North Carolina

Posted: Jul 11, 2011

We're planning on heading down to North Carolina in a few weeks to look at some colleges there and along the way.  We've been to SC, but never North.  We wanted to stay in Charlotte.  Can anyone suggest a good reasonably priced hotel.  Also, my husband is worried that the kids are going to get bored.  The youngest is 8 and my oldest is 17.  Any ideas.  We were thinking water parks, amusement parks, etc.  Thanks for any suggestions you can give me.

Great amusement park. Been there many times. I think they have a water park attached to it, maybe all-in-one price? If you have time to drive up into the mountains near Asheville or on the Blue Ridge Parkway, Mt. Mitchell, it is beautiful there!

University area in Charlotte - Tasha

The university area in Charlotte is nice. It is right off I-85. You have Extended Stay America, Residence Inn Charlotte University, Comfort Suites, Holiday Inn, Hilton, and Super 8. This is in very close proximity (walking distance) to restaurants and UNC Charlotte is also in the area. You are only a few minutes away from Concord Mills, which would be entertaining for the kids and Lowe's Motor Speedway. Carowinds is also in Charlotte off of I-77, which would be loads of fun for the kids. There is a bowling alley close to the university area and also a movie theater at Concord Mills as well as in the university area. I hope this helps.

Beautiful drive from Charlotte about 2-3 hours. Go through the mountains and Asheville is a terrific town. The Biltmore is beautiful this time of year with all the gardens. (my sister lived in Charlotte for years so I did most of the tourist stuff when I visited there)

Thank you everyone - NC - LinK

Great beaches and great peaches! Just thinking today, how fortunate I am to live just one state *north* of SC (as I sliced and diced my way through a $6 half bushel of perfectly ripe and juicy peaches, shipped just up the road). My account is a hospital where I get reports about "blueberry workers," which I had never heard of. We have to pay some serious money for blueberries down here, but I imagine "up there" they are plentiful and cheap. The cheapest I have seen here recen ...

South Carolina Will Become First State To Jan 24, 2014
My state has spent over $300 million of state taxes and only 44 have signed up for AHC.  It is not working in our state. We sure could have used $300 million to help the homeless or redo our severely crippled bridges, but noooooo, we had to spend it on ridiculous useless crap to get 44 people signed up and those people's deductibles are so high that they are still paying out of pocket for their care.  ...

How Thanksgiving Dinner Differs From North To South...Nov 10, 2009
I live in the south.  How does Thanksgiving dinner differ from the northern states to the sourthern ones?  From east to west?  Here in the south we have the usual turkey like everyone does.  We have the cornbread dressing (stuffing), chicken and dumplings, veggies, no steamed ones though, we don't eat much steamed veggies around here.  They are boiled with meat seasoning such as bacon or ham, etc.  We have the broccoli casserole.  We also have baked ham.& ...
