Sharpton's threat

Posted: Mar 30, 2012

I'm now convinced that Sharpton is a race-baiter who is inciting violence.  This is a definately a scary guy.  Why aren't the leaders in this country trying to calm this down?  And they said the Tea Party was violent and scary (I believe Biden called them terrorists)??

Al Sharpton: Civil disobedience will escalate if Zimmerman remains free

If George Zimmerman is not arrested in the shooting death of Trayvon Martin soon, theRev. Al Sharpton will call for an escalation in peaceful civil disobedience and economic sanctions.

Sharpton would not say the efforts would be taken against the city of Sanford specifically, but he has been critical of the police department's handling of the case.

Saturday's scheduled 11 a.m. march from Crooms Academy of Information Technology to the Sanford Police Department headquarters was organized by National Association for the Advancement of Colored People. Coordinators said people will be bused in from other states to participate.

The civil rights activist and syndicated television show host said he will elaborate on this plan Saturday.

"I will speak about how the National Action Network will move to the next level if Zimmerman isn't arrested," Sharpton said, who founded the organization. He added that it was the Martin family and lawyers who first asked him to get involved and nationalize this story.

TheRev. Jesse Jacksonis also expected to participate in the event.

The case has ignited ire and debate across the nation, galvanizing thousands of Trayvon supporters to the streets and social media, donning hoodies and toting Skittles.

Sanford police this week released a video of a handcuffed George Zimmerman apparently showing no visible signs of physical injury after he claimed that he shot the 17-year-old Miami teenager in self-defense.

Zimmerman's family have come to his defense on national news networks, releasing details about his version of what happened the night of Feb. 26 when police found the teen face down in wet grass.

Sharpton said the recent revelations only underscores the need for an immediate arrest and trial.

"Whether he [Zimmerman] had a swollen or broken nose, neither one means he had to take a 9mm and kill someone," he said. "It's not about saying Zimmerman is innocent or guilty, this is about whether there was probable cause to arrest him."

He criticized the way authorities have released information about the case and said they are setting a harmful precedent, he said.

Sanford city officials announced several road closures in anticipation of the march including 13th street, from U.S. Highway 17-92 to Lake Avenue; as well as, Persimmon Street from McCracken Road to 13th.

The demonstration is expected to end at 2 p.m., organizers said.

Nothing new here. Have yet to year one of the left-leaners step up, man up and tell everyone to cool off. They act as if they want blood shed everywhere.

"they" want bloodshed - that's shocking

Ooooo. Peaceful civil disobedience and economic sanctions. Free speech sure is scary stuff. The first amendment is my favorite.

Apparently you have no problem - Trigger Happy

with looting stores, destroying other people's or public property and potentially rioting with enough violence to cause injury or, God forbid, the death of another innocent person? Really? There are other ways to get their point across. No one is talking about getting rid of the first amendment here. It is the violence and unlawfulness we have a problem with and that is what Al Sharpton is suggesting they do if Zimmerman isn't charged here soon. They can march and chant whatever they want however long they want. When their message goes from marching and chanting with signs and candles to unlawfulness and violence...it has gone TOO far and you know it. For a reverend to incite such actions is beyond wrong. Two wrongs don't make a right here people. You can speak your mind and get your point across without violence and hatred...Martin Luther King did.

No violence suggested - mbmt

[ In Reply To ..]
There is no violence suggested by Reverend Al Sharpton in this case. He asks for a "peaceful" escalation.
I'm sorry but to me - Trigger Happy
[ In Reply To ..]
peaceful civil disobedience is an oxymoron. Was the looting of that Walgreens "peaceful civil disobedience?" Granted, I know Sharpton didn't call for the looting that I know of, but I still don't see how civil disobedience is peaceful but whatever. We shall see what that turns out to be. I'm not a gambling kinda gal, but I'd bet it won't be peaceful especially from what I've seen on TV and the comments made by the New Black Panter Party along with the looting that has already taken place in regards to this case. It's gonna get ugly and Sharpton can say the word peaceful all he wants but he incites hatred among black Americans for white Americans. It is people like him that segregate us by hatred instead of trying to bring us together as equals. The impression I get from him is that he doesn't want all races equal. He wants the white race to pay and he won't be happy until black people are superior and we pay for the sins of our ancestors.
GZ and his 9mm would've had a field day - with Walgreen looters
[ In Reply To ..]
Then said he felt his life was being threatened and walked AGAIN. Perhaps if you wait to see what the reverands have to say, instead of rushing to judgment and posting the right's latest race baiting drivel, they can clear up your confusion between peaceful resistance and spontaneous flash mob violence being fueled by outrage over the way this case is being handled. Sharpton is the messenger, but it's the message and the politics behind it that's divisive.

The NBP bounty has been strongly denounced by all those involved in gathering support for arrest of GZ, charges and due process, yet the right continues to relentlessly fan THAT flame. Thank you for invoking MLK. History reminds us that Sharpton and Jackson both worked right alongside him to promote civil rights, which in retrospect have served as a force of UNITY for most of us, yet there are those diehards who continue to try to reverse that progress.

