Oops, maybe I shouldn't have complimented. - Now the knee-jerks (can be either side)...

[ In Reply To ..]
will just do drive-by dislikes and not even give your sources a chance. Oh well, their loss.

I'll have to wait until I'm off my shift to delve into them, but thanks again. More like this in the future will certainly be appreciated by some (at least one).

No worries :-) - sm

The commentary and facts are about the same from all sources.

It's just the GOP in evolution and interesting to watch.

I'm not a fan of Rove, but I do think his crusade is a step in the right direction for the GOP.

As an American (even though I'm a Democrat), I really think weeding out the Tea Party is the best thing for America. As a Democrat, the Tea Party influence assures more than another Democratic president and possibly more seats in Congress, but as I alluded to above, as an American I prefer to see a better balance of contention between the two parties, where we can get back to the principles of each, considering all citizens within the framework of policy.

I'm not sure where you're coming from... I'm not good at reading between the lines ;-)... so I hope no offense is taken if you do support the Tea Party.

Maybe I'll leave that a mystery. ;) - sm

[ In Reply To ..]
I will say this: I support the use of reputable sources, not tabloid-esque, yellow journalism/media (I think that might give a hint).

What is so wrong with the Tea Party? - sm

[ In Reply To ..]
Just a question. On the Tea Party website the mission is described as below. What is wrong with that? It might be a little too simplified in today's complex world but looks like a good foundation to build on to me.

The Tea Party Patriots' mission is to restore America's founding principles of Fiscal Responsibility, Constitutionally Limited Government and Free Markets.
Their mission sounds good, doesn't it? Their mission in - action is the same as the Koch brothers',
[ In Reply To ..]
unfortunately. Whatever the TP started out as, studies show that its membership has become mostly authoritarian followers, mostly social and religious conservatives, and the leadership directing and funding them is using them to pursue personal business interests and a generally libertarian agenda.
Based on my personal experience - sm
[ In Reply To ..]
I have not found the individuals attending TP meetings to fit your description at all; I certainly do not fit that description. As far as your statement regarding leadership, again as far as local leaders I have not found that to be the case - although I would not rule it out completely since, disappointing as it may be, that is basically "politics as usual" and not something unique only to the TP.
I agree with the above poster that the Tea Party has been co-opted - mraker
[ In Reply To ..]
and now veers from its original mission (not that I necessarily ever agreed with that mission). I also agree with you that it is basically "politics as usual" and that a lot of organizations get diverted from their original mission and ethics. It may just be a matter of degree of hypocrisy and how much one can stand that in their own group when and where it occurs.
Them as pays the money calls the tune. - Look to the funding. BTW,
[ In Reply To ..]
what do authoritarian followers look like? Everyone, anyone. Half the GOP congressmen are probably AFs. This isn't some weird pathology, it's just one subtype of normal people that happens to be heavily, but not entirely clustered on the "right."

Are you the OP or are you replying to yourself - Serious conversation - sm

[ In Reply To ..]
I'm not sure if you are the OP or if you are the person who replied to the OP or someone totally different.

Why did you feel a need to post this post. It looks like you're trying to stir up trouble. Why shouldn't you have complimented if you liked the story? Who cares what the "knee-jerks" thinks. If you like a story say so, but no need to stir up trouble.

I read the sources. The first two were good. The Huff one I don't trust. Huff is certainly not fair or balanced. Okay I really hate to say fair and balanced but i can't think of another word for it. Huff has never been known to be "even keel" and the stories on their site are mostly bloggers giving their opinions.

Who are you going to "delve into"? What do you mean by "delve into". Start a fight?

I don't like Karl Rove. Well it's not that I don't like him, but I don't dislike him. I just have no feelings toward him whatsoever. I try to ignore him just like I do with Clinton and a lot of other people in politics. A lot of them are there to get rich that's all.

