One out of four Republicans think violence against the government is justified

Posted: Jan 12, 2011

Twenty-eight percent of Republicans said such violence against the government can be justified according to a CBS poll.  Why is this attitude so much more prevalent in the Republican party?

Stop with the stupid divisive nonsense. - We don't know the sampling

[ In Reply To ..]
and unless they go into voter records and see how someone is registered before they poll them this doesn't hold water. Where is a similar poll of Democrats? What is their percentage?

Weather Underground was a leftist group, not Republican. Your President's buddy started that little group. All that violence in the streets in the 60's? Again...the left. NOT Republicans.

What do you hope to accomplish by this? Republicans put on cattle cars and shipped off to the ovens? It is people like you with crap like this that gets the far left likened to the Nazis.

What IS your purpose in posting this? What do you hope to achieve??

a little over the top, yes? - read me

[ In Reply To ..]
You talk about divisiveness, then you raise the metaphor of being shipped off to the ovens??

You really just shot yourself in the foot.

That is not over the top. How does one group of... - people start hating another

[ In Reply To ..]
group of people to the point that anything is acceptable? Do you think Hitler preach its all the Jews' fault right out of the box? No, he didn't. Its insidious. Just like this rush to judgment was. Blaming an entire "party" or person for something without a shred of proof. Much like the Nazis ended up blaming Jews.

You think it couldn't happen here? Do you think rank and file German people EVER thought it could happen there?

Why not just STOP the nonsense? There was no reason to post that poll other than to further divide the country and THAT is what is starting to make we in the middle between the Dems and Pubs, left and right, liberal and conservative start looking at the left and wondering what in the world are you people talking about?? And why you can't seem to let it go. It sounds like fanaticism at its worst, and displaying the same kind of behavior they accuse others of...and cannot even SEE it.

Now do you know why I, as an Independent, would not want that kind of mentality running this country?

Well, no, you probably don't.

It is not my foot that has been shot. I think the 2012 election will be worse than the midterms because the left did not get it. The middle of the political spectum said very clearly don't point fingers at the other guy, and what happened after this election has sent a clear message.

The left looks very, very bad in this. Very bad, to those of us who do not put party before country and ideology before our fellow Americans.

you missed the point - not surprisingly
[ In Reply To ..]
Someone needs to talk you down before you hurt yourself.

You don't know my politics, so the assumptions you make about me only serve to prove my point - you are not paying attention.

You need not call me out - I am not interested in polarizing one party against another.

You, by way of contrast, continue to fan the flames with your divisive, hyperbolic talk.

Case in point: no one party has cornered the market on stupidity or violence.
You also missed the point....are are just blind to it.... - not surprisingly.
[ In Reply To ..]
You tell ME why the left continue in the media and on this board to go after Republicans, Palin, tea party et al like a pack when it has been long since proven that is not the case. You tell ME how we got to a point in this country that a sheriff, a law enforcement officer, because he had all the facts stated it was politically motivated and started laying blame. Law enforcement who are supposed to be impartial.

Perhaps that is not concerning to you; obviously it is not. What do YOU think the purpose of the post was? It certainly was not to unite people. It is that kind of rhetoric, worse than the "violent" rhetoric because it is insidious. That is what makes neighbors start looking at neighbors like enemies and mistrusting someone immediately because they happen to register one way or the other to vote. That is how seeds of hate are placed and they grow.

Okay, if I don't know your politics, please share. If I assumed you were liberal left, please enlighten me.

If there was a valid purpose for that post other than to divide, please let me know what that was.

And try to make one post without a condescending remark or use of the word hyperbole or forms thereof. If you can, of course.

It was posted on the CBS web site. Why do you hate facts so much? - nm
[ In Reply To ..]
It was a poll....a poll is not fact. Where did they - poll? How many did they
[ In Reply To ..]
poll? Did they verify names and voter registration? This is exactly what I am talking about. You are willing to take at face value by a CBS poll that 28% of ALL Republicans are for violence against the government? How do we know what "certain situations" were given to the people?

You prove my point. The left is quick to rush to judgment, blame an entire party for something without a shred of evidence, and take a CBS poll for "truth," therein putting your political ideology above a fair shake to thousands of fellow Americans and putting your party before your country.

Thank you for proving it to someone in the middle yet again.

And you wonder why I would not want someone with your mindset running this country?
you bring up ovens and nazis, and tell ME not to use the word - hyperbole??
[ In Reply To ..]
You are dangerously close to the edge.

I did not post the survey.

Check your own posts for condescending remarks (to quote you) "if you can, of couse".

You can dish it out, but you sure can't take it. - talk about dangerously
[ In Reply To ..]
close to the edge.

I know you did not post the survey. I asked you what the purpose of it could be other than to divide. You refuse to answer.

