The Republican party left me this week

Posted: Mar 5, 2011

I had been so hopeful that our country could stop fighting and get things done, but the actions of the Republican party this week convinces me that's not going to happen. I'm very discouraged and disappointed. I don't want to be a Democrat either, but the Republicans' actions are pushing me that direction.

Independents, do you feel left out if you aren't connected to one of the large parties? Maybe that's what I want to do. I'm also thinking, after this week's disgusting behavior of Governors in several states, that maybe our country would be better off with only one party, and then maybe we could stop fighting.

;

The many generations before didn't give up and we/nm - owe it to our kids not to give up.

Wow. What a touching sentiment. - sm

She is not giving up, she is getting out, along with other GOP governors, lawmakers and constituents who have the backbone to stand up and say they want nothing to do with Walkers tactics and agendas.

She is experiencing the same disillusionment that some progressives are feeling about Obama, who they believe has gone way too far toward the center. I think the frustration she is expressing is something we can ALL understand, regardless which side of the aisle we are coming from.

i agree. the party system, the electoral college, - all of it is a joke. gonna sit out 2012.

No, sitting out is letting someone else make decisions for you. - nm

One party? You ARE kidding, right? - I am an Independent

and NO, I do not feel left out and connected to one of the large parties is the LAST thing I want to be.

I do not agree with you regarding disgusting behavior on the part of the governors trying to keep their states from going bankrupt like the country is about to do....and the Republicans in DC are the ONLY ones who seemed to listen to we Independents in the midterms when we said stop treating us like we are stupid and telling us that what we want doesn't matter...which is exactly what the Democrats did going into the midterms and why they got shellacked, to use Obama's term.

And the Democrats STILL don't get it, they somehow think that the redder the ink gets, the more you should spend, and that makes NO sense in ANY context I can think of. We are in such a mess now that we have to STOP the hemorrhaging and cut back on what is going out until we get back in financial shape.

The Democratic party left the COUNTRY a long time ago, as far as I am concerned. The Republicans were given a shot from the midterms, and so far at least they are talking and acting like they understood us. The Democrats...no. We said STOP pointing fingers at each other and get this debt under control and STOP spending. The Democrats have done neither of those.

Excellent response - Independent too

I actually feel more connected with politics because I don't belong to any party. I don't have blinders on and what a difference that makes.

And to also add to the OPs message the country would not be a better place with one party. That is not what this country was founded on. And then if you are going to pick one party, which one? We need a two party system.

And I also agree with your statements about the democrats not getting it. They left so long ago. They stopped caring about the people many years ago.

but the Republicans are the business owners who sent our jobs overseas - and I am not happy with them

[ In Reply To ..]
I hold it against the Republicans that our jobs went overseas. Actually, to be fair, both parties did that but there are more corporate executives in the Republican party, so I resent them more.

However, I also believe that we all need to start getting together and stop blaming each other so we can solve the many problems our country has.

The Tea Party (disgusting And Full Of Vitrole And Hatred) Are Not The Republican Party HopefullyApr 17, 2011
I hope with everything I have in me that the Tea Party does not represent the Republican Party. This is what the Tea Party stands for. They are full of vitriole and hatred. This is not what the Republican party stands for. At a campaign event in South Carolina on Thursday, Republican presidential candidate Jeb Bush was asked how he planned to include black people in his campaign and get them to vote for him. Bush responded, “Our message is one of hope and aspiration.” But he didn’t stop there. He continued: “It isn’t one of division and get in line and we’ll take care of you with free stuff. Our message is one that is uplifting — that says you can achieve earned success.” There it is! If you ...

What The New Republican Party Can't UnderstandOct 30, 2015
I was talking to a Republican this week who, to paraphrase him, said that the Republicans have offered the country what it wants, a woman presidental candidate and one of color.  NO!  That is not what we want. We want candidates who are intelligent and capable. What you've offered us is incompetence and labels. It isn't important to have a woman president unless she knows the issues, as Hillary Clinton does. It most certainly doesn't help to have a person of color unles ...

We Have To Stop Calling The Republican PartySep 24, 2012
a political party...they're not. They're a cult. Facts and reality do not matter to these people. Paul Ryan has been running a not-so-secret shadow campaign for Hillary Clinton.
