could tell me why the press never mentions "Obama's war" deaths.  When Bush was president, they told us everyday.  Now that this is Obama's war, there's nary a mention of July being the DEADLIEST month for our troops.  Why is that?  Obama's WH leaks and puts all our servicepeople in danger, and he's out on the campaign trail.  Go ahead, tell me he is not trying to destroy our country.

But why don't we hear the tally everyday anymore? - Is it not news? Or the media is dead?

Where do you get your news? I do hear a tally on the - news every day when there are deaths. nm

Maybe its a continuation of W's policy of forbidding - press photos of body bags

[ In Reply To ..]
Forbidding photos was not the only way he kept dead soldiers out of the picture. W used quite an impressive lexicon of disembodied war rhetoric, designed to place fatalities in the abstract. I guess he and Darth never did give up clinging to the hope they could still engineer a "candy and flowers" photo op.

"Collateral damage" is a convenient way to refer to scores of civilians killed in not-so-surgical strikes Other scriptors that come to mind are targets, or talking about the "outcome" of using certain types of weaponry (while boasting of their efficient effect), losses, and the like. Another clever way of covering up the more visceral aspects of war is the minimizing ruse of discounting hundreds, and sometimes thousands of dead bodies that cannot be "independently verified."

Fatalities and casualties stats from the other side dubbed enemy "propaganda" are summarily dismissed, thus assigning a much higher value on the lives of US soldiers than, for example, Moslem children or those whose parents are Taliban. Carry this thinking a bit further and we can conclude that "our" lives are worth defending, but "theirs" are not, thus creating an airtight case used to justify future wars.

The culture of dehumanizaton is certainly nothing new. BTW, hadn't you heard? After more than 10 years, Afghanistan has become the forgotten war that rarely gets mentioned in broadcast media....or should I say CORPORATE media? You will not find these reports on Fox any more often than you will on CNN, MSNBC or in MSM. It has little to do with Obama, or W for that matter. He was just following in the footsteps of those who came before in this regard.

The reality is it's all about the ratings game. They don't report it because we don't want to hear it. It's not sensational enough to even sell a box of Pampers, is it? Instead, we have stories like Rev Wright, Moslem witch hunts and the birther issue to fit that bill.

Nonetheless, in terms of partisan proclivities, we do have one side that hawks up the election cycles, cries foul over Pentagon budget cuts, prognosticates gloomy doomy Armageddon at the mere mention of diplomacy, cheerfully demands overflowing war chests, then promptly turns their backs on the "outcomes" of such policies, in much the same way they handle the abortion issue.

I hear it all the time on NPR - nm

Question (sm) - Curious

[ In Reply To ..]
I'm curious. Whoever checked the dislike box for the above post, why? Is it the record number of deaths you dislike, or the fact that the media doesn't report on them anymore, like they mean nothing? Or that the leaks come from the WH and are glossed over by the media? Which part exactly do you dislike?

My guess would be probably the fact that someone is - bringing it up.

[ In Reply To ..]
I think now adays people can't take the like/dislike seriously. The only thing most of them are upset about is the fact that anyone is bringing this up. It's much easier (and fun for them) to talk about and kick down republicans, but when the failure of a democrat politician, no matter who it is, is brought up they get defensive as though everyone is just supposed to ignore it.

I could have sworn cons ruled likes and dislikes - questions off limits

I don't recall it being labeled "Bush's war" deaths - bootstraps

[ In Reply To ..]
although he did start the war and he deserves the credit.

I don't get how you can say it's Obama's war.

I don't know what you qualify as knowledgeable, but I do know, which I thought was common knowledge that:

Bush waged a war based on false/no intelligence by his administration.

Osama bin Laden, the party responsible for the terrorist attack on World Trade Towers, was put to rest during the Obama administration. Bush said he could care less where he was.

I don't think Obama is trying to destroy our country. Bush wasn't trying to either, but he just about did (not to mention all the blood on his hands)... after all, a Republican administration isn't complete unless there's a war.

Sure Obama is campaigning. EVERY incumbent campaigns. George Bush campaigned.

But you remember where Bush was on 9/11. He was reading to school children. Isn't that a VP or first lady duty? But no, the VP was in the White House....the same guy who was probably the only one who came out on top as a result of the war. His company raked in the contracts. And no doubt he was big influence on Bush to invade Iran.

I think it was Keith Olberman who religiously gave the number at the end of each broadcast.

Some Liberal Thoughts Oct 25, 2009
If a conservative doesn’t like a news organization or a talk show host, he goes on multiple chat boards and blogs and does everything he can to discredit them. Liberals just don't invite them in.  If a conservative decides he needs health care coverage, it is after he has taken advantage of the system by not carrying it; making payments to healthcare providers who are not in the business of lending money, and sometimes he has filed bankruptcy.  A liberal recognizes that eve ...

A Day In The Life Of A LiberalJul 25, 2012
Your day as a liberal begins at the crack of dawn with early morning yoga followed by a quick bite of dried seaweed breakfast before hitting the road to attend your latest "peaceful demonstration." On your way home, you're sure to stop and hug a few trees before jumping back on your 100% smog-free bicycle (complete with the "I break from beached whales" sticker). Good article.  What is it? a fad with them?  Is it the "in thing" for the multimillionaires to say they are not rich?  I know its election time and they want to con the Americans into thinking they are just like us, but let them come and live our lives of struggling day to day figuring out which bill we are not going to pay this month so we can pay a different bill.  Let them live in a 1 bedroom apartment with barely enough monety to eat and nothing else and then see what po ...

Understanding Liberal Jan 18, 2017
1.  It's not all about Trump per se.  Trump is the "face" of liberal rage and bewilderment over something much larger - namely, the nearly nationwide rejection of radical liberalism that they've experienced over the last several election cycles (Obama's reelection notwithstanding). In state after state, the radical left has lost ground. 2.  In the context of #1, one critical consequence of this rejection is that they have lost the opportunity to tilt the Supreme Co ...

Two Huge Liberal Inconsistencies.Jun 14, 2016

Liberal Democrats Livid Over CompromiseDec 07, 2010
President Obama may have struck a compromise with congressional Republicans on tax cuts Monday, but he now has another group to worry about -- liberal Democrats in the House and Senate who are livid over the deal that they say betrays their most cherished values. "How can we rationalize tax cuts for the wealthiest Americans when were facing this kind of a deficit?" Sen. Richard Durbin (D-Ill.) said in an interview with NPR Monday night.
