Social JUSTICE is *not* the same as SOCIALISM

Posted: Mar 13, 2010

The Beckster and his $upporter$ are desparately trying to equate the two in an attempt to have people reject the concept of social justice.

He'll be successful to some degree; fortunately the vast majority of Americans know a skunk when they smell one.  or is that a FOX? lol

Wow, you sure are obsessed with Beck. nm - kitty

This is Rev. Jim Wallis taking issue with Beck and goes directly to your point. And, yes, it's HUFFINGTON POST showing a video of the Reverend in his interview by Lawrence O'Donnell. For those of you who are soooooooooo offended by the Huffington Post and routinely offer only kneejerk criticism of the site while ignoring the subject matter at hand, I suggest that you exercise your freedom and refrain from opening this link. This is a video, and it speaks for itself.

"Investors Business Daily has been running a superb series of editorials on Barack Obama. The paper continues its insightful series by examining the ties between Barack Obama and Jim Wallis:

Like Wright and Obama, Wallis believes that biblical faith compels radical social action. Their political ministry is called the "social gospel," but it's really just socialism dressed up in a cheap tunic. They refuse to separate personal faith from political activism, whether at home or abroad.

In the '80s, for example, Wallis and Wright rallied to the cause of the communist regime in Nicaragua, and protested the U.S. arming of the Contra rebels. Wallis, in fact, marshaled thousands of "Witnesses for Peace" and joined them in Nicaragua, making it known they were willing to take a bullet to stop the anti-communist insurgency.

Wallis is more eloquent than Wright, but he preaches the same anti-American message. According to discoverthenetworks.org, he once called the U.S. "the great power, the great seducer, the great captor and destroyer of human life, the great master of humanity and history in its totalitarian claims and designs."

Like Obama, Wallis got his start in Chicago, where he too was involved in community organizing. He forged ties with black gang leaders, including at least one known cop-killer. [....]

Wallis agrees with Obama that American racism and capitalism are to blame for inner-city poverty, and echoes his oft-repeated call for "economic justice." They share a spread-the-wealth vision, including subsidizing the working poor beyond expanded tax credits and minimum-wage hikes. [....]

Wallis may couch his Bolshevist views today. But in 1979, he was quoted in the journal "Mission Tracks" saying he hoped that "more Christians will come to view the world through Marxist eyes." [....]

Wallis says Obama is the kind of leader he's been searching for, one who's "responsive to social movements." "Barack Obama talks about 'being our brother's keeper' and how he finds a faith that does justice to be compelling to him," he said in a recent interview.

Americans should ask themselves why Barack Obama seeks out "religious" leaders who are more radical than religious and who share a disdainful attitude towards America. Why does Barack Obama look to these people for guidance and succor? Or is he looking to them for something more radical?"

Socialism is inextricably intertwined with the ideals - of social justice.

Indeed, it's impossible to imagine a socialist who doesn't base his arguments on such principles.

This, for instance, from Wikipedia:

"Social justice is also a concept that some use to describe the movement towards a socially just world. In this context, social justice is based on the concepts of human rights and equality and involves a greater degree of economic egalitarianism through progressive taxation, income redistribution, or even property redistribution, policies aimed toward achieving that which developmental economists refer to as more equality of opportunity and equality of outcome than may currently exist in some societies or are available to some classes in a given society."

Please note "income redistribution" and "property redistribution" by governmental fiat. This idea cannot be found anywhere in the teachings of Jesus, who rarely commented at all about the role of government in society, with the only notable exception being His instruction that Jews should pay their taxes and support the church.

When asked if they (the Jews) should pay Caesar's tax, Jesus asked for a coin, and then asked whose image was on the coin. "Caesar's image", came the reply. Jesus then said "Render unto Caesar that which is Caesar's, and unto God that which is God's".

This is a very interesting and enigmatic teaching, leaving open the question of what really does belong to Caesar, and what belongs to God. For the Jew, everything belonged to, and came from the hand of, God. The tithe, for instance, was not "giving", but "giving BACK" a tenth of what God had given you.

Jesus was no muddle-headed fool to rely on "society" (defined in governmental terms) to address the problems of poverty, for instance. He advocated no scheme of taxation or redistribution by fiat. He laid no legal claim on the property of the wealthy for the benefit of the poor. He Himself never waved His hand to solve the problem of "inequality" or to eliminate poverty in society. He never banished illness or arranged for the poor around him to have access to physicians. Presumably, He could have done so.

The claims of Jesus with respect to the poor, the unfortunate, the suffering were claims based on personal compassion and individual (not collective) action. He did not instruct that Christians should "form institutions of social justice", but that each follower should love others as he loves himself.

Social justice had already been tried, in fact, when Jesus arrived on the scene to declare a New Covenant. The Old Covenant was filled with commands addressed to the Jewish society as a whole. For instance, there were commandments about how society was to deal with widows and orphans. There was to be a semi-centennial "Jubilee" year in which all debts were forgiven. Prisoners were released, and any land sold to pay a previous debt reverted to the original owner. Socialism on a grand scale!

The problem was, it didn't work and a New Covenant between God and man - one based on a change in the individual human heart rather than on the demands of the law - was the core of Jesus' ministry. In this way, and not because of or by means of law, would the concerns of God for mankind be addressed.

Well, then. Maybe that makes socialists latter day - prophets of Father, Son and Holy Spirit...

Justice appears 1060 times in the Christian Bible. A few examples where social justice is addressed and promoted are:

Isaiah 61:8
Deuteronomy 16:19-20
Micah 6:8
Matthew 5:6
Amos 5:24
Luke 18:7-8
Matthew 23:23
Luke 16:19-31
Matthew 20:25-26
Matthew 23:37-39
Luke 5:27-32

Glenn Beck Urges Listeners To Leave Churches That Preach Social JusticeMar 09, 2010
Beck is going to end up hanging himself. On his daily radio and television shows last week, Fox News personality Glenn Beck set out to convince his audience that "social justice," the term many Christian churches use to describe their efforts to address poverty and human rights, is a "code word" for communism and Nazism. Beck urged Christians to discuss the term with their priests and to leave their churches if leaders would not reconsider their emphasis on social justice."I'm begging you, y ...

This post was written in response to the Washington Post On Faith question of the week which they titled: "Wallis vs. Beck: The politics of social justice," Asking, "How does the pursuit of justice fit into your faith? Is 'social justice' an ideology or a theology?" I'm glad for the discussion, but "Wallis vs. Beck" really isn't the point. Over several weeks, Glenn Beck has attacked the term and concept of "social justice"; likened it to Marxism, Communism, and Nazism; told ...

Justice? I Am Thinking NotApr 29, 2013
Sitting here on the pity pot.  Just found out that the neighbor that burned our apartment building to the ground bought a house and recently a $30,000 hour.  This occurred AFTER the insurance company said he had no income to go after.  Here I sit still struggling and he is living life to the fullest.  I am still struggling to pay for the necessities.  Makes me boiling mad.  He has never apologized at any time for the chaos/damage he caused.  Don't believe ...

Nice story on Fox News Atlanta today. "A judge sentenced two people to prison Monday for their involvement in a confrontation at a child's birthday party that involved weapons and the Confederate flag." Nothing sweeter than the tears of racist rednecks getting their comeuppance for their act of terrorism against their fellow citizens. Story: http://www.fox5atlanta ...

It goes for all who have used the legal system to get off Scot free. Even Blogovitch from Illinois seems to think he did nothing wrong and wants them to release him. Glad I don't live in that state.
