If it is not the ammo Government buys, it is

Posted: Mar 4, 2013

Do not tell me the ammo is a normal thing Government is buying!!!!  Something is coming and looks like civil unrest to me, the people and the government.

Government arms race kicks into high gear as DHS buys 2,700 armored vehicles for streets of America When DHS purchased 1.6 billion rounds of ammunition to be used domestically, inside the USA, and I said this looks like a government agency preparing for war with the American people, I was told, "That's crazy. The government would never do that." When DHS purchased 7,000 full-auto assault rifles to be used inside the United States, calling them "personal defense weapons" that could be used in urban warfare, I was once again told I was crazy for suggesting the government was arming up for war with the American people. Now DHS has retrofitted 2,717 "Navistar Defense" armored vehicles for service on the streets of America. Click here to see pictures and specs for this vehicle from the manufacturer's website. Will someone please tell me why all the - talk of civil unrest

[ In Reply To ..]
and civil war and states seceding, etc? As someone stated on a thread up higher, I assume we all have roofs over our heads, food in our bellies, and computers and gadgets to play with, so...why are people (specifically, Republicans) so dramatically unhappy as to be talking about rebelling against the government, riots, etc? I don't have a lot--I have a tiny apartment I pay $1200 a month for and hardly anything to put in it. Is it easy? No. but it's NEVER been easy. And life is pretty good. So what is it? What's so horrible these days that people are bristling for violence? Is it Obamacare?

Malcontents and paranoids are always among us - and they're doing their thing. BUT! sm

Although I'm neither, I hope, as a sensible person I do expect large scale civil breakdown at some point. We're too dependent on large breakable systems for necessities to stay alive.

For instance, we have over 300,000,000 people in this country who all need a minimum of a quart of water a day. At about 70 degrees, normal humidity, many can survive up to 10 days without any water at all, but people will start dying within the first 3 days.

Some of us some places (especially in the western half of the country) are one civil disaster away from learning that firsthand.

And when people take to the streets to go find the nearest urban reservoir, they will find it guarded by armed troops. As it must be.

And that's just considering water.

But isn't that *always* the case? - nm

This time last century 80% of U.S. households grew some - of their own food. Cities with a million
[ In Reply To ..]
inhabitants were rare. Before the auto, cities tended to grow as large as it would take a person to walk across them in one day, and then stop.

A power outage never affected more than a few tens of thousands, they all had some kind of alternative heating and light anyway, and it would have little effect on whether the bread and milk vendors came by the next day as usual.

And no nation had 300,000,000 people, mostly clustered in population centers that typically have only a few days' food per person (on average, not actually available to each person).

We've never had human disease vectors traveling by the millions around the planet every day, most journeys ending in crowded cities.

No, it's never been anything like this before.

A quart of water TO each person per day to keep them alive, not just somewhere in the area. Remember people going without food, water, heat in those tall buildings after Sandy? That was WITH busily and effectively functioning city, county, state, and national emergency systems. It was also a disaster only affecting people right along the coast, and leaving much of the city little affected--not a pandemic, say, filling the Eastern Seaboard megalopolis with hundreds of thousands of very sick and dead people.

BTW, I'm not one of those disaster nuts, sure the whole world's coming to an end permanently. I just think we all should do a little planning to take care of ourselves in the event that someday picking up the phone brings dead silence but trying to get to the local hospital, or anywhere else, seems like a really bad idea. Why not pick up some bottled water next few times at the market? Leave some in the trunk of the car. Some extra aspirin and other basic medications. Some canned goods; nothing fancy. It actually takes a long time to starve to death, and almost all disasters will have been brought under control long before most would rather die than eat another beet.
I'm talking about in the last 50 years or so. - Why all the hubbub now?
[ In Reply To ..]
Before O was president, I didn't see so many paranoid crazies preparing for the end. Now people are talking about civil war and civil unrest, and it makes no sense to me. Other than people are upset because they don't like the president. Well guess what--we've all been there.

Are these people so terribly miserable that they are just itching to kill their relatives, neighbors, friends, etc... ??? Apparently there are some who think civil unrest, civil war, etc, would be loads of fun.. Scary how ignorant they are.
Ignornant are the ones who are not prepared. - Something is coming due to GUNS.

How I wish that people knew more about the history of this nation, and about the expansion of government with more agencies, more laws, more regulations, more inspections, and other impediments to personal success that has occurred especially since the 1930s, and in which NONE of the parties in power have been blameless. Less Government Is What We NeedOct 23, 2012
Why do Democrats think it okay for Obama to force us to buy health insurance but for government to stay out of our bedrooms?  Why is it okay in some cases but not in others.  I am a healthy person and rarely need any healthcare.  Why should I subsidize people who make unhealthy decisions?  I think we need to have affordable catastrophic health insurance but we don't need to provide insurance for hang nails or the sniffles. ...

We Own The GovernmentOct 10, 2013
In the current fight over the government shutdown, Republicans are simply representing the views of the American people. Americans didn't ask for Obamacare, they don't want it, but now their insurance premiums are going through the roof, their doctors aren't accepting it, and their employers are moving them into part-time work -- or firing them -- to avoid the law's mandates. Contrary to Obama's promises, it turns out: You can't keep your doctor, you can't ...

The results aren’t pretty, the paper points out. A whopping 35 percent ...
