The base of the Republican party

Posted: Sep 28, 2015

At a campaign event in South Carolina on Thursday, Republican presidential candidate Jeb Bush was asked how he planned to include black people in his campaign and get them to vote for him. Bush responded, “Our message is one of hope and aspiration.” But he didn’t stop there. He continued: “It isn’t one of division and get in line and we’ll take care of you with free stuff. Our message is one that is uplifting — that says you can achieve earned success.” There it is! If you let people talk long enough, the true self will always be revealed. Not only is there a supreme irony in this racial condescension that casts black people, whose free labor helped establish the prosperity of this country and who were systematically excluded from the full benefits of that prosperity for generations, as leeches only desirous of “free stuff,” this line of reasoning also infantilizes black thought and consciousness and presents an I-know-best-what-ails-you paternalism about black progress. http://www.nytimes.com/2015/09/28/opinion/charles-m-blow-jeb-bush-free-stuff-and-black-folks.html?_r=1 “We affirm that we cherish our religious freedom and are profoundly respectful of religious traditions. But we also have to say clearly that our religious freedom doesn’t grant us the freedom to deny our fellow Americans their constitutional rights.” “And that even as we are respectful and accommodating genuine concerns and interests of religious institutions, we need to reject politicians who are supporting new forms of discrimination as a way to scare up votes. That’s not how we move America forward.” Ouch. Those words could have come right out of the mouth of Thomas Jefferson, who said, that “our civil rights have no dependence on our religious opinions,” and they were aimed right at the heart of the Republican message for 2016. There is not a candidate among them who does embrace discrimination in the name of religion. http://www.politicususa.com/2015/09/28/president-obama-truth-bombs-republican-claims-religious-freedom.html;

How do you explain the political promises that - Democrats make to black voters?

[ In Reply To ..]
...or haven't you been paying attention?

Land sakes, if there's any paternalism-we-know-what-you-need in this country, it can be found saturating - and ruining - the Democrat-dominated black voting wards of this country. It's been a national crime committed against blacks by the Democrats, deliberately binding them with the chains of economic dependency through reliance on government handouts.

Bush said it right. I'm sorry you don't like it, but if you REALLY care about the disadvantaged in this country you'd better start paying attention and doing some serious thinking about who - and what - you vote for.

Explanation - Republican fiction fed and - re-fed to the masses of Republicans

Facts: Of the 55 men who drafted the constitution, 52 considered themselves to be evangelical Christians.

TJ read the Koran during the Barbary pirate times and thought Muslims were dangerous.

When our founding fathers decided to organize our government, they did it based upon Biblical principles.

At the time, Russia had a czar and Britain had a king. Because of the excesses of absolute monarchs, our founding fathers knew no single individual was competent to rule a country.

Therefore, they operated upon two premises: "There is none righteous, no not one" (Romans 3:10) and "For all have sinned, and fall short of the glory of God" (Romans 3:23).

That is why we have three opposing branches of government: each is supposed to keep the other two in line.

It is absolutely irrelevant what any individual believed or did not believe. It matters not that TJ may, or may not, have owned slaves. It matters not that Grant was an alcoholic. It matters not that Kennedy was a whoremonger and drug abuser. The nation is more than an individual.

America's greatness has always been because of Judeo-Christian principles, and without her Christian moorings, she will not survive the coming storm.

Well, he is a Republican candidate for president - that oddly, bets are that he will be nominee

I don't, frankly, understand that, but I have an eery feeling that it may still be true.

So, many still listen to the driveol he spouts out of thought that he might be a candidate to deal with. What is he, fourth?

There should be a Bush/Clinton ticket. They are each - their parties favs, even though the base

Where do you get the highly erroneous notion that 52 of the 55 men who drafted the Constitution were evangelical Christians? This seems to stem from a video from some guy named David Barton, who is an evangelical Christian and conservative political activist. He has been criticized by many, including fellow Christian conservatives, for his revisionist version of US history and claims that are not supported by fact. In the past, his publisher withdrew copies of his book "The Jefferson Lies" from publication because of nonfactual claims in the book. I wish people would stop posting outright lies as "fact."

Gosh, it's like we've never had a black president or anything. Still stuck in 1860. - This is the same kind of speech

he gives to Latinos. Pandering.

It was the Muslims that captured the slaves and sold them. - How come that's never mentioned? Why

[ In Reply To ..]
aren't they asked about that?

Good question. Not part of an agenda I suppose. - NM

What The New Republican Party Can't UnderstandOct 30, 2015
I was talking to a Republican this week who, to paraphrase him, said that the Republicans have offered the country what it wants, a woman presidental candidate and one of color.  NO!  That is not what we want. We want candidates who are intelligent and capable. What you've offered us is incompetence and labels. It isn't important to have a woman president unless she knows the issues, as Hillary Clinton does. It most certainly doesn't help to have a person of color unles ...

The Republican Party Left Me This WeekMar 05, 2011

Chicago Mayor Is Finding Out The Hard Way That The Democratic Base IsFeb 25, 2015
The liberal wing of the Democratic Party can be susceptible to the “moral victory” fallacy, which in its most degraded form considers a righteous loser preferable to a compromised winner. All the same, it’s hard not to interpret Chicago Mayor Rahm Emanuel’s Pyrrhic victory on Tuesday as a major win for the party’s economically populist wing. After all, this is Chicago we’re talking about; incumbent mayors expect to be coronated, not subjected to the indignity ...
