign. When it happens to a Dem, the rest of them defend, defend, defend.

If that's how it works,....sm - JTBB

then the pubs need to "urge" Ryan to resign as well, as Ryan's views are the same as Akin's. They're just trying to get rid of this guy because he's an embarrassment, which is hilarious given these are the ideals they are actually running on. I wouldn't get too excited about it. If they can't get rid of Akin, watch them run back to support him closer to the election.
I've read a lot of ridiculous posts here, but this - one takes the cake.

"forcible rape" and "legitimate rape?" Also, what are the differences between Ryan and Akins sponsored/co-authored/supported policies concerning abortion? Ridiculous indeed.
Just taking a wild guess here, but (sm) - nm

I'd say legitimate means did it really happen. It's not brain surgery.
Then explain this...sm - JTBB

Huckabee asked him about the use of the word "legitimate" in talking about rape.
"I was talking about forcible rape, and that was absolutely the wrong word," Akin responded.
And "forcible rape" is the terminology used in the co-authored (Ryan and Akin) personhood bill.
I'm guessing if the victim isn't beat within an inch of her life it's not considered rape...so what about statutory rape? What about those victims who are drugged? What about those victims who are intimidated or just plain terrified into doing what they are told? Are these non-forcible and thereby not really rape? Or were those victims just asking for it?
How does this kind of thinking actually differ from that of the Taliban?
Isn't "forcible rape" - a bit redundant?
[ In Reply To ..]
Isn't rape, by it's very definition, forcible? It's an inarguable point.
This world is going haywire! :O
That's what I was thinking. Is there any other kind? - nm
No he doesn’t. Partial-birth abortion was not the only measure - contained in Illinois' SB 230

Then Senator Obama voted against the PERSONHOOD provision, which would have criminalized virtually ALL abortions, and the narrow language that allowed for abortion ONLY in cases where the lives of the mothers were “threatened,” thus excluding abortions performed to protect the mother’s health. That is NOT the same thing as supporting “infanticide.” Wingers really do need to stop LYING about this.
President Obama's comprehensive approach to family planning and abortion PREVENTION speaks for itelf, as does the chip, chip, chipping away approach the GOP takes, which essentially seeks to obstruct or even criminalized as many forms of contraception and birth control as possible.
"Whenever we define a pre-viable fetus as a person that is protected by the Equal Protection Clause or other elements of the Constitution, what we’re really saying is, in fact, that they are persons that are entitled to the kinds of protections that would be provided to a – a child, a 9-month-old – child that was delivered to term.
That determination then, essentially, if it was accepted by a court, would forbid abortions to take place. I mean, it – it would essentially bar abortions, because the Equal Protection Clause does not allow somebody to kill a child, and if this is a child, then this would be an anti-abortion statute. For that purpose, I think it would probably be found unconstitutional."
Obama’s support of abortion to the point of condoning infanticide could not be clearer. It is grotesque, barbaric, sick and yes, crazy. It is the radical belief of our current president of the United States.
Previable personhood for a FETUS criminalizes abortions. - Infants don't live inside the womb, dear.

They are, by definition, the product of a live birth and, therefore, cannot "infanticized" by a mythical baby-killing president.
Stop lying about Obama's vote. The point he was making was very clear, and all the drama and gross-out vocab you can conjure isn't going to change that. Face facts. Personhood bills have failed multiple times in state legislatures as have referenda votes. Passage of such bills in any states will be slapped with an injunction immediately and spend years wending their way through intermediate courts where they will be soundly rejected. You are dreaming if you think appeals years hence will result in SCOTUS overturning Roe vs Wade.
Maybe yours didn't, but mine did. - No surprise there.
I doubt that they'd be urging him to resign - if they thought he stood

a snowball's chance! Maybe telling other people what to do is just the Republican way??! :-D (kidding!!)
Out of curiosity, which Democratic example do you have in mind where one made such a mind-bending statement but then got defended, defended, defended by fellow Dems? Particularly one who made a "scientific" statement like this?

Lied about it beginning of June, resigned middle to end of June 2011. Dems were calling for his resignation even before that. Obama/White house suggested resignation middle of June.
That's a long time? In what universe?
If memory serves, posting pictures was one of the - later things he did. (sm)

This has nothing to do with Obama or democrats.
This has to do with one disgusting fool of a man who does not belong in political office.
When Rep. Weiner did his sexting thing, everyone wanted him out, INCLUDING dems.
So suck it up and admit your guy said a horrific thing.
The abortion issue does not belong here or in politics.
Besides if the republicans really wanted to get rid of it, they have been in power several times and could have done so. Why don't they? Cuz they can stir up their base by using it.
Truth is the republicans want to keep abortion legal as long as it works for them.
