Rand Paul: SCOTUS doesn't get to decide

Posted: Jun 28, 2012

The exact quote is, “Just because a couple of people on the Supreme Court declare something to be 'constitutional' does not make it so."  OMG.  Is this the best the TP has to offer?  Is this the same Tea Party whose platform is founded on the principle that, "The U.S. Constitution is the supreme law of the land and must be adhered to without exception at all levels of government?"  One has to wonder if he has ever read it.

Then he said, "The Tea Party will rise again."  When did it fall down?  Did I miss something?

It doesn't get more idiotic than that, but Rand's close contender is self-appointed savior Mitt Romney, who thinks he knows better than the POTUS, SCOTUS, the reps who passed it and the 69,456,897 voters who put the plan's architect in the White House.  Then again, there's US Rep Mike Pence R-IND, who compared the ruling to 9/11.

Preposterous politicians behaving badly.

;

I'm wondering what kind of idiotic things would have come out of - Nancy Pelosi's mouth

[ In Reply To ..]
had the vote gone the other way. It's easy for you to be critical because your side won this battle - but I guarantee you, the war is not over.

Well, she's had plenty of time to come out and say - the same about SM

[ In Reply To ..]
SCOTUS regarding Citizens United. Do you think maybe she is intelligent enough to know that saying such a thing makes you look like an idiot? There are quite a few people whose lives will be saved by this law, plenty of people who will now not go backrupt from a serious medical issue, and once these democrats get out there and do a better job explaining how it works, many more will be grateful for this law. I know it is not going to be easy, there are going to be a lot of twists and turns figuring this out, but in the end this health care law will be a positive thing for most of the citizens in this country. I know it will help me and it will go a long way to help my daughter. I am frankly tired of the lies and half truths about this, coming from either politicians who know better or from constituents who don't take the time to read the law and educate themselves about it. Nothing is perfect, of course, but this will help many people in this country.

No, frankly, I don't think she's - intelligent enough.

[ In Reply To ..]
In fact, I don't think she's intelligent at all. She's a lying cheat just like the rest of them - she went on about the commerce clause and that it's not a tax. Turns out she was wrong. The fact is the country was lied to and that it may or may not help people doesn't make it right.
She had enough savvy to push ACA clean past - the GOP brick wall of obstruction

and get it signed into law, a feat all previous speakers could only dream about.

Producers of Apprentice would have us believe Mr. Cut-Above-the-Rest is an expert when it come to recognizing excellence, with a particularly keen eye for superior negotiating skills. He certainly seems to think he is. So do his loyal fans. Personally, I think he's an idiot but I have to admit, once in a blue moon he's right on target, and I am forced to reluctantly agree with him.
So..you got a ppoint in here somewhere - ??

Yep. - My point is that

even one of the most self-centered, vain and conceited conservatives in modern history is humbled by Pelosi's awesomeness, to such an extent that he is willing to openly admit it. I think that's remarkable.
THIS POST IS HYSTERICAL ABOUT PELOSI - Y'ALL GOT TO READ THIS DELUSIONAL

This is not a "point", this is part of a comedy routine or skit. Even the most "elf-centered, vain and conceited" liberals in "modern history" can recognize Princess Pelosi for the lying scumbag she is.

These sentiments would be more appropriate if they were aimed at The Donald. He's the one who thinks Nancy Pelosi is "the best." Attacking someone for saying so is uncalled for. The statements this post targets seem pretty cool, calm and collected. The ones that assume the all-caps screeching format, ranting and railing about how hysterical other posts are? Not so much.

Nancy Pelosi is an immensely successful female politician who has received tons of recognition, honors and awards over the course of her career. It would take more time than I have to research and list them all, but off the top of my head, I do recall a few: Honorary Doctorate Degree in Humane letters from Johns Hopkins; American Legion Unsung Hero, not exactly a bastion of liberal democrats; numerous awards from state and national women’s organizations; recognition for advocacy of human rights, the performing arts, community service, scientific research, education, and seniors; achievement awards for political leadership, government service, and mentoring programs for students and women.

It's a real pity an accomplished woman who raised 5 kids, then served our country for 25 years evokes such contempt. It is reminiscent of the relentless attacks the cons launch against Clintons, who enjoy similar successes and recognition, both nationally and globally. IMO, at least part of this deep hatred for Nancy Pelosi stems from the ease with which she upstaged the GOP's own ethically-challenged firebrand SOH (Newt), who went down in flames when he was forced to resign.
Point - oldone

And at the bottom of these replies...a Yankee hates the South. When will we ever learn? We all belong to the USA...or sorry, that post said US of A. Anyway, the USA is in trouble now. Not just the north, not just the south...all of us. So much trouble...

Way to go Ron Paul - Voice of logic - sm

[ In Reply To ..]
Ron Paul is the man. He understands and knows the constitution. He is exactly correct. Just because someone declare something to be constitutional does not make it so. The constitution is very clear on what is and what isn't. You have left winger people deciding and twisting it the way they want it. They know its unconstitutional. Just because someone says something doesn't make it so.

Go Ron Paul. Looking for exciting things to happen.

As for the tea party. Yes, you did miss something. But don't think you'll understand it anyway, or rather don't want to.

Correction. It's Rand, not Ron. Now, about that - inconvenient truth,

[ In Reply To ..]
the notion that we are a nation of laws, and that the Supreme Court, whose sole purpose for existence is to uphold the Constitution, is its ULTIMATE authority. Can you point me to the clause wherein partisans are vested with the inalienable right to selectively defy the laws they hate, and to strip SCOTUS judges of their powers?

That the teapot's golden boy has made an utter fool of himself needs no further explanation or clarification. That the mantle of self-annointed savior (ie the "Chosen One") has been claimed by candidate Romney is self evident. That the anger Mike Pence harbors, as demonstrated by his senseless hyperbole, has reduced him to an incoherent blithering, babbling embarrassment to his own party is undeniabe.

This is not rocket science. What's not to get?

Oops, meant Rand, not Ron - Voice of logic

[ In Reply To ..]
My message remains the same. I stand by Ron Paul and his son too. Good to know he taught his son right.

complete and utter idiocy - yellow dog

[ In Reply To ..]
It is deeply shocking that an American above the age of 12 is so profoundly *** about the most basic law of our country, i. e., that the Constitution is the foundation of all our laws and that the decision about what is and is not constitutional lies solely within the power of the Supreme Court. Gee, I bet that's why it's called the "supreme" court, ya think? There is no higher appeal - the buck stops there.

My god, you even believe that the "constitution is very clear on what is and what isn't [constitutional]." I guess all that legal scholarship, years of experience, and sophisticated arguments between attorneys and the Court and among the justices themselves about how to correctly interpret the Constitution are just for show, right?

Rand Paul Is Wrong. What Trump Did Is Distinctly NOTApr 08, 2017
More than 125 times in our history, Presidents (including in recent times Reagan, Clinton, Bush, Obama and Trump) have taken military actions without the approval of Congress.  Obama is an interesting case in point.  He sought approval from Congress to launch attacks in Libya, failed to get it and then launched the attacks anyway, arguing that he had the Constitutional and legal authority to do so (which he did).  Two years later, after the chemical attacks in Syria, Obama's ...