Ain't happening.
of course looting is not peaceful civil disobedience - (for crying out loud)
[ In Reply To ..]
I don't think any of us believe that looting is peaceful, civil, or simple disobedience. I think you are spending too much time in the hyperbolic chamber. Point out where Sharpton recommends looting and the like, and I will condemn him along with you.

peaceful civil disobedience - is not unlawful

Sharpton is a racist. - Trigger Happy

I've never heard such blatant racist hate speech out of one person. The reason our leaders don't say anything is because obviously our leader feels that Zimmerman is guilty of a hate crime against a young black man that could have been his son or he wouldn't have put his 2 cents in on the situation. It doesn't get much simpler than that. The first African-American president in the history of our country and we have more racial diversity now than we have had in a really long time.

Mark my words, Zimmerman will be made an example of one way or another. If he isn't charged or is charged and found innocent, there will be riots and that man will be found dead eventually or he will be charged and found guilty to keep peace in the public.

I have no problem with marches, etc. I do have a problem when you start looting Walgreens or inciting violence and unlawful behavior because the whole point of your argument is lost. Al Sharpton has corrupted Martin Luther King's message and so has the Rev. Jessie Jackson, but too many people are blinded by hatred to see it.

We haven't seen the end of this. There will more than likely be riots and violence over this and more people will probably end up hurt.

I disagree. There is not more racial tension - (not diversity) now SM

[ In Reply To ..]
than before Obama was president. It has just become more overt rather than covert. Has anyone noticed this? The racists in this country who have pretended not to be can no longer keep quiet and under control. Much of the attack against the president IMO is racial. As far as this shooting, the stand your ground law is the real culprit, and there are many outrageous examples of this being the defense actually being accepted. The one that comes to mind is the older gentleman who saw his neighbor's house being robbed, called 911, told to stay in his house, said no way, walked outside, yelled "goodbye" or something like that, and used a shotgun to kill 2 people. He was not charged. IMO in this latest example of so called stand your ground, the guy pursued this kid, confronted this kid, and killed this kid. That is the reason for the outrage, rightly so. Without people speaking up, this would quietly go away.

To another poster who said something about this not stopping until blacks are superior, what in the world does that mean BTW?

I get so sick and tired of - Trigger Happy

[ In Reply To ..]
being put in the racist category merely for disagreeing with our president. He is black...so what. I disagreed with things Bush did too. Just because the president is black, although technically is biracial, doesn't mean we can't disagree with him.

No one is saying that racism and hate crimes don't happen. Do you have iron clad proof that Zimmerman pursued this kid, confronted this kid, and killed this kid? There is no video of all that took place. Did the kid fight back? Did the kid try and grab Zimmerman's gun? These are things we don't know. The only we know for sure is that he should have stopped following him when the 911 dispatcher told him to stop. You are assuming he went after and killed this kid on purpose because he was black. You have NO proof of that whatsoever and once again...this is America...innocent until proven guilty.

As for my diversity comment...I meant there is more divisiveness....excuse me for typing in the wrong word.

As for blacks being superior...there are some blacks who feel that things won't be right until the whites are oppressed by the blacks. Some blacks are looking for payback. They don't want equality....they want to punish whites for a crime we didn't commit. Perhaps our ancestors did...but we didn't.

The KKK is full of hate...so is the New Black Panther Party. The KKK wants whites to be superior to blacks and the New Black Panther Party wants blacks to be superior to whites. Same hatred...just different skin colors. For the record, I find both groups disgusting.

If you still don't understand my meaning behind superior, here is the definition: Higher in rank, status, quality.
Trigger happy: I don't understand why you - are so defensive SM
[ In Reply To ..]
I didn't say you were against the president because of race. It is my opinion that some (not all) so called leaders/politicians are having a hard time keeping their true feelings on the "down low". I didn't say you. I just changed the wording of your post because I thought diversity was the wrong word, that's all. Nothing personal. I have never seen such animosity towards anything this president proposes in my life. Anything and everything. I feel strongly that much of this is because they just cannot accept the fact that we have a black president. Again, my opinion. Questioning his patriotism, his birth place, a communist, on and on...beyond ridiculous. I don't believe this would happen with a white democratic president, I just don't.

Thank you for clearing up the superior remark. I just wasn't sure what you meant, that's all. Now I do. I know that even now many white people feel superior, especially these old farts who are still around, and they need to be gone from positions of power sooner than later IMO. It seems that as each generation moves on, we get closer and closer to equality for all, just look at the gay issue. The younger you are, the less this is a big deal. Eventually, as new generations take powerful positions, this will become a nonissue, at least I hope so. These old white men just don't want to give it up, they cannot stand it, again IMO. Hopefully, this will work itself out in time, we will have a woman president, another black president, even a hispanic president, hopefully people who will truly believe in equality for all people. I am still reeling from the efforts to take power away from women that is happening right now. It all comes from the same place, IMO. Fear.

