Hawaii Officials Drop Plan to Name Park for Obama

What Sandy Beach locals really - think

[ In Reply To ..]

Sandy Beach Park's nickname is "break-neck" beach because of its shore break patterns that produce trecherous riptides during high surf conditions. It has the highest number of injuries than any other beach in Hawaii and is already overcrowded.  Locals were concerned over increased tourism the name change might bring, especially after the infusion of funds for cleanup and upgrades.  It appears beachgoers there have their own way of honoring the president.

I don't know where you got your information, but it appears as if it's just your opinion. Here's something to back up the OP, but you won't like it and you'll probably flame it and me. Go for it. Hang 10!

Citing ‘Historical Meaning,’ Fear of Additional Tourists, Hawaiians - Don’t Want Sandy Beach Renamed
[ In Reply To ..]
That is about all of the article that came up. (You have to either sign in or subscribe--I'm not going to pay to read your post)

It is a historical naming and they fear more tourists....seemingly don't want to invoke the name of the historically and widely respected President Obama. They want to keep it to a manageable tourist level.
"Widely respected President Obama"? sm - oh boy

Still drinking that Kool-Aid, huh?
LOL - Still using that lame comeback, huh? - Nothing original in your repertoire?

Why would they comment on a fear of - increased tourism
[ In Reply To ..]
as stated in the previous post? President Obama and the First Lady would be the last people who would want to intrude on historical or cultural meaning. After all, naming the beach after him was not his idea. Obviously the Tpubs are trying to make mountains out of molehills again and are searching far and wide for sujects that will keep national dialog off of their party's internal fractures, infighting, leadership crises and party platform that voters keep rejecting. Clueless as always, they act like they have nothing better to do than grouse and try to stir up trouble. What a shock.

The councilman was right. There are more appropriate places to honor the president's name and legacy, like the hospital where he was born, an airport, highways, schools, libraries and other customary choices. I'm sure they'll figure it out, all in good time.
Maybe this will tickle your fancy... - From Hawaii with some funnies, too!

Excerpt: "When the idea was announced last week, public reaction has been mixed. Martin said in a press release Tuesday that he heard historic and cultural sensitivity concerns from the community about the name change."

There is more to the article at the link. Following the article, there are a lot comments, some of which are pretty funny. I would love to put them here, but I don't know if it's allowed.
The peoples' comments are hysterical!!! - OMG...ROFL!!!!!!!!!!!

The GOP never has been very good at realizing their minority status. While showing up in droves on website comments sections to vent may appear to conflate their numbers, it's just an illusion that most definitely doesn't help them win elections.
That's what's so surprising here. - sm

Hawaii is overwhelmingly liberal and to have their people speak out like this says volumes. I've heard the Obamas are not too popular there anymore. I guess they overstayed their welcome, or Hawaii has caught on to the reality of the scam just like the rest of the intelligent people in the country.

Hawaiians have historical and cultural ties to Sandy Beach they want to remained undisturbed. Personally, I know I would throw FITS if someone came along and tried to rename even an inch of historical Texas places. What I hear in this post is a lot of projection and wishful thinking. Rather than inventing a whole bunch of hooey and trying to make it fit a preconceived partisan narrative, why not simply accept facts on face value and move on?
That is not the desperate Republican way - much ado about nothing

anything substantive they struggle to make a point.

They troll for this garbage, throw in a few demeaning nicknames, hurl basic disrespect and stick out their tongues and wait for response.

Obama's Border Plan Looks Similar To Bush'sMay 26, 2010
Another time O is mimicking something Bush did. For how much he speaks against Bush, it's unbelieveable that he is implementing things Bush did. Bush haters should be really upset over this.   PHOENIX – President Barack Obama's plan to send as many as 1,200 National Guard troops to the US-Mexico border appears to be a scaled-down version of the border security approach championed by his predecessor. Obama Defends Plan To Act On Immigration: CBS InterviewNov 10, 2014
WASHINGTON (Reuters) - U.S. President Barack Obama defended his plan to use executive powers to implement some immigration reforms, saying in an interview broadcast on Sunday he had waited long enough for Congress to act.  Obama told congressional leaders on Friday he would try to ease some restrictions on undocumented immigrants, despite warnings from Republican leaders that such actions would "poison the well" or would be "a red flag in front of a bull." "Everybody agrees the immigration ...

Followup To The Budget Terminations/reductions In The Obama PlanApr 12, 2011
I'm not done looking at different reactions to FY2012. This one came from the National Taxpayers Union. It makes you stop and think how many times over the years this style of termination/reduction has been put in place by all other Presidents.    Despite some worthy attempts at spending restraint, President Obama’s latest budget plan relies more heavily on new revenues, rosy economic assumptions, and accounting shifts than many taxpayers would expect, according to a speci ...

Republican-led House Blocks Obama Immigration PlanDec 04, 2014
Washington (AFP) - In a symbolic rebuke to US President Barack Obama's unilateral action on immigration, the Republican-led House of Representatives voted Thursday to block his plan to shield millions of people from deportation. The bill, which passed 219-197 along party lines, was introduced by conservatives furious with what they consider Obama's abuse of power when he announced his executive order last month. The Obama campaign email said Romney’s tax plan would force him to raise taxes on the middle class and increase the deficit. "Even the studies that Romney has cited to claim his plan adds up still show he would need to raise middle-class taxes," the Obam ...
