You can't seriously defend Al Sharpton - he is just plain awful and the fact that NBC/MSNBC actually pays him to spew is even worse. You obviously have not read about his criminal background. I cringe when I hear someone address him as "reverend."

It's equally cringeworthy the way conservatives on this board can see a dislike and read so much into what the dislikes probably mean. Sure, all that stuff you just pulled out of thin air must be exactly what those people who disliked your post must have been thinking.

and now want to convince everybody it's the Democrats doing it. It's that familiar pin it on the other guy line of complete drivel they are so fond of in recent years; it's that whole cognitive dissonance and totally unbelievable line of thinking they are spewing that racism does not exist anymore because we said so.... unless it's black people being racists against white people. The constant we see in this political scenario they've been nurturing for decades now is that somehow white people are being taken advantage of. Somehow in their conservative world of cognitive dissonance, racism no longer exists unless they are the victims of it.

Google "Southern Strategy" and "Lee Atwater" and educate yourselves.

Maybe try googling the history of - civil rights...

Of course, only the most uneducated among us would believe the irrational idea that all Democrats of the past were racists or that all of today's Republicans are racists, but what do you think the Southern Strategy was? When Democrats were working hard to pass civil rights legislation in the 1960s (thank you President Kennedy and President Johnson), the Republicans finally had the issue they needed to gain enough Democratic votes to "flip" the South and appeal to the racist faction of the Democratic party to become Republicans. Being a Democrat from the South myself, I watched the party torn apart and many Democratic politicians flip Republican along with them. The most fervent opposition to the Civil Rights bill came from segregationist Senator Strom Thurmond (D-SC), who (you know it) became a Republican Senator. Looking back on Strom's story, you have to shake your head at the sheer hypocrisy and stupidity of it all.

Anyway, Republicans today are still walking a fine line while still playing and punching that race card regularly to appeal to the ever dwindling and dying ranks of racists, while they watch their party being torn apart much as it tore apart the Democratic party when the progressive Democrats passed the Civil Rights Act of 1964 and Voting Rights Act of 1965 and sent their ilk packing long, long ago, and the regressive, take our country backward Republicans courted them, nurtured them, and encourage them to this day. They're all yours now, and they know it, as the same people who nurtured them are now working behind the scenes to eradicate them in order to move further to the left to remain relevant, and that's a good thing for all of us.

The POTUS listens to all kinds of people's leaders. It's basically his job.

I don't care what the news media are telling you to keep you living in the bubble in fear and reacting and voting against your own best interests, but Al Sharpton is not a threat to you. Seriously. They know this, but they also know that fear is a great motivator. The people who want all the money flowing upward will continue to whine to the chatterers how socialism is bad, but they love their corporate socialism. Keep those taxpayers' dollars flowing up and into the bankers' and big corporations' pockets. It's only socialism when the peoples' money goes to the people. When the peoples' money is used to fund wars of choice and build oil pipelines and to bail out the rich guys on Wall Street, well that's quite alright with them.

You live in fear of a television personality while they live in greed and laugh all the way to the bank with your money which you were so easily parted from while you were busy focusing on the superfluous issues. They're counting on it.

1987 - Becomes the spokesman for the family of Tawana Brawley, a black teenager who claimed she was abducted and raped by six white police officers.

January 1988 - A Newsday article reveals that Sharpton was an FBI informant on organized crime, public figures, and black civic leaders.

1989 - Is charged with 67 felony counts of tax evasion, larceny and fraud. Is acquitted on all counts and pleads guilty to the misdemeanor charge of failure to file state income tax for 1986.

1990 - Supports the five black defendants in the Central Park jogger case where a white female jogger was gang raped and beaten. In December 2002 all convictions are overturned when another man confesses to the crime and DNA evidence supports his confession.

1991 - Founds the National Action Network, a civil rights organization whose purpose is to expose the evils of racial profiling and police brutality.

January 12, 1991 - Is stabbed in the chest under the left clavicle while leading a march in Bensonhurst against the verdict in the case of the 1989 murder of Yusef Hawkins. The wound is not considered life-threatening. Michael Riccardi is convicted of the crime and Sharpton speaks at Riccardi's sentencing hearing, asking for leniency.

1992 - Enters politics and places third of four Democratic candidates in New York's primary for the U.S. Senate.

1994 - Runs and loses in the primary for Daniel Patrick Moynihan's U.S. Senate seat.
