Obama's $4M Taxpayer-Funded Hawaii Vacation

Posted: Nov 29, 2012

Note the "TAXPAYER-funded" vacation. All presidents take vacations, but none this extravagant during such a poor economic time. I guess it's okay, because after all, he "cares" about us. And at least he's "trying." http://www.whitehousedossier.com/2012/11/29/obama-slated-hawaii-cliff/;

Are you sure? - RC

"The White House has not officially announced the vacation, and it is unclear if the travel plans are finalized or if the Obamas will be in Hawaii for the entire three-week window covered by the restrictions."

Yep - -

[ In Reply To ..]
"According to the Hawaii Reporter, residents who live in the area of Oahu where Obama and his family vacation have been told that the usual restrictions on their movements during an Obama stay will be in place for 21 days, from December 17 through January 6.

"The Hawaii Reporter estimates that the total cost of the vacation to Hawaii and federal taxpayers, including funding for travel, staff and protection, is at least $4 million. Obama’s vacations are more expensive than those of previous presidents because of the huge costs to fly Air Force One and an accompanying cargo plane for nine hours or so to Hawaii."

Here is another link to pretty much the same story... - anon

Must be nice!
It took forever for me access the Hawaiian Reporter - RC

But when I did, I found this:

TRAVEL: $3,629,622
The biggest expense is President Barack Obama’s round trip flight to Hawaii via Air Force One.
A Congressional Research Service report released in May 2012 said the plane typically used by the President, a Boeing 747, costs $179,750 per hour to operate. The U.S. Air Force has listed the cost of travel as high as $181,757 per flight hour.
Travel time for Air Force One direct from Washington D.C. to Hawaii is about 9 hours or as high as $1,635,813 each way for a total of $3,271,622 for the round trip to Hawaii and back.

Can you BELIEVE the cost of running Air Force One? Nearly all of the estimated $4 million is just for the flight.
Yeah, especially if they "need" two - kr

You're a librarian telling people to just "google?" - How about a librarian-quality list of sources
[ In Reply To ..]
for your implication that their history is of two planes?

As for my suggestion, it was that you provide good information instead of potentially scurrilous innuendo. You know, your "2. As is their history?"

Now that I know you work in a library I realize you understand quite clearly both the ethical difference and the suggestion your wording gives that their "history" is of potentially dozens of 2-plane vacations. Thus, you should be able to post ethical and reliable sources, preferably primary of course, to back up your implication of a pattern of behavior.

I'd also be interested in knowing details of Mrs. Obama's reason for leaving on a separate plane that one time. Just "looking bad" and providing something for their enemies to turn into a rock to throw doesn't seem worthy of a librarian. You must know more, of course.

He's only a President, temporarily powerful and replaced before long. We're talking about people here who invite ex-presidents to dinner as entertainment for their other guests.

To say we've let them get way too powerful for our own good and the good of our republic is to grossly understate the matter.

He may pay the lodging, food, and entertainment expenses, but we pay for the Secret Service lodging, food, and entertainment expenses.

George Bush was our most expensive President in terms of vacations, and he spent more days on vacation than any other President. The estimate of the cost of transporting him on Air Force One to his Texas ranch is $20 million in taxpayer money, but the real cost was much higher as we also paid to transport and support staff, family, friends at the ranch. We paid for the real White House and then again for his vacation-based White House.

Don't believe it - the dollars don't compare

[ In Reply To ..]
A ranch in Texas is a far cry from all those places in Europe and Africa that Michelle and her extended-family-and-friends entourage traveled to, not to mention all the family vacations in Hawaii. Texas is small change in comparison. And don't forget, many of Bush's vacations were actually working vacations - he carried out his duties as President there. I know some people don't like him, but I do, and I still respect him.

Bush the Great Vacationer - YD

[ In Reply To ..]
Bush spent a staggering 977 days or 33% of his Presidency on vacation. In fact, he spent the entire month of August 2001 on vacation in Texas. What was his reaction to receiving while there a CIA briefing warning of imminent danger of attack, possibly on American soil, possibly using airplanes? He is reported to have said, "All right, you've covered your ass now." Then he went fishing.
