Obama

Posted: Aug 26, 2011

You know.. really.. the guy didn't stand a chance.  I've heard from seemingly normal folks that he was:

1.  The anti-Christ.

2.  A Muslim from Kenya.

3.  The birth certificate.

4.  He's going to turn the good ol' US of A into a Socialist country.

5.  He'll take away our guns.

The  only thing wrong with Obama is that he hasn't stood up to the republicans.  The fella needs a little bit of the ol' Cheney (who gives a damn what anyone else thinks) in his personality.  IMHO, he tried to "reach across the aisle."  I used to think that might actually be possible, but apparently it isn't.

As far as Socialism is concerned, I don't see why we can't borrow a TINY BIT of Socialism when it comes to health care.  I believe I've said before that I don't believe health care should be a political issue; it's a human issue.  But dare suggest anything other than pure Capitalism, and you're immediately met with "SOCIALIST, IT WON'T WORK!  WHY DON'T YOU MOVE, EVIL LIBERAL, AND YOU'RE PROBABLY AN ATHEIST, TOO!"  (And I'm far from an atheist). LoL.  You'd think we'd have some great minds in this country who could figure out how to have affordable health care accessible to everyone.  So where are they?

If we had been a reasonable people, we could have just looked at other country's health care systems and used those ideas to design our own health care system that would be accessible to everyone, and would not bankrupt anyone.

Our health care system that will begin in 2014 will be the compromise that President Obama thought would be wise, given the extreme right and extreme left positions. It is a start. Civil rights, women's rights, etc., did not happen overnight.

As far as President Obama goes, I think the expections of the citizens for Obama correcting all the mistakes of the past were vastly inflated. If the president were to operate as many wish, the opposition would say he was a dictator. (Case example--Affordable Health Care Act passed by Congress, and still refuted.) I would prefer we NOT go back to the Bush days of "your with us or against us", "outing" of whistleblowers like Valerie Plame, the loading of the courts, and corporate-agenda politics.

Many people do not understand that the President's role is to forge compromises and make deals with the future of the country at heart. (Not short-term political wins and what is good for any one group right now.) Unfortunately, he has had to work with the Republican House and a non-super majority Senate. Hopefully, the extreme right-wing Republicans will be voted out in the next election and more reasonable people elected in their place.

Two of the best, intelligent and reasonable - posts I've ever read on here. sm

Just when I was wondering if there is anyone reasonable left, you two have shown that there ARE such people, and I hope they represent the majority of people, which I want to believe they do.

Thank you both for restoring my faith in humanity.

He is still a failure. He has already added more to the national debt in less than 3 years than Bush did in 8. He signed an 800 billion stimulus bill that basically gave money to his allies to waste. Last I heard, over $200,000.00 per job created with no relief in unemployment. He and his wife give lavish WH parties most days when they are not on the road campaigning or vacationing. The only bill that I know of that he EVER sent to congress was his budget plan this year that the senate voted down 97-1 ... not one DEM voted for it.
When times are tough do you pull out all the credit cards and expect taxpayers to pick up the tab and buy everything you want and don't want?
40% plus of what the government is spending is borrowed. We and our kids are gonna end up with no money to spend when the world quits loaning and we pay pay pay.

Obama and the democrats - sm

had control until more republicans were voted for in 2010. If Obama is so great and he has all the answers to save our country, why didn't they do much when they had total control? This whole...he can't do anything because of uncompromising republicans BS is just that...BS. Obama and the democrats had the control and they dropped the ball.

And as for reaching across the aisle...a man who gives a speech and tells republicans their bill is DOA and in the same sentence tells the republicans THEY need to compromise...doesn't seem like a person willing to compromise himself. Obama's idea of compromising is for people to give in and let him have his way.

Our country is suffering. People are out of work. This president has done very little if anything to help us. Bush's administration started this downward spiral, but you cannot dispute the fact that unemployment is higher and the debt is higher under Obama.

You both have stated the obvious facts without making it personal. I wish more people would see things the way they are. In fact just was telling my DH if we can see what is going on, why is it that so many can't.

would do to change the unemployment problem. I already know the plan for our debt - cut social programs and anything that serves to help those in need, "reinvent" social security, etc. Unemployment though, what can be done? I believe the answer lies in stopping offshoring, but that will never change. Corporations are taking over our country and, at this point, does it really matter who is in charge as far as the jobs problem we have? The rich continue to benefit. IMO, those against Obama have made it a mission to block anything that might help the middle class, and are determined to have nothing change so Obama can be blamed. Seriously, what is voting republican going to do to help the middle class? Nothing. It will continue to get worse. JMO

Exactly. Obama loves class warfare and dividing the nation - It is truly sickening. nm

It isn't unreasonable to expect that this country should be able to provide affordable health care for every human being living here, and I stand by my previous post.

