Shep Smith apologizes for lack of balance in Fox news report.

Posted: Oct 28, 2009

Before I get blasted for posting something from Huffington Post, it's a video clip from his show, in his own words.

If my posts bring you such anger, I'd suggest that you maybe not read them any more.

As far as my political affiliation, it is NOT Democratic, so please stop making assumptions about me personally that you know nothing about.
Meh - NJ

The reading and critical thinking skills to be an MT seem to be sadly lacking by some. They see your name and assume. Probably don't even read the post.

No worries. A lot of the rest of us appreciate your presentation of information.

Thanks very much, NJ. (sm) - Nikki

I've tried to challenge this person in the past to provide links to the incredibly outlandish comments he/she made, but I never get a response.

Sometimes this person scares me a little because of the vitriolic nature of his/her posts, to the point where the only thing missing is a giant HISS coming through my headphones. It must take a lot of energy to hate so wholeheartedly and intensely, and I truly feel sorry for him/her. I will keep this person in my prayers and hope he/she finds a less hateful heart and to be kind to others who don't share his/her opinion.

I appreciate your coming to my defense. I guess if they're targeting me, maybe they're leaving someone else alone, and that's okay by me. LOL.

Hope you have a great day!
What a joke......you are funny! HA HA - Nikki and NJ are the ones that need prayed for!..n

I challenge you to come up with a post where I was "complaining about religion a few days ago."

There isn't any because I didn't. If you want to constantly harass me, that's fine, but at least be honest when you do.

I'll also pray for God to give you an honest heart and mind. I really do pity you.

But now that YOU mention it, I do agree with that statement. To be tolerant of other religions is the right thing to do. To twist that statement into an anti-Christian sentiment is pure hogwash. There is a time and a place for everything. To believe in separation of church and state is to respect ALL religions (or none at all).

I wouldn't want my third-grade daughter to be degraded and picked on (much as is seen on this board) simply because her religion might be different from other kids in the school.

If you want a Christian school, there are plenty of them out there, so choose one. To force your particular brand of Christianity on innocent children will only create a bullying system (that is often seen on this board, as well).

LOL! Apparently so, since her own post (sm) - Nikki
[ In Reply To ..]
showed clearly who posted it, and it wasn't me. Still, she decided to blame it on me. I wouldn't post too many kind, reasonable posts to me if I were you. It might make my "fan club" even more angry, and they might start to pick on you solely for the reason that you agree with some of my posts. I'd hate to see that happen to someone else...again.

You must not follow Nikki that closely - Colleen

[ In Reply To ..]
She is very reasonable and, btw, far more likely to give credit for a good point from the "other side" than many on this board. Looks to me like the slamming here is coming from you.

I understand that. This is precisely why I posted it to begin with. - Nikki

[ In Reply To ..]
Trying to be fair and balanced, unlike the responses I've received.

What is the point here; I guess maybe that the other news would not apologize for only showing one s - Good for FOX news!!

nm

Thank you. That was the point I was trying to make. (sm) - Nikki

I've always thought that Shep Smith was the fairest person on Fox. I remember his reporting from LA during Katrina, how he cared about the people there.

I was trying to give him credit for what he said in this interview but was attacked simply because I used a Huffington Post article that contained a VIDEO of him IN HIS OWN WORDS and am then told the source isn't credible.

If there's one person I respect on Fox, it's Shep Smith.

That's cause he's a DEM.........DUH! - nm

Too little, too late. - me

[ In Reply To ..]
Just goes to show Fox knows $$ will be lost over their slanted, biased, false 'news' coverage eventually.

So they trot out ONE person to say 'sorry' for behing unbalanced. Not enough.

Go back to the drawing board, Fox. Either report without distorting and CENSORING (this they have in common with other media they just do it the best) or ADMIT you are just there to babysit and entertain.

I don't think that's what it was. (sm) - Nikki

[ In Reply To ..]
I think it was Shep Smith honestly speaking his mind. And I think that's a good thing. From what I've seen of Shep, I don't think he "trots" too easily. LOL.

Well I see it a different way - me

[ In Reply To ..]
He's the token 'honest' voice on Fox - they are after all business - and they can point to him to show some balance - LOL.

We agree a lot of the time, but I just see the media (all of it) for what it is - Fox just happens to be the worst of the lot.
You may be absolutely right. (sm) - Nikki
[ In Reply To ..]
Shep Smith is really the only one I can stand on Fox. I find him to be honest and objective. As I said previously, I saw his coverage of Katrina, and he really cared about the people instead of the politics. I can't say I spend a lot of time watching him because I don't, so you may indeed be right in your assessment of the story.

Like I said before, I posted this story to elicit comments from other posters regarding their opinions of it. I really appreciate your taking the time to do that, instead of using the thread to "kill the messenger."

Thanks for your input.

Huffpo, just another left-wing rag-tag source. (nm) - nm

Enough already - and your link is not credible - just me

[ In Reply To ..]
Okay, you don't like Fox news....we get it already. Continually posting to bash Fox news is going to get you nowhere. Millions and millions of people, AND people in other countries like it. Me, for the most part I like about 50% of it. They bring the news stories of the day and I like seeing what is happening in other parts of the country and around the world.

So if you don't like it fine, but it's getting tiring of your continuation to bash them. Then what do you do? Post a link to the Huffington Post. Are you kidding me??????? Why not just post a link to an MSNBC or CNN article. NOT credible.

It's a link to a video of him in his own words. Are you saying (sm) - Nikki

[ In Reply To ..]
Shep Smith isn't credible? Because I find him to be one of the very few credible reporters on Fox.

If you actually viewed the video, you'd find that his comments could be taken a couple different ways: (1) In a serious way, meaning that the story would not have been aired in the first place if he had known the other candidate was not available or (2) In a sarcastic way, indicating that the candidate wasn't willing to be available.

I posted it because I seriously wanted to see responses with different views. Instead, you choose to attack and accuse me of bashing Fox News.

All I was interested in was how others interpret this video.

If you believe my link to the Huffington Post isn't credible, please give me one reason WHY you think it isn't credible -- considering IT'S A VIDEO OF SHEP SMITH HIMSELF.

Since you don't like my link, try some of these (and then tell me again how Huffington Post isn't credible). There are many, many more links available, other than the few provided below. Just Google it:

[ In Reply To ..]
We're getting tired of the constant posts bashing Fox news. You don't like Fox news...we get that....posting negative about them over and over and over would be like me posting something every single day or twice a day about the birth certificate thing.

As for Shep Smith...he needs to stick to just reporting new stories...I lost any respect I had for him when he interviewed a nurse who was coming on to talk about why she wasn't going to be forced to take the flu vaccine. He visciously attacked her saying she wasn't responsible by telling people about the dangers of the vaccine and we were thinking, your not being responsible by not telling the public about the dangers of the vaccine (which BTW we found out that R. Murdock owns stock (or part of the company) that makes the vaccines - thought that was interesting). Anyway...Shep reporting the news is okay, him interviewing I don't care for. I can't stand Hannity or O'Reilly, Greta's okay and Glen Beck I can take or leave. But just because I don't like Fox I don't come on and bash them constantly. Since millions and millions of people watch and like Fox news (including other countries) because it's the only news station that lets both sides have a voice, there is no reason for me to bash them.

But when you use Huffington Post, Raw Story, MSNBBC, or other places like that as a place to substantiate your opinion it's just a little hard to swallow, especially since when people post things from Fox and they are told it is not credible.
