The difference between the two.

Posted: Oct 14, 2009

Quite a contrast.

Bush meets the troops versus Obama meets the troops.  Might want to watch.  Heard it's trying to be removed from youtube.

but he understood "the folks," and I think he had genuine compassion and it showed. People identified with him. Saw him cry with troops families, with 9-11 families...and it was genuine. I do not get that with Obama at all. I don't think he has a clue what the folks think, nor do I think he cares. I do not see common compassion...all I see is aloof with a sense of entitlement and superiority. Exemplified with his "you are not going to get in my way" speech. Arrogance is not attractive in anyone..whether it be Barack Obama or Karl Rove.

bush's kind heart - dusty

Read a couple of books about his life and "career" and you might possibly come away with a different opinion about his compassion. Particular event that comes to mind is when he made fun of a woman on death row begging for her life.
I said he showed compassion with the troops' families... - watcher

and with the 9-11 families, and he did. This BDS lingering on long after the man has gone is just weird, dusty.

As far as books...read Obama's. His mentor was a communist. He sought the company of Marxist socialists by his own words. He ascribes to the Alinsky (rabid Marxist) method of community organizing. You seize on Bush's personality traits and just whizz right by all that? And the fact that he sat under a racist America-hating pastor for 20 years but never "heard" any of it? Called Americans bitter and clinging to guns and religion...while still professing to be a Christian himself. Yeah, he is the poster child for compassion. Especially when he arrogantly stood up in a joint session of congress on TV and told the duly elected representatives of half this country that they were not going to get in his way.

Yeah...definitely compassionate, this guy.

I am puzzled - dusty
[ In Reply To ..]
by your preoccupation and fear of people with different political philosophies other than your own. You cry marxist as if it is a virus you can catch. I bet even you could have a conversation with a communist, marxist, socialist and come away unscathed, with your original beliefs intact. To seek out other viewpoints is a positive behavior . . . how can u fully embrace your own beliefs unless you have compared them to others?

Afraid of liberals? Not hardly. You are just not that scary, NJ, and I couldn't say about cooties...have not seen you.

Afraid of Marxists? No. Want this country run by Marxists? No. Do you?
Sorry you are puzzled...I am clear. - watcher
[ In Reply To ..]
I don't fear you or them....and by the way....I embrace my beliefs and HAVE compared them to others. Plenty to compare to...Mao Tse Tung...Fidel Castro...Hugo Chavez. Che Guevara. All mass murderers. The USSR. Need I go on?

I see the philosophy. See how it works and what it always evolves into. Note to dusty...you should watch the films of Mao in action...Castro in action...don't have to talk to them. Their actions speak plenty loud.

Perhaps that is what you want for this country. I do not.

I will agree with one thing...Marxism IS a disease, that infects and destroys.
Care to show me where it has worked and has not evolved into dictatorship? Please point that out for me. The Cubans are so thrilled they set sail on inner tubes.

Perhaps you should look more at what actually has happened rather than impassioned brochures....?

What a disgusting thing to say. I can't find the place to report the message to the moderator or I would do so. I can see why the poster would not use a moniker.

keeps the post on the board. We have freedom of speech and all, but the most important thing this does is encourage the poster to continue to reveal the truth about him/herself.

it's an abhorrent term, I agree, but at least we know the heart (or absence of) of the poster, and maybe feeding this troll is a mistake.

Just a couple thoughts - jm

I posted the message above stating that calling someone retarded is like using the 'n' word.

You know, whether or not you like someone is no reason to call them names. They certainly don't like it when Obama is called a Hitler, Nazi, etc, and they sure would not like it if he was called the "n" word. They'd fly off the handle and have a fit. But because they don't like Bush they think calling him "retarded" is cute. I find it repulsive. My nephew is special needs and if anyone called him retarded they would have me to answer to.

Also, Bush was by far anything but stupid. He graduated from Yale with a Bachelor of Arts degree and he also attended and graduated from Harvard Business School where he got an MBA. Which in case nobody knows this he is the only president ever to have an MBA. (I'd say that's more than being a community organizer). He also was a pilot in the National Guard. He was also a successful Governor of Texas before he became President. Sorry but I don't know of many "retarded" people who become pilots, graduate with multiple degrees, and become governor of a state.

I may not have agreed with everything he did as President, but he was the President. A little decency on people's part would serve them well. And unless they will be okay with people calling Obama the "N" word they need to stop with calling Bush "retarded".

It's offensive no matter what way you use it.

I do hope the moderator will take down the repulsive statement made by someone who doesn't even have the guts to put a name on the moniker. Not that it would make a difference. At least the moderator knows who it is.
Talking about "them" - NJ
[ In Reply To ..]
I'm not sure I can agree that "they" (the poster who used "retarded" and people like him/her) would have any problem with people using the "n" word. People like that aren't very socially conscious.

As to Bush being smart...I have to disagree. He was a mediocre student who probably got into Yale because his dad was an alum. I forget the word for that...colleges making room for alums' kids. Someone help me out here?

Anyway, Bush Jr's record in the reserves has disappeared. There are strong suspicions that he did not fulfill his obligations. Yes, he went to pilot school, but he might have gotten bored during his time in the reserves and just left. Somehow the records were not found once this started to be questioned.

His record as governor of Texas wasn't so stellar, either. Rove may have engineered his election, including a homophobic rumor started about his opponent. He proclaimed a "Jesus Day" which socially conservative people might like. The rest of us aren't impressed with the lack of separation of church and state. Part of his legacy for Texas is presiding over 152 executions, more than any other governor in recent history, and some with the question of guilt in doubt. And there's always the one that he made fun of publicly. No class there at all.

I won't call Bush the "r" word. I don't use it. Neither will I ever call him smart or compassionate. Conservative yes. Compassionate conservative, no way.

I don't totally agree with you, but fair enough - jm

Since nothing ever came out that he got into the school by his father's tailcoat (think that's the word you were looking for), I will agree that maybe he did get in that way, however, he is the one who graduated and earned the degrees.

Also, I understand that the people who reported on him not fulling his obligations in the service knowingly lied about what they reported and the last I knew they were being investigated or sued for it, but I can't find that right now. That is what I heard on the news a few weeks ago and would have to do more research on it before I could say one way or another. However, Bush was a pilot. He flew. I don't think a lot of people who know how to fly helicopters/air crafts are dummies.

I agree with you that I don't think he is a compassionate man. I've heard he did things to animals when he was in school and that turns my stomach.

I think he got in over his head as president. I don't think he understood a lot and as all presidents go they just do what they are told to do.

I don't agree with half the stuff he did as president, but I think maybe half of what he did was okay, it was towards the end of his 2nd term it started going bad.

I would bet... - cj

Wonderful how the community came together - people of alll races, political persuasions, etc.  After Ferguson, etc., it was the most amazing display I think I've seen of this type in a pretty long lifetime.