As to condescending, I replied in the saem way you replied to me. You keep it civil and not condescending, and you will get the same from me.

I did not tell you NOT to use hyperbole, I just asked if you could post without using it.

I repeat...why would someone post that poll if not to be further divisive?
I was wondering if someone could make a coherent argument - when is it appropriate to advocate violence
[ In Reply To ..]
I do not understand why roughly a fourth of Republicans think it is okay. It is totally something I cannot understand.
I do not understand why you take as truth a poll - on a left leaning TV station
[ In Reply To ..]
that says 28% of all Republicans think it is okay. That is totally something I cannot understand. Do you think they verified names and voter rolls to make sure they were talking to registered Republicans? How many people did they talk to? What parts of the country? What questions did they ask?

Are you SERIOUS with this?? Really???
Has there been one TPr who has condemned the trash talk? - It seems none will admit it is wrong
[ In Reply To ..]
All they seem to do is take down their web sites.
Is there one liberal/Democrat who has apologized - for their rush to judgment?
[ In Reply To ..]
Is Manchin going to apologize for his loading rifle ad? All he did was stop running it. Is the SEIU going to apologize for beating people down at polling places during the election? Is moveon.org going to apologize for their operative who bit the finger off the guy in a fight over the healthcare thing?

All the left seems to do is throw rocks at the other guy without cleaning their own house.

Is DailyKos going to apologize for the hatred on their site? Is Olbermann going to apologize for his rush to judgment? Or Matthews?

Can we PLEASE stop pointing fingers at our fellow Americans like they were our enemies?
Would it really make a difference? - sm
[ In Reply To ..]
It seems to me that no matter what those on the right say or don't say...the left and the media seem to have already passed judgment on them.

I recall that after the Ft. Hood shooting that we were all told to not judge because there wasn't enough information.

However, a deranged man registered as an independent and left leaning in his beliefs goes on a shooting rampage and the media and the left instantly pins the blame on the right. Talk about your double standards. How can you blame the right when a left leaning independent shoots a democrat? That doesn't even make sense.

As for your comment about the tea party, etc. not speaking out against this...I don't know what channels or news coverage you have been reading/watching..but I've heard republicans over and over again talk about how horrible the AZ shooting was and how wrong it was. What more do you want? Do you want a signed affidavit with signatures in blood?

I'm just curious... - Zville MT

[ In Reply To ..]
There's a lot of hate on this board, from both sides. Let's just say that I get on here and I read a particularly vicious post about, let's say, Sarah Palin.

Now let's say that I'm mentally unstable. I get a gun and I shoot Sarah Palin. Would the author of that post be responsible for my actions? Would the democratic party be responsible for my actions? Would MoveOn.org be responsible for my actions? Or would I alone be responsible for my actions?

I would hope that all would have denounced any call for violence. - sm

[ In Reply To ..]
I believe the actual shooter is responsible, but if someone was using words or imagery to insinuate that killing is appropriate, they should be denounced. People suggesting violence to the public are irresponsible and should be called out, especially by their own group, whether it be a party or a bowling team. If they ignore the warning, they should be ostracized not glamourized.

So because both sides use those words and imagery - Zville MT

[ In Reply To ..]
everyone should be ostracized?

Okay. Obama said, during the mid-terms to - rally his base, "we

[ In Reply To ..]
are in a gunfight." That is not a picture, that is words right out of his mouth. So, if some wingnut who happens to think Obama's word is the be all end all and goes to a tea party gathering and kills everybody there, could we come on her blaming Obama for inflammatory rhetoric that caused the deaths of all those people?

If a geographical symbol on a map that "looks like crosshairs" and "insinuate that killing is appropriate" and a Dem map that had actual bull's eye targets on them, then by what you are saying, the Dems and The tea partiers should be ostracized? Absolutely NO ONE on the left is talking about their own violent imagery or rush to judgment.

Case of do as I say, not as I do?

51% of Democrats think it was political.
51% of Democrats think politics influence Loughner.

45% of Democrats think shootings like this will happen again.

BTW, this survey was taken by telephone and a total of 673 people responded. I don't think that's a fair assessment. That's not even 1/4 of the population of the USA.

Total Republicans unweighted: 182
Total Republicans weighted: 176

Total Democrats unweighted: 259
Total Democrats weighted: 239

So, your point? - Btw

[ In Reply To ..]
There was a very nice post awhile back about how polls were conducted. Perhaps you could look up sometime. I think this poll is fairly in line because it agrees with other polls I have seen of a similar philosophy. I believe there was one that said about 1/4 of the Republicans thought Obama is a Muslim and/or born in Kenya. Crazy, isn't it?

I made my point in my post. Did you read it or did you skip over it? (nm) - Backwards Typist
