H1N1 vaccine

Posted: Apr 14, 2010

Have most people received the H1N1 vaccine.  I was wondering opinions on whether I should get it for my family.  I live in GA where they said there is a high occurence of it now and I actually know someone in the hospital with swine flu who is in a coma.

H1N1 - anon

I live in GA too (Atlanta metro), and I will not be getting this, nor will my family. We do not get the regular flu shots either. The school really pushed it at the beginning of the year, but to my knowledge, no one at school ever got the H1N1 flu.

Knock on wood, no one in my family has had any form of the flu in at least 10 years. I attribute a lot of it to me being a handwashing nazi with my kids and husband. I have a lot of friends who get the seasonal flu shot, and not surprisingly, they are sick off and on most of the winter with colds and such. Hmmm? I really wonder if all these shots actually make us more suspectible to other viruses and bacterial illnesses and lower our immunity in some way. Anyway....I don't know anyone who has ever had the H1N1 flu, so I may feel differently if I was in your shoes. However, for now, no shots for any of us.

I work at a hospital, so yes.....s/m - ncmt

In my opinion, H1N1 is the biggest hoax since Y2K. Thousands of people die from the regular flu every year. Like I said, just my opinion. We had to get it, and I had no ill effects.

I haven't had one, but my daughter took one through - school and had no problems with it. NM

I saw a piece on the Today Show - just me

a while back about the possible, but rare, adverse reactions. Apparently, several adolescents had adverse neurological reactions to it, including Guillian-Barre syndrome. One was even paralyzed. Let me say again that the doctor on this piece said these types of severe adverse reactions were rare, like 1 in hundreds of thousands. Milder reactions included headache, nausea, temporary muscle weakness, etc.

After seeing this, I revoked my consents for my kids to receive this vaccine at school. I just couldn't bare the thought of something happening to my child because I consented to this. My one child has had adverse (though mild) reactions to his regular childhood vaccines, and it would be our luck, he'd have a reaction to this one. Neither my husband nor I got the H1N1 vaccine and we both work in a correctional facility where infections run high. No one in our family got the swine flu (although I had some sort of flu that lasted about 3 days -- thought I was dying).

I don't think the benefits outweigh the risks. Furthermore, I believe that most people who get the "swine flu" survive if treated promptly. Ultimately, though, it's your decision.

Recall Of H1N1 Vaccine In Canada Causing Allergic Reactions.Nov 24, 2009
http://abcnews.go.com/Health/wireStory?id=9164033 I have read a "few" reports that this H1N1 flu was a conspiracy (lab made) which would then cause to give the vaccine in order to try and kill as many people as possible because we do not need an over populated world and it would then try and cause a one world order.    Also read reports where the flu is mutating.  Tamiflu resistant in some patients and Ukraine and Iowa are having problems where they are seeing patients with bla ...

H1N1 ReactionsDec 14, 2009
Does anyone know of someone who got the H1N1 vaccine and had a serious reaction to it?  A few months ago, our school sent home a form for parents to fill out if they wanted their child to receive the H1N1 vaccine through the school if/when they got the vaccine.  At the time, I decided to have them get it.  I filled out the form and sent it in, but I've been thinking a lot about it since then.  There have been more reports of serious reactions to it, including some pretty ...

Free Shingles Vaccine From MerckJan 30, 2013
Having heard how painful shingles is, I was really grateful to get my vaccine recently for free through the Merck Vaccine Patient Assistance Program.  I could not afford it out-of-pocket.  It can run as high as $250.  I know people who have had shingles and are now experiencing postherpetic neuralgia years out.  No, THANK YOU!  Just wanted to pass the information along to anyone who is interested in getting the vaccine, but does not have insurance. ...