But I did like the first two articles. I've never read the tea party patriots page, just cos I feel the same way about them as I do Karl Rove. I think they've been infiltrated. I usually get my news from news sources that actually report news. What people are getting from the MSM is not news. People will toe-toe what I read, but then 2 or 3 days later the news stories come out in the no news media and then people believe it. LOL

I guess I just don't understand why you felt a need to post this. Just looks like you are trying to start a fight, but since it's midnight and I ain't got nothing to do the rest of the night that's cool, I'll just sit back and enjoy the show. Woohoo!!!! ;-)

Oh, goodness gracious. I'm "Nicely balanced" and "Oops." - mraker

[ In Reply To ..]
I suppose I should have posted my "Oops" under the "Nicely balanced," but I thought that would have caused the same kind of confusion that doing what I did apparently has.

I'm going to delve into the OP's sources more when I have more time.

I posted the "Oops" post because a "dislike" came through very quickly, which I think was a knee-jerk thing to do considering the OP went out of his/her way to provide sources from both sides, and I also posted it to further support the OP after the really unwarranted (in my opinion ... of course) dislike.

I don't have time now to really read your post as thoroughly as you might like, but hopefully I've clarified your issues. If you have any more that needs clarifying, give a (hopefully brief) holler.
p.s. Sorry, Serious conversation, I didn't mean to sound testy. - mraker

But looking up "delve into" before you posted might have saved us both some time. ;)

This is good, I really need to start using a moniker here anyway. Maybe my post about the Maher show on gun control ("Lay's potato chips," hah) would have received a different reaction if folks knew which side of the aisle I was coming from. A sarcasm font might be a big help too (and everywhere on the Internet, for that matter). :)
This is GOP leadership war on far right social conservatives, - and to a lesser extent on far right economic

conservatives. Jim DeMint and his Senate Conservatives Fund, for instance, were behind losing radical social candidates such as Sharron Angle and Todd Akins, and Rove's group intends to bring them down.

To me, this is like a couple of packs of sharks going after each other, but I have to hold my nose and rooting for Rove's group. The other has driven many good, respected and competent moderate conservatives from office, replacing them with the kind of incompetent buffoons neither party can work with and relatively few constituents actually wanted elected.

Karl Rove is an idiot. - Go Tea Party - get the Commies out!!

Interestingly, fascist and "commie" factions used - to seduce each others' extremists away.

[ In Reply To ..]
See, extremists on both the far right and far left are very like each other, happening to hold different positions but easily vulnerable to persuasion if couched in the right terms.

So, be careful. If they came wooing you, could you someday find yourself ranting for the workers of the world to unite? :)

No shame here.

"While cautioning about possible pitfalls of keeping one's attention ever trained downward, "on the muck," Roosevelt emphasized the social benefit of investigative muckraking reporting, saying:

There are, in the body politic, economic and social, many and grave evils, and there is urgent necessity for the sternest war upon them. There should be relentless exposure of and attack upon every evil man whether politician or business man, every evil practice, whether in politics, in business, or in social life. I hail as a benefactor every writer or speaker, every man who, on the platform, or in book, magazine, or newspaper, with merciless severity makes such attack, provided always that he in his turn remembers that the attack is of use only if it is absolutely truthful.

The muckrakers themselves proudly adopted the label.[19]

The term eventually came to be used in reference to investigative journalists[citation needed] who reported about and exposed issues such as crime, fraud, waste, public health and safety, graft, illegal financial practices. A muckraker's reporting may span businesses and government."

O'Reilly V. RoveMay 22, 2014
The thread below went way off topic. Our veterans need to be kept in the forefront and treated with dignity. We all know the problems with the VA didn't start overnight. They've been brewing for decades. The issue at hand now is how will the problems be fixed and when? One of things I heard that made the most sense to me was to let the vets seek fee-for-service medical care NOW. The VA has a backlog. Okay, fix that, but in the meantime, let the vets seek care elsewhere and have those ...

I hope with everything I have in me that the Tea Party does not represent the Republican Party. This is what the Tea Party stands for. They are full of vitriole and hatred. This is not what the Republican party stands for.
