Radioactive plume in South Carolina

Posted: Jan 17, 2014

Just in the last few weeks an oil train blew up in North Dakota, a toxic chemical spill poisoned the water of over 300,000 people in West Virginia (and is still spreading), and who can forget BP oil pouring oil in the Gulf a few years ago, and now this, but what did Republican leader Boehner recently say? âI am entirely confident that there are ample regulations already on the books to protect the health and safety of the American people. Somebody ought to be held accountable here. What we try to do is look at those regulations that we think are cumbersome, are over the top, and that are costing our economy jobs. Thatâs where our focus continues to be.â Boehner's House has quite the record--in 2013: House Republicans voted: ⢠51 times in favor of the interests of the oil and gas industry including fast-tracking pipeline construction and putting up obstacles to developing cleaner alternatives to oil. ⢠37 times to weaken the Clean Water Act and to block funding to implement the National Ocean Policy. ⢠27 times to cut spending on clean energy and energy efficiency. ⢠20 times to weaken the Clean Air Act. ⢠20 times against efforts to curb carbon pollution. If that isn't enough, House Republicans appointed Rep. David Schweikert (R-Ariz.), who is a climate change denier, to head the Science Committee's environment subcommittee. Way to go. ;

What does Boehner have to do with this? - Isn't it a state issue?

[ In Reply To ..]
Why is this not being covered by major media outlets and only underground journalism?

that is odd, isn't it? - sm

Perhaps because this area is used to living with nuclear risk? The other 2 stories have had major coverage (West Virginia and North Dakota). As far as it being a state or federal issue: From looking at a map, this South Carolina site is 25 miles from Augusta, Georgia. If I was a Georgia resident, I would be concerned. The West Virginia contaminated water has made it into the Ohio River and apparently the people of Cincinnati may be affected. The train blowing up in North Dakota was near the Minnesota border sending toxic smoke over the area.

Boehner and his Republican cronies are always trying to defund the agencies that are supposed to be monitoring for environmental disasters. Much of the State money is supplemented by Federal money.

Great beaches and great peaches! Just thinking today, how fortunate I am to live just one state *north* of SC (as I sliced and diced my way through a $6 half bushel of perfectly ripe and juicy peaches, shipped just up the road). My account is a hospital where I get reports about "blueberry workers," which I had never heard of. We have to pay some serious money for blueberries down here, but I imagine "up there" they are plentiful and cheap. The cheapest I have seen here recen ...

South Carolina Will Become First State To Jan 24, 2014
My state has spent over $300 million of state taxes and only 44 have signed up for AHC.  It is not working in our state. We sure could have used $300 million to help the homeless or redo our severely crippled bridges, but noooooo, we had to spend it on ridiculous useless crap to get 44 people signed up and those people's deductibles are so high that they are still paying out of pocket for their care.  ...

"Tea Party" Senator Jim Demint Of South Carolina ResigningDec 06, 2012
Wall Street Journal: "Mr. DeMint, the South Carolina junior senator, had said he wouldn't run for another term in 2016, but his announcement Thursday was a surprise. Mr. DeMint is a tea-party icon who has long argued that GOP leaders have pursued compromise at the expense of ideals." "J.V Team" Has Stolen Enough Radioactive MaterialJun 11, 2015
But let's keep underestimating them! As ISIS militants behead their way across the Middle East they’re not just murdering and raping. They’re also pillaging. Their plunder includes human slaves, massive amounts of global cash, US military equipment that we gave to Iraqi forces, and basically anything they want that isn’t nailed down or forbidden by their archaic religion. Sadly, that includes a whole lot of radioactive material. So far, they haven’t managed to get their hand ...
