Al Sharpton: "The American Public Overwhelmingly Voted for Socialism When They Elected President Obama"
;
Let's give more of that quote, which takes off most of your spin. - SM

He went on to say, "Let’s not act as though the president didn’t tell the American people – the president offered the American people health reform when he ran. He was overwhelmingly elected running on that and he has delivered what he promised."

"I think that the president and Nancy Pelosi get credit," Sharpton said. "I think this began the transforming of the country the way the president had promised. This is what he ran on."
And if that transformation is socialism, then so be it, he explained. That is what the American public "overwhelmingly" voted for.
"First of all, then we have to say the American public overwhelmingly voted for socialism when they elected President Obama," Sharpton said. "Let's not act as though the president didn't tell the American people - the president offered the American people health reform when he ran. He was overwhelmingly elected running on that and he has delivered what he promised."
Despite polling showing otherwise leading up to the momentous occasion of the vote on health care reform, the claim this goes against the wishes of the American people is false based on the 2008 presidential election.
"I don't understand Republicans saying this is against the will of the American people," Sharpton said. "They voted for President Obama who said this was going to be one of the first things he would do and he has done the first hurdle of that tonight. So I think the American people was very loud and clear. This was not some concept the president introduced after he won. He ran on this and the American people won tonight because they got finally something from a president they voted for."
He may have offered... - nnn

health reform but, even those who voted for him may not get what they expect from this "reform." He may go down in history as the president who introduced health reform but that doesn't necessarily mean it will be a positive for him. It's a sad day when Americans are made to suffer just to bolster his ego. But, if you're a die-hard Obama fan, you'll never see the forest for the trees anyway.
You say "may" and "don't know" yet you say it's a sad day, meaning -- - you have made up your mind anyway
[ In Reply To ..]
Good one. Admit that we can't know, yet state firmly that you know what the outcome will be.
Good. Don't let those pesky facts or experience get in the way. Make up your mind and stick to it, come h3ll or high water.

Uncle Sam "forces" something on society, it can never be good for everyone. Those who are applauding this health "reform" are Obama fans who are blinded by his rhetoric and/or have the funds it will take to "insure" themselves at whatever cost. There won't be any "suffering" involved where his fans are concerned. Unfortunately, the country is made up of more than just Obama's sheep and that's a sad day for the rest of us. But he came through on his promise, consequences be durned.

"Perhaps most important to the states, these enforcement and exchange responsibilities are an unfunded mandate. The Senate legislation would provide the states with start-up funding for the exchanges, consumer assistance, and premium review, but once the legislation was implemented, states would be on their own. Moreover, the federal government would administer the affordability credits, which would not pass through the states (except in states with waivers). The states would not, in any event, have access to this money for carrying out their responsibilities."
BT, I thought that was just with the Senate bill, that...sm - nosa
[ In Reply To ..]
the house bill put responsibility solely with the feds, all 50 states required to comply, no opting out by individual states. I personally think that his is the way it should be.

Is that Obama claimed continually claimed before the election that his presidency would be open and transparent. That's far from what it has been. It's dirty politics as usual. I don't trust Obama and his gang, and they have rammed this through just to get something passed. By the way, I didn't trust Bush either. But what Obama is doing is NOT the will of the majority and could very likely sink this country economically. I fear for the future greatly.
Well then, what Sharpton does not get is its simply - a BAD BILL. What, just because we voted
[ In Reply To ..]
for Obama means we go along with whatever the plan is, even if its terrible? Americans CAN actually think for themselves. Most of us are not sheep who just follow a leader blindly. Gee, Sharpton, you are as arrogant as ever. Give Americans some credit for looking into this bloated, lousy bill that will only give us more debt without helping enough people in the first place.
...and, here is what came before that statement. sm - oldtimer

Jeraldo said, "are you (now, with passage of the bill) into socialism"? Al said "First of all, then we would have to say that the American public overwhelmingly voted for socialism when they elected President Obama." I take that to mean you can put any label on it you want, but this is what the American people voted for when they elected Obama.
That's already been stated here. What have you added to the conversation? - nm

An observation - Anon

I didn't know whether this should be a reply to a different post, so if I'm replying to the wrong person I am sorry.
My observation (well not just mine, others I have talked to): Have you ever noticed that the people who are introducing socialism slowly by slowly into our country will not be affected by it. They are the politicians in office and their socialized programs don't affect them. It didn't affect Stalin and his goon-squad, it doesn't affect Chavez or Castro or Mao or any of the people who are enforcing it, it just affects the little people (us). It doesn't surprise me that they passed this bill even though overwhelmingly (more than 80% - I think 86% to be exact) do not want this health care bill to pass. So goes to show they don't listen to the people (the ones they work for). Stalin and all the other leaders of their country didn't listen to the people of their country either.
Anyway...just an observation that the people making the decisions that affect the country are not subject to the same things they enslave us in.
Exactly!!! - nnn

Why bother to vote or voice our concern if Big Brother isn't going to listen to our concerns? A majority is supposed to rule but, in this Obama administration, your vote is overridden with bribes and/or force if necessary. So much for the will of the people and get involved--vote. What a crock!!
Why would ANYONE listen to ANYTHING Al Sharpton has to say? - deb
[ In Reply To ..]
The man is a liar, a crook, and an idiot, he sets race relations back about 50 years. But just because he has "Rev." in front of his name, people kiss his fat behind.
Maybe for the same reason.... - nnn
[ In Reply To ..]
people listen to Obama and kiss his skinny behind (who by the way has "president" in front of his name) who has lied, bribed and takes everyone for a fool while he continues with an arrogant air making his own decisions and forsaking the "will of the people." To each his own. ;)
Oh, I dunno. We elected a chimp not once, but twice. - Go figure

Al Sharpton Is Obama’s Whipping BoyJan 01, 2015
As more and more racially-motivated attacks against police and private citizens are occurring as a result of the recent and unfortunate deaths of two black men at the hands of police, the blame for all of this racial division needs to be squarely placed on the laps of President Obama and race-baiters like Rev. Al Sharpton.

Writing about race relations in America became decidedly more difficult in August. The nation which elected its first black president more than six years ago and which reelected him quite comfortably two years ago seems to have slipped a substantial racial gear or two since August 9th. It was on that date that Ferguson Missouri police officer Darren Wilson shot and killed Michael Brown an unarmed black teenager, triggering a ...
