Speaker Boehner chooses the moderate pub Ripon Society to say he believes this administration

Posted: Jan 24, 2013

It was on camera, so he wasn't speaking for their reaction so much as far beyond. Good thing.

It's hardly secret that Obama is hoping to fracture the recalcitrant GOP base in the House that's devoted to obstructing absolutely anything and everything he attempts, but pure nonsense that he doesn't hope this will free the rest of the GOP House to get back to work. If he succeeds, he'll be their hero.

Here's Wikipedia's take on the Ripon Society:

"The Ripon Society[pronunciation?] is an American centrist Republican think tankbased in Washington, D.C. They produce The Ripon Forum, the Nation's longest running Republican thought and opinion journal.

The Ripon Society was the first major Republican organization to support passage of the Civil Rights Act in the 1960s. In the early 1970s, it called for the normalization of relations with China, and the abolition of the military draft."

I like this paragraph in their history section: - RC

" "We believe that the future of our party lies not in extremism, but in moderation. The moderate course offers the Republican Party the best chance to build a durable majority position in American politics. This is the direction the party must take if it is to win the confidence of the “new Americans” who are not at home in the politics of another generation: the new middle classes of the suburbs of the North and West – who have left the Democratic cities but have not yet found a home in the Republican party; the young college graduates and professional men and women of our great university centers – more concerned with “opportunity” than “security”, the moderate of the new South – who represent the hope for peaceful racial adjustment and who are insulted by a racist appeal more fitting another generation. These and others like them hold the key to the future of our politics."

Hmmn. Goodness knows pubs who find both "the base" and Dems - unacceptable need a home of their own.nm

Tea Party is what is causing all the trouble, and I don't understand why the majority of the Republicans give any deference to those whacky Tea Partiers, who are comprised of the top 2% and the fools that support them, believing that the Tea Partiers really care about the other 98%.
Agree, but this conservative group seems to be - quite reasonable at least. It should be noted,

of course, that it's also pretty centrist.

We have a neighbor who's a very strong economic conservative, pretty libertarian, but he's also very honest in his reasons for what he believes, and they have nothing to do with the joy of villianizing and hurling mud. He doesn't. He wants what amounts to survival of the fittest, with virtually no government assistance, but there is no pretense that that will somehow abolish poverty, take us back to the days of Leave It to Beaver, etc.

Given his honesty, both about his views and ours, I can't say he's not reasonable, even if we agree with him on almost nothing.

It's Boehner's party that is against "the hope - a dem2

racial adjustment." They've done everything they can think of to make sure that black voters were disenfranchised -- he and that goofball from Florida -- and they have absolute contempt, not only for the black but also for lower-middle class Americans.

The Republicans are already working on how to further block their vote for 2016. And they make no secret of the fact they are doing this. I find them contemptuous, greedy Americans, certainly not the spirit with which this country was created.

Umhm. That's a big reason that only about 30% of cons - still call themselves Republican. nm

he and his party have no plans to give Obama anything he wants. In other words, the next four years will be as unproductive as the first four have been.

Obama wants to move this country ahead, while the Cons want to go back to the dark ages. I hope he uses his "executive orders" as much as he can because that will be the only way he can get anything done.

Meanwhile, what used to be "moderate" Republicans seem to have jumped on the Tea Party bandwagon.

It humors me to hear how people support the "Tea Party," considering they're part of the upper 2% in this country and couldn't care less about the poor people who vote for them. It's actually comical how some people can be so blind.

I wonder when/if they'll ever wake up.

Gee, I think you better wake up the Senate and the Demorats - Yep. Someone called them that by accident but I li

If you can say Cons, i can say Rats. Tit for tat, don't you know.

Back to the subject...I think the Senate is waking up to the fact that people see who obstructed and they have now realized that the Senate rats obstructed the House for the past 4 years in the area of the economy and jobs bills (Reid tabled all of them), then not passing a budget. So they're finally going to pretend to offer a budget.

Contrary to how some in the GOP like to style him, General Powell is a conservative, but despite all the honors and respect he has earned he has the usual non-white conservative's problem with acceptance by today's GOP. He's not leaving, though. Like most of us, he understands that the GOP must change if it is to survive as a major voice in American politics. This ...

Boehner Is Still House SpeakerJan 06, 2015
Watching the "opening" ceremonies. Boehner looks ill, irritated, like he might cry (that's sort of normal), but he doesn't look right. I guess he might just be irritated with Pelosi.
