O'Reilly v. Rove

Posted: May 22, 2014

The thread below went way off topic. Our veterans need to be kept in the forefront and treated with dignity. We all know the problems with the VA didn't start overnight. They've been brewing for decades. The issue at hand now is how will the problems be fixed and when?

One of things I heard that made the most sense to me was to let the vets seek fee-for-service medical care NOW. The VA has a backlog. Okay, fix that, but in the meantime, let the vets seek care elsewhere and have those practitioners reimbursed by the VA. It sounds simple to me. Don't punish the vets by making them wait any longer.

The current sitting president is the one responsible NOW, today! We've seen an apparently well-meaning president say a lot, but not do a lot. It's time for him to do something now! He can use his pen to enact the above fee-for-service medical care for veterans.

;

Mostly agree but you are incorrect about O - 'not doing a lot'

[ In Reply To ..]
You "appear" to be fair so I'll encourage you to check further -Obama has done quite a bit on this issue.

Otherwise, your post makes a GREAT point: Work on the backlog, but send them to the front of the line! now!!

THIS should be a issue we ALL have in common - IF WE REALLY CARE about the soldiers in question let's dispense with the CHILDISH finger pointing and support BIPARTISAN EFFORTS to fix the VA issues once and for all.

Excellent post. Couldn't agree more. - nm

No, O has not done a lot... - sm

...or "quite a bit" as you state on this issue or any other issue that doesn't advance HIS agenda.

One more thing, his community organizer experience did not serve him well because he doesn't know how to select good cabinet members. There are just too many scandals.

I thought the Republicans were so concerned - sm

about the deficit. President Obama has cut that by a LOT! (See link provided below.)

But that doesn't count, right?

How many posts have I seen on this board about the president being a dictator when he uses his pen. When he and his advisors have deemed that he has a constitutional right to issue a directive for a particular item, there are cries for impeachment. He's not following the law, he ignores the constitution, blah blah blah. So, now you're giving him permission?

NK, you surprise me. - NPC

When I saw your moniker, I was looking forward to reading your words. To me, you have seemed like one of the voices of calm and reason on this board. Disappointed with what you have written, I guess I would have thought that you would have rallied with this post because it is written about a serious nonpartisan problem that needs serious nonpartisan support for the common good of our veterans. My mention of "the pen" is because it will take an executive order to get this fee-for-service medical care enacted immediately.

Yes and look at the logic of the suggestion - here

[ In Reply To ..]
IF the president (any president) is going to sign an executive order, would this NOT be the ideal time to issue such an order?

The whiners on the board about him 'wearing out' his exec pen are just that whining, just one more way they can try to make this president look evil or corrupt or whatever.

All presidents sign exec orders. THAT is the branch the represent. and the VA issue is something all patriots should support when it comes to expeditious processes to help blunt the damage already done.

you can't have it both ways - NK

[ In Reply To ..]
I stand by what I said. Perhaps you aren't aware that the president has signed at least 2 executive orders regarding the VA, despite people on this board posting that he has done nothing but talk. Perhaps Congress should get off their duffs and act in a nonpartisan way and do something other than block bills to help veterans that they ordinarily would vote for. Perhaps private medical facilities and their staffs should stop worrying about their profit margin and step up and offer assistance to veterans. Perhaps if the US hadn't gotten into the mess in Iraq for the proffered purpose of looking for nonexistent WMDs there wouldn't be so many veterans flooding the VA system trying to get well-deserved help.
No time to point fingers and blame. - NPC
[ In Reply To ..]
The issue at hand is a crisis that needs immediate action. That is the point of my post, not blaming, not inflaming. I learned something here. Thanks for your time.
While it sounds reasonable, - NK
[ In Reply To ..]
your idea of an EO to take care of the crisis is a bit simplistic for it to work as an immediate solution. Things just don't work that way. Particularly since the current focus of Congress is the firing/resignation of Secretary Shinseki rather than a plan to alleviate the situation that veterans find themselves in.
It's a shame... - sm
[ In Reply To ..]
Because of ineptitude in naming certain cabinet posts, others have had to pay the price, some ultimately. Too many scandals.

P.S. The "focus" of congress has nothing to do with the president's ability to issue an EO.
P.P.S. - NK
[ In Reply To ..]
The "focus" of Congress has everything to do with actions they could take now in regard to the VA system rather than wasting time debating the employment status of Secy. Shinseki.
Not if the president uses his power without Congress. - sm
[ In Reply To ..]
He's already demonstrated that he knows how to use it. Let's see him put it to good use for once.
Congress holds the purse strings. - nm

Not for EOs. - sm
[ In Reply To ..]
And this is one time he should use an EO to prove he truly does care about the veterans and to keep the promises he made during his 2007 campaign, which are all over the Internet for those who don't believe those promises made and not kept.
Curious - NK
[ In Reply To ..]
Since you seem to have the answers, what exactly do you think this EO should encompass? And how will it accomplish that?
It's a moot point now. YAY!! - See link.

Before it was all said and done, Shinseki was proven to have been right all along!

on this board. What she did was point out the sheer hypocrisy of complaints when he DOES do it and then complaints when he DOESN'T do it, meaning that this President can never do anything right in the eyes of some people.

I liked her post.
He can't do anything right. - History will prove it.

I was channel surfing last night and clicked on to Fox when Bill O'Reilly's show was on. I really don't care for him or his show, but I don't want him to be sick, either. Has anyone else noticed a change in his appearance, or is it just me? Just curious. ...

After watching that interview, I can only say Bill O'Reilly and FOX must be feeling pretty darn good right about now. To think that they hold such sway over America and her people. That's quite the accomplishment! At the same time, it's an elitist insult to Americans. To think that we can't make up our own minds and need FOX news to do it for us. That disgusts me.
