Why you can't shop before you input your info

Interesting article about the design and true purpose of the website.

;

I've heard that before and it makes sense, - along with delaying the

individual mandate until 2014.

What would many people do if they saw a gross - premium was $500/mo BEFORE they

[ In Reply To ..]
they input enough information to see that the ACTUAL premium would be far less after adjusting for income?

Many would not go further to find out, some easily discouraged or a favorite program starting on TV, and some angry and disappointed, sure all the lies they were told had been proven true.

Above all, MANY still do not realize, even at this point, that discounts off the base premiums are available and that almost everyone qualifies for them. Why would they continue after they "learned" they couldn't afford coverage -- still?

When you think of that and then add the reality that this program needs as many people signed up as possible, preferably as soon as possible (just like Social Security when it began), having people fill in most of the pleasantly SHORT application first is sensible and responsible. The best way to serve the people it's intended for.

This article presents as hostile and misleading an interpretation as possible without straying farther from the facts than Forbes will allow.

It's called truth in advertising. - sm

Don't wee on me and tell me it's raining.

Presenting ALL information to a buyer before allowing - purchase is the polar opposite. nm

YES, they would, and here's why - sm

People are more interested in what discounts they can get. Simple solution to your premise of, "Oh, they won't look further" is put a giant Check for Subsidies button under the gross premium amount! One can't tell if a good deal is a good deal without first knowing the gross price of an item--any item, from groceries to cars to clothes and all in between.

Do you ever even shop sales or use coupons? Do you not buy something because you're not told what the price will be after you apply your coupon at checkout?

The way they have this set up is ridiculous and to surmise that people won't go further in the process because a gross premium is listed is just dumb.

Also, you have failed to take into account that the subsidy levels will change based on a person's income. Therefore, if I know I'm going to be getting a higher salary later in a certain year, then it would behoove me to know the full amount of the premium, not the subsidy amount based on my lower income so I can adjust my budget over the course of the year.

You read the assumptions on this forum alone, the people - who are DETERMINED to find no benefit

[ In Reply To ..]
and can still say that?

Note that this signup is designed to be as inclusive as possible. Not only is there no step inserted to weed out those who would destroy it for everyone else, every effort is made to enable EVERYONE get get healthcare coverage, especially protecting (from themselves) those who'd gladly spite themselves and their families to have their hostility to Obamacare "proven" right.

And if they could find what they considered adequate "proof" in the first step, who honestly believes they all would choose to risk going further? We're not talking rational thought here.
It would be nice - sm

If your response made at least a little sense. But we can all dream, can't we.

I believe anyone should be allowed to shop without creating an account - lib/leftie/commie socialist

I can go to Amazon and peruse my choices without providing my name, address, and credit card number. I believe everyone should be able to access their most affordable insurance possibilities without having to create an account and/or provide personal identifying information.

Good point. I agree, although I would have done it this - way for the same sensible reasons. Pragmatic nm

My son is a military man, has been for near 15 years now.  As long as he has been active duty, it seems that he is deployed for at least 6 months out of the year.  About 7 years ago he met a nice gal who lived in the city where he was stationed, things progressed and they married.  She was fully aware, of course, that he is active duty and what was required of his service.  6 years ago they had my grandson AND, were informed that they would be stationed elsewhere.  DIL ...

Requesting Conservative InputJan 04, 2012
I have read conservatives are against Obama's health care law.  I would like to know who should pay for people who refuse to buy health insurance.  For example, I hired a handyman out of the local paper.  he told me about his appendicitis.  He said he did not buy health care because he knew govt would take care of his bill if he could not.  Why do you not wish for each individual to be responsible for their hospital bills?  Not looking for argument, just would ...

But, Senate Democrats and the President rejected that measure.  Senator Reid said it is a "non starter," ...