You brought up a lot of good points. Racism exists on all sides, regardless of color. Violence never solves anything, and only diminishes what is trying to be accomplished. People become so caught up in the mob mentality, they lose their reasoning in many situations, only leading to more violence and problems. Just look at what Spike Lee and Roseanne Barr did. That elderly couple has to deal with all of that fall out for a situation that did not involve them because another person went off half-cocked and no facts, all supposedly in the name of justice. I am sure no one on this board would want their parents or family to be terrorized like that couple was.

I think his remarks were pretty circumspect - sm

[ In Reply To ..]
For all the talk of profiling and racism in this tragic case, I applaud Mr. Sharpton for the following remark:

"It's not about saying Zimmerman is innocent or guilty, this is about whether there was probable cause to arrest him."

I really don't hear that - sm

[ In Reply To ..]
I don't understand what you are talking about when you say "blatant racist hate speach" with regard to Sharpton.

This remark sounds racist to me, however: "there are some blacks who feel that things won't be right until the whites are oppressed by the blacks". Again, I don't understand where that comes from.

There are certainly all kinds of people out there who are just plain nuts and wish for all kinds of crazy things. These individuals are not representatives of their race, religion, or party, however.

Rev Al's media manipulation - goes back many years

[ In Reply To ..]

Earlier today, MSNBC's Al Sharpton threatened the peace of a small Florida town if it doesn't acquiesce to his demand for the arrest of George Zimmerman. According to the Orlando Sentinel:

If George Zimmerman is not arrested in the shooting death of Trayvon Martin soon, the Rev. Al Sharpton will call for an escalation in peaceful civil disobedience and economic sanctions.  Sharpton would not say the efforts would be taken against the city of Sanford specifically, but he has been critical of the police department's handling of the case.

If only someone had warned NBC News that they were giving a prime-time platform to a vitriolic, race-hustling charlatan. Oh wait--we did. Even some journalists on the left did. Recently uncovered video from over twenty years ago has Al Sharpton, in his own words, bragging about his ability to manipulate the media to draw attention to his race-hustling agenda. And he's playing out his blueprint to a T in Florida today.

In the video seen below, Sharpton brags about his ability to manipulate the media through his grandstanding, demonstrations and marches. He pats himself on the back over being able to convert a “one day story” into an international sensation by giving the media what they want: drama, contention, provocative images and charges of racism.

In the Tawana Brawley case, it took months for Sharpton to bring New York to a race-induced frenzy.  With his new platform at MSNBC, Sharpton was able to get the President of the United States to comment on the case within one week.  And why did the President speak about Trayvon? Because he was asked a question by a reporter ... from MSNBC.

Sharpton is now at the center of every public demonstration calling for the arrest of George Zimmerman. He has transformed his hourly show into a community organizing infomercial for the Martin case and has given a platform to the ongoing race-baiting that swirls around the case.

When you watch Sharpton from twenty years ago boast about his ability to manipulate the media and paint a race-hustling narrative that serves his political (and financial) purposes, and then watch an episode of his show on MSNBC, it is obvious that NBC News is being used in the most destructive and embarrassing way. The question is: does MSNBC care?

MSNBC President Phil Griffin called Al Sharpton an “elder statesman” upon hiring him. The comment suggested that Sharpton’s days of dangerous and volatile grandstanding and race-baiting on behalf of an easily-manipulated victim were behind him. Clearly that wasn't true. But that isn't stopping MSNBC from sticking with him. Here's what an MSNBC spokesman had to say:

"We hired Al Sharpton to be Al Sharpton. When Rev. Sharpton joined MSNBC, it was with the understanding that he would continue to do his advocacy work.  We're fully aware of that work and we have an ongoing dialogue.  His participation in these events is very public and our audience is completely aware of where he stands on the issues.  It's because of this work and his decades of activism that Rev. Sharpton brings such a unique perspective to our line up."

MSNBC and Griffin should be ashamed of themselves. Sharpton being Sharpton deserves no airtime; he certainly doesn't deserve a primetime news slot on a major cable news network. But he's proving once again that he knows how to manipulate the media -- only this time, he's manipulating his own network into paying him to propagandize and race-bait.  http://www.breitbart.com/Big-Journalism/2012/03/30/Sharpton-Civil-Disobedience

I also heard the speech he gave, and in essence he gave the okay for "peaceful civil disobedience." That would be anything but peaceful. He should not call himself a minister, but should be working to calm this situation down and not prosecute Zimmerman before he even goes to trial, if that happens. I dislike the fact that the very people who believe their rights have been taken away are now sending death threats to the Zimmerman family. Recently Spike Lee gave out a false address on a family called Zimmerman, no relation to the Zimmerman accused of shooting the young man, and people called in death threats to them, harrassed their family until finally they had to seek shelter elsewhere. What jackass would do that!! This is a tragedy all the way around. What happened to innocent until proven guilty. I am afraid that this will backfire in the most horrible of ways. The president of the NAACP spoke today, and he did nothing to calm anyone down, and instead spoke like a racist himself. There are many different types of ethnic groups, many of whom have been persecuted for a long, long time..but we don't see acting this way. I think we need to make sure that our young people treat each other equally and work together to bring some peace and an end to this hatred. The leaders who speak should set an example. As far as I am concerned Al Sharpton is a trouble maker and racist.
