Target advertising mishap

Posted: Apr 5, 2013

Did anyone see the thing where Target had a plus-sized dress and the color was advertised as "manatee grey", which is an actual color advertised for other products, but because this was a plus-sized item, it was "offensive".  This world has gone crazy, I swear it has.  People claim offense to EVERYTHING and it seems someone always is apologizing!  Target actually APOLOGIZED, had a whole news write up on the apology.  They wasted news space, their time, etc., because the name of a color offended someone?  If a woman is plus-sized and happy with herself, then GREAT!  If she is plus-sized and feels that because Target advertises a color, they are calling her a manatee, then perhaps she should do something to change her appearance so she wouldn't be offended.  Some things make me crazy.

the plus size product was called "manatee gray" - NOT the others

In fact, the Misses size in the same garment was called "heather gray". This isn't exactly about "claiming" offense. It IS offensive. It is a seriously stupid name for a color!

It is an actual color - me

And again, if it is offensive then a person should do something about the problem they are having with their own bodies, not get bent out of shape over a color. If a shirt was called elephant gray I wouldn't care, I wouldn't be offended, i'm not fat!

I know it's an actual color - sm

and I'm not fat, either. It's just pretty odd that only the plus-size garment used that name for the the color.

But I'm sure there are things that WOULD offend you... - wheres_my_job

...look how offended you are by fat people not liking an article of clothing being marketed to them as manatee grey...it drives you crazy!

People can be fine with their bodies, and still find offense in OTHERS' perception and descriptions of their bodies.

Remember - you are taking offense at someone else's reaction to something that doesn't even concern you.
Exactly! How about a size 2 in stick-insect green? - I prefer "orca", myself

We are all going to be offended by something in life. Feelings will always be hurt, people will take things out of context, but the world has gotten to where a company must give a public apology because a color "offended" someone. I am more of a "pull up your big girl panties and get over it" type person. If something offends me, I just move on from it. A company shouldn't have to give an apology to me or anyone else. If it offended me to an extreme point, then I could choose to stop shopping with them.

Truth In Advertising And ObamacareNov 20, 2013
I propose that the people who love their junk health insurance policies so much be allowed to keep them, but the junk policies should be listed on the health exchange with the rest of the compliant policies.  If a person wishes to waste their money and keep or sign up for a junk policy, they should be required to sign a disclaimer saying that they understand they are paying money for junk and that they are willing to go bankrupt or refuse medical care should they find they need to actually ...

Advertising Small Business On FacebookJan 27, 2010
Has anyone had success with advertising a small business using a fan page (or whatever they call it) on FB?  I have yet to set up an account.  I do not want a personal account as I have been told that FB tries to link your personal and business info together.  In addition to being a PT MT, I am also a travel consultant working out of my home.  It's an established family business with a long-time website.  I would like to use that website name as ...

Avoid The Restrooms At Target. Better StillApr 21, 2016
It doesn't matter what position you take about transgender issues - it is NOT a good idea to allow people to choose whatever restroom they happen to prefer.  Target has NO way of knowing that the man who chooses the women's restroom is truly transgender, rather than being a predator with an entirely different purpose in mind. This is an unsafe world.  You NEED, and HAVE A RIGHT to know who is in the next stall. For this incredibly naive move, I've sent Target a message ...

So Nervous About Target Debit CardApr 05, 2013
I was shopping at Target recently and a clerk told me about the Target debit card where you automatically get 5% off on purchases. I jumped on it, filled out an application, and now I'm a serious nervous wreck when I think about all the information I gave up, which was everything - name, address, phone number, social security number, driver's license and bank account number. What an idiot! I regret it a thousand times over now. I'm so paranoid about identify theft, I can' ...

In Shift, Feds Target Top Execs For Health Fraud'May 31, 2011
WASHINGTON -- It's getting personal now. In a shift still evolving, federal enforcers are targeting individual executives in health care fraud cases that used to be aimed at impersonal corporations. The new tactic is raising the anxiety level – and risks – for corporate honchos at drug companies, medical device manufacturers, nursing home chains and other major health care enterprises that deal with Medicare and Medicaid. Previously, if a company got caught, its lawy ...

More Bad News For Issa. IRS Did Not Only "target"Jun 24, 2013
While we are left to speculate what it was in those interview transcripts disclosed last week that Issa was so intent on hiding (perhaps WH exoneration?), there is new information that casts further doubt on his White House connection theory.  Seems the IRS BOLO list (Be On the Lookout) included the key words "Occupy," "Progressive" and "Israel" and that the majority of those applications flagged for review were not Tea Party groups.  It would appear Issa's assumptions and basis f ...