Obama was handed an unholy mess, but he has disappointed me in several ways. However, I still say he never stood a chance. Too many otherwise seemingly logical people had the be-Jesus scared out of them because of the reasons I stated in my first post. I wondered then and still do wonder if folks really thought the republicans AND the dems would actually allow someone who wasn't even a citizen of the country to become president or even make a run for prez.

Many call Obama a failure, and I don't expect anything any different considering the strange broo-haha that surrounded his candidacy. It wouldn't matter what he did or didn't do. He never stood a chance with the people who had that "Kenyan, Muslim," "where's the birth certificate," "he's going to take our guns" mindset. I know it, and you know it, too. This craziness continuously fueled by people like Limbaugh, Malkin, Beck, Coulter, Ingraham, etc., was perpetuated because it boosted their ratings, and some lapped it up.

"He didn't wear a flag pin." "He didn't face the flag." And on and on and the final "He's the anti-Christ" is just one of the greatest examples of things that make you go "hmmmmmmmm."

I don't like the job our president - sm

[ In Reply To ..]
is doing and it has nothing to do with the things you listed originally. I just don't see what is so hard for some of you to understand that many of us just do not like big government. In my opinion, government is generally the problem, not the solution. Everyday it seems like the government is encroaching more and more in our personal and daily lives and I don't like it.

I'm one of the few conservatives who doesn't really have a problem with raising taxes a bit. We could very easily go back to like taxes were during the Clinton administration. However, that won't solve our problem because this president obviously has a spending problem. Even if we raise taxes and/or just raise taxes on the rich, that will just give this administration an excuse to spend more and right now spending more, IMO, isn't the answer. Our deficit is a huge problem and Obama himself promised to cut our deficit...and yet he has done nothing but add to it. As a senator he also said that raising the debt ceiling was a sign of poor leadership. As president he had no problem with raising the debt ceiling. He gave himself 3 years to make things better and unemployment and our deficit are both higher...not lower.

As many promises as our president has broken and as many goals as he set for himself while running for president and has failed to reach as president...I'm amazed that so many of you praise him like you do.

So vote for Perry or Bachman and see where that - takes you. nm

What do you think he would be doing differently - if he were in Obama's shoes? nm

What would Santorum do? - sm
[ In Reply To ..]
First of all he already has a job creation plan.

Santorum job-creation plan proposes the following approach:

 Reducing the size and scope of a government that is stifling job creation . This includes cutting government spending, capping future government spending, and enacted a balanced budget amendment to the Constitution.

 Creating a tax structure that encourages innovative and entrepreneurship. He proposes cutting individual taxes, while slashing the corporate tax rate in half. For manufacturers, the corporate tax rate should be reduced to zero to keep jobs in America. He also favors permanently extending current capital gains and dividend tax rates, repealing the death tax and repatriating taxable in come outside the United States at a rate of 5 percent to encourage job creation in America rather than abroad. He also wants the tax code to encourage innovation and research and development.

 Removing regulatory burdens that hold back the nation’s economic engine. The nation’s regulatory structure is untenable, Santorum contends, and he would immediately repeal the “regulatory alphabet soup” implemented by the Obama administration. Government agencies should stay within their intended framework, he adds, saying the National Labor Relations Board is doing the political work of Obama’s union allies. He favors streamlining the patent process, reforming the transparency of the Food and Drug Administration’s approval process, and limiting the ability of federal agencies to expand laws through regulations.

 Encouraging global capital and credit markets. Santorum proposes repealing Sarbanes-Oxley , a law regulating financial practice and corporate governance, which he says didn’t prevent the financial crisis and chased capital overseas. He also wants to repeal the Dodd-Frank Wall Street Reform and Consumer Protect Act,before it can be fully implemented to approve “real reform” that will prevent another financial crisis while not placing impediments in the way of capital formation and credit availability for average Americans.

 Tap America’s vast domestic energy resources to power the 21st Century economy. Santrorum says the nation should put aside naïve ideas of creating “green jobs” and focus on an energy policy that utilizes oil, natural gas, coal, and nuclear energy to power the economy. For starters, he would eliminate the Obama administration’s roadblocks to oil exploration in the Gulf of Mexico, along the Outer Continental Shelf, and onshore, including the Artic National Wildlife Refuge. In addition, he says no new natural gas regulations, such as those being debated by Congress, should be enacted. States are regulating the natural gas industry and there is no reason for government involvement, he said.
I just googled "Santorum" & found none of that - Try it
