I too believe that many African Americans have twisted what Dr. MLK stood for. He certainly wouldn't stand for what is going on today.

I also find it interesting that in all the slavery talk 2 things are NEVER mentioned. 1....the fact that their own people sold them into slavery. 2.....the many white men who gave their lives to free them from slavery.

It was a republican president who freed the slaves. Southern democrats were the slave owners. Now in a crude sense, many blacks are still slaves to the democrats. The democrats dangle promises in front of them and they vote for them. I once heard someone in an interview say something like...democrats don't love black people...they love poor black people. And that is essentially true.

I know I'm probably going to be attacked for saying this. I'm sure many will disagree with me. I just think that sometimes black people look for racism that isn't there. Don't get me wrong...I know racism is out there and many horrible things have happend in regards to racism, but when I see a black person walking down the sidewalk, I move over...not because they are black and I don't want to be near them...but because I think it is polite to move over and not bump into them. I was trying to be polite and they took it as racist.

Slavery was horrible. It should NOT have happened but it did. Did my ancestors have slaves? I really don't know. Do I have slaves? No. Has anyone alive today been a slave? No. We can learn from the past but it is time to move forward and it seems to me that many don't want to move forward. Some will never forgive white people today for something we personally had no control over in the past.

My personal opinion. Can't wait to get responses from some of you calling me racist because I'm 95% sure that is gonna happen. ;)

Also, I'm curious as to where African Americans would be today if their ancestors were sold and brought over here. Would today's African Americans' lives have been better had their ancestors stayed in Africa and they were instead just Africans? Just a thought.

thoughts/emotions about all of this, I don't really know where I fall. I do think we should think about poor/not poor, underprivileged/privileged when we think about these things. Yes, opportunity has become more equal in past years, but not always so. Quality of education also comes into play. We see today "poor schools" and "privileged schools". Poor school districts are not afforded the same tools for learning as rich schools. We see this today. Parenting also comes into play. When you have uneducated parents, grandparents, etc., it becomes much harder to climb out of poverty without support. It's generational.

My experience with racism is in the other direction When my daughter was in high school, she was bullied by black girls because she was blonde and blue eyed and the black boys liked her. It got so bad that I had to pull her out of school. No one in authority in that school would help the situation. I have been blatantly ignored by neighbors when saying hello, I have been treated rudely by store personnel IMO because I am white. It also seems to be the younger generations who are this way. As you can see, I am conflicted. I do know that racism is alive and well in this country though, and people are prejudged from both sides of it.

What I always wondered is, since the Africans sold their own people into slavery which started this whole ball rolling, why are Africans never called on to make reparations to the ancestors of slaves? I never owned a slave. I am part Indian, but never get any consideration for what my family/ancestors suffered...How is that fair?
