Sen Roy Blunt R-MO on GOP Senate majority: We can also screw it up like

Posted: Oct 21, 2014

"But if anybody can mess this up my side has the total capacity here at the last minute to figure out how to turn 65% to 25%" when talking about his party's chances.  "We've proven a couple of times in a row that we can do that," he says about Republicans snatching defeat from the jaws of victory in previous elections.

He sure does live up to his name.  Gets my like vote for his honesty on this.

Schools Are Blunt About New Pot Law: Not On Our CampusNov 10, 2012
Colleges in the land of legalized pot say they still won't allow students to smoke marijuana. 12:08PM EST November 10. 2012 - Social media is abuzz with future college students dreaming of doing bong hits openly on the greens of universities in Colorado and Washington state. But those dreams may go up in smoke. "If someone thinks they are going to walk around campus smoking a joint, it's not going to happen," says University of Washington spokesman Norman Arkans. Looks Like Democrats Have The 60-vote Majority!Nov 21, 2009
In a show of unity, Senate Democrats sealed a 60-vote majority needed to advance health care legislation Saturday ahead of an evening showdown with Republicans eager to doom the bill and inflict a punishing defeat on President Barack Obama. Two final holdouts, Sens. Mary Landrieu of Louisiana and Blanche Lincoln of Arkansas, announced in speeches a few hours apart on the Senate floor they would vote to clear the way for what is expected to be a bruising, full-scale health care debate after Than ...

What The Majority Of The People Want Re Tax CutsDec 03, 2010
"here’s what the public said about the Bush tax cuts, according to the exit polls last month: 40 percent said to continue ALL of the cuts, 36 percent said to continue them for families who earn less than $250,000 a year, and an additional 15 percent said to expire them for all. So a majority -- 51 percent -- backed either the Democratic position or wants all the cuts to expire." ...

House GOP Majority And Dems Are Becoming A WorkingFeb 09, 2013
need to work together to get anything done. Not to say anyone thinks any of these leopards have changed their spots, and divisions and obstructionism are deeply engrained, but increasingly these old opponents across the aisle have more in common with each other than with the GOP's extreme TP/"base." The Bizarre Notion That Muslims Must Become A MajorityJul 16, 2016
Someone posted an (incorrect) analysis regarding the theoretical increase in the Muslim population in America.  It failed to take a number of factors into account and was slanted in a painfully obvious way toward her position, but that's not what I'm discussing here. I think, sometimes, that the most treasonous failure of the American educational system is that it manages to spit out "graduates" (even from college) who haven't the faintest notion not only of how to think or ...

Senate Health BillOct 20, 2009
Senate Health Bill - 1502 pages   "It's important to remember that the bill won't exist in this form for long. Senate Majority Leader Reid and Sens. Max Baucus and Chris Dodd along with senior White House aides are merging the Finance and Health Committee legislation into one bill that will be considered on the floor of the Senate. The behind-closed-doors dealings have drawn criticism from Republicans, particularly because President Obama had promised a transparent process and ...

Tax Cut Measures Fail In The SenateDec 04, 2010
They voted on the Baucus amendment and the Schumer amendment and both failed to pass.  I find some of the comments very interesting from both sides. I will not give my comments on either side's remarks although I saw some really hateful speeches. I decided to look for any news reports on this but it doesn't tell the whole story. BTW, Baucus'  proposal was to let tax rates rise on Jan. 1 on incomes over $200,000 for individuals and $250,000 for couples fell on a vote of ...

HCR Now Faces Senate ChallengeMar 22, 2010
So it's not over yet. Washington (CNN) -- Now that the House has passed the Senate's health care reform bill and a package meant to reconcile differences between the House and Senate bills, the next step is for members of the Senate to sign off on those changes. That won't be as easy as it sounds. Senate Republicans have indicated they will use any and all legislative tactics in order to slow -- even stop -- the reconciliation bill from passing. President Obama is expected to ...

step down after next year. He's way too conservative for me, but apparently entirely too responsible and independent to suit the teapartiers and their backers. Majority Of Voters Believe The Country Is Worse Off TodaySep 05, 2012
Voters say second term for Obama is undeserved, country is worse off. 52% say nation is in "worse condition". 54% say he does not deserve reelection based solely on his job performance. They also strongly suggest Democrats need to convince voters the election should be a choice between Obama and Republican nominee Mitt Romney, rather than a referendum on the president. - http://thehill.com/conventions-2012/dem-convention-charlotte/247263-hill-poll-voters-think-second-term-undeserved ...

GOP Senate Apparently Hasn't Hit Bottom Yet, Dec 05, 2012
Yesterday, with Bob Dole visiting the Senate in his wheelchair in support, the Senate voted on ratifying the treaty adopting the U.N. version of our Americans with Disabilities Act, passed under President George H. W. Bush. In spite of bipartisan leadership by 2 war heroes, John McCain and John Kerry, and strong support among many of the GOP Senators,  radical Republicans in the Senate voted AGAINST it. Why? Well, as Rick Santorum explained in his new column for a far-right birther rag, Wo ...
