Not too shabby.

MI - Over-reaching personhood measure rejected 58% to 42%.  A similar agenda was rejected in Colorado in 2008 and again in 2010.

OH - Senate Bill 5 referendum soundly reversed Kasich's anti-union efforts 63% to 37%.  Impressive numbers.

KY - Steve Beshear scored a 60%-30%-%10 margin over GOP and independent opponents.  Dems also won in Secretary of State, Treasurer and Auditor races.  Evidently, Palin's endorsement of the GOP contender for gov fell on deaf ears.

AZ - The Secy of State, state senator and architect of illegal immigration reform legislation that opened doors to arbitrary and indiscriminate racial profiling lost the recall election by a comfortable 7% margin.

ME - Maine voters reversed a recent voter suppression/restriction provision and restored election day registration in the process.

AR - Arkansas voters authorized highway infrastructure improvement bonds for an extensive jobs-creating program proposed by Gov Mike Beebe despite local TP and GOP opposition.

NJ - Dems maintained majority and gained a state assembly seat.

TX - The geremandered Texas redistricting map was thrown out of federal court on account of the usual TX GOP shennigans and has to be redrawn before next year's election.

VA - First openly gay dem prevails over his gay GOP opponent, wins state senate seat.  : )

Just a little note: - The personhood measure was not in Michigan

[ In Reply To ..]
it was in Mississippi, although I'm not sure it was a win for Progressives, so much as a rejection of a very unclear amendment. I think that in order for something like that to pass, even here, in our very conservative state, it needs to be very clearly laid out exactly what it will and will not do.

Yep. That's what I meant. I stand corrected. - Brain-fingers disconnect. nm

"Progressive" is code for COMMIE. - Historian

Anyone who is well read in world history knows it.

But you "progressives" keep playing word games and fooling the drooling masses with your semantic deception. Fortunately the intelligent, educated will NOT fall for it.

The blankets that the GOP try to paint are not accurate. Fact is, the conservative versus progressive thing was devised to keep people at odds to keep then from uniting on what they have in common. Pubs and Dems sleep in the same bed with one another. Surely you can see that.

Yep, that is basically what a progressive is. nm - Indy

More like ruining TP social engineering, union busting, racial profiling, - nd voter suppression efforts.
[ In Reply To ..]
Ain't it a shame? Cut them suckers right off at the pass. I gotta wonder what you have against democratic process? These votes were won by wide margins. TP appears to be losing its grip, and not a moment too soon.
In OH, all they unions did was create CERTAIN - layoffs. OH has no money for them now. nm
[ In Reply To ..]

No, what OH unions did was defeat TP union busters and - preserve their collective bargaining rights.
[ In Reply To ..]
all fair and square. The numbers were awesome...39 to 61...a 22% margin.

Yeah, but on Ohio, voters rejected Obamacare - BIGTIME. nm

Not quite. States which exercise the HCR opt out provision - are still required

[ In Reply To ..]
to meet prescribed criteria in their proposed state plans. It will be up to the courts, not the individual states, to determine what the statutes mean and whether or not a state is in compliance with those criteria requirements. Opt out is part of HCR, and current state challenges to it will ultimately be resolved by a legal (not elective) process. Meanwhile, Ohio has soundly rejected the national TP/ALEC/Koch Bros anti-union agenda, BIGTIME.

So, it is fine with you to go AGAINST the voters. - Blah

on Obamacare. Typical liberal socialism at its best.
Hey, I didn't write the Constitution. SCOTUS rules. - That's the law.

I guess you think the founding fathers were a bunch of liberal socialists, huh?

SCOTUS has been a bit skewed lately, ruling - sm

that corporations are people, selecting presidents, etc. The SCOTUS certainly isn't on the side of average, everyday people.
Agreed. That's exactly my point. - sm
[ In Reply To ..]
No one can possibly know how SCOTUS will rule on individual mandate constitutionality. This crowing and chest beating over an OH symbolic vote is way overblown. As it stands now, states cannot simply opt out of HCR. After the court rules, they MAY be able to opt out of mandate, but will still be required to provide an equivalent version of a state plan that meets HCR criteria. Part of that criteria is to to convince Washington that their approach covers at least as many state residents, provides equally affordable and comprehensive benefits, and would not increase the federal deficit. They would not be allowed to implement any such plans until 2017...3 years after the federal mandate takes effect. It appears that the only real "accomplishment" in opting out would be forcing the state to take on the expenses of providing an essentially duplicate state-sponsored HCR program modeled on the PPACA. Big whoop.

This symbolic vote does not allow OH to opt out of - federal HCR law.

[ In Reply To ..]
It prevents OH from enacting a state healthcare reform law that includes a mandate. Like the OP says, SCOTUS holds all the cards. If they uphold HCR constitutionality, the federal law will preempt Ohio's law,as it will in any nd all other states.

So? Point is, OHIO does not WANT to be told by - Obama what to do on healthcare!!! nm

[ In Reply To ..]
nm
No, point is ths vote has no teeth - The reality is
[ In Reply To ..]
They still have to comply with standards set by HCR as interpreted by the courts.
You dont even get it. It sends message to OBUMMER - Frank
[ In Reply To ..]
His idiotic healthcare overall is NOT wanted. His plan stinks.
No, you don't get it. The message is from - Obama to OH
[ In Reply To ..]
If OH is ever allowed to opt out of the mandate (which at the moment is not possible until the ruling comes down from SCOTUS), the state still has to come up with its own healthcare plan which is required to meet prescribed HCR criteria. So here's the deal. The vote has no realtime consequences, kinda like this little hissy of yours.

Symbolic? Fine, -symbolic rejection of OBAMA.nm - Indy

Nothing symbolic about protecting union CB rights - for public workers in OH.
[ In Reply To ..]
Given a choice, I prefer winning ballot initiatives that translate into real benefits and gains, not some imagined victory involving a symbolic gesture, but I do understand your need to find some sort of a bright spot amongst all those defeated TP ideas, regardless of how insignificant that may be.
Ironic part is now many of them will be laid off. nm - '_'
[ In Reply To ..]
nm
As if upholding SB5 wouldn't have resulted in layoffs? - sm
[ In Reply To ..]
If I were a public employee facing the possibility of being laid off, personally I would choose to be laid off with my CB rights INTACT, not stripped. How the potential layoffs actually play out will depend heavily on just how much of the voter's message Kasich actually heard (as he claims he did) and what lengths he is willing to go to to save his own rapidly decaying political career.

He should at least grock the idea that balancing the budget exclusively on the backs of MC workers ain't gonna fly in Ohio. On the chopping block should be such things as his privatization schemes (to include such things as the state's jobs programs, and state assets like the universities and the turnpike systems) as a way to bankroll unfunded tax breaks for corps, the wealthy and special interests. Last spring, a poll showed that only 30% of Ohioans support privatizing turnpikes even if it could help balance the budget. As an example, Kasich might want to revisit his plan to phase out estate taxes, that is if Tuesday's vote taught him that folks aren't likely to negotiate his devastating cuts to schools, local governments and health and human services via a one-way dead end street that only calls for sacrifice from the MC.

I found comments made by Lancaster's GOP Mayor David Smith interesting. He said recent police, firefighter and city worker job losses in Lancaster had nothing to do with labor union disputes, but rather were attributable a 50 PERCENT REDUCTION in municipal allocations, which the state kept to help fund the tax breaks. Ummmm, just sayin', the successful defeat of SB5 more than likely has next to nothing to do with pending lay offs. That dye was cast a while back.
