Religion sets rules: Do unto others as you would have them do unto you. Albeit I believe "eye for an eye" should apply. Am not a religious person per se but believe this book reveals punishment and rewards for behavior in a karma sort of way. It's gotten humanity to a civilized state in the western world, as opposed to the middle east/near east, Asia, Indonesia where the dark ages continue without complaint, including garb Jesus would wear.
Interesting that the same ones - Observation

who badmouth the Bible would love to open the borders to those who treat women like second-class citizens.
Where did you come - up with that statement?
[ In Reply To ..]
I would consider myself more liberal than conservative. I don't badmouth the bible and I don't believe in open borders. In fact, I know a lot of people who are liberals and don't badmouth the bible and don't believe in open borders.
Religion doesn't belong in our government though.

Seems us moderates don't have a voice. I am more conservative than liberal but agree, NO religion has a place in government. I also firmly believe that no ideology has a place in government.
Yes, for the most part I live and let - But when they want tte bible

To supercede law and constitution, I have whiplash and want to banish them to their Sunday services....oh, but I forget, many are just armchair judgmentalists and don't really live by the word. HYPOCRITES
If you live and let live - why use such a blanket term? - anon
[ In Reply To ..]
My mother and mother-in-law are devote Christians and neither are hypocrites. They leave their faith in the church and at home, as many religions followers do. If you truly live and left live, YOU wouldn't be so judgmental.
Just when threatened - And that is confusing
[ In Reply To ..]
Devout Christians that leave religion at home? You must mean they don't preach and force on others, not that they don't live as christians outside the house...although I definitely know those "Sunday Christians" really well.

that he doesn't treat women as second class citizens...cheats on them, grabs them inappropriately, brags about it, seems to me he treats women the same as they are treated in those countries he is trying to ban and build a wall against..
Oh I get it now...he doesn't want competition, so he has to try and keep other countries away.

Why demean someone's religion? - anon
[ In Reply To ..]
Religion is sacred to many so why demean it by calling it a fairytale? I could say the same thing about gender fluidity, that it's a fairytale. I do agree, however, that religion, no matter the religion, has no place in government. Legislature cannot be based upon religion - not if it's to be fair and just for all.

Do you know that our legal system is based on English common law, which is in turn based on Mosaic law? Do you know that the founding principle of our constitution, and thus our legal system, is based on "natural law" which states that our rights are given to us by God and not by the state, that God is greater than the state and the state, which is lower than God, cannot take these laws away.
If you undertake a study of the Bible, particularly the Torah (the first 5 books of the Bible) which is a very detailed legal code for the nation of Israel, you will find that many many western nations use this code as the foundation of their constitutions and their legal system. Indeed, the writers of our constitution were inspired by, and drew heavily from, the Bible.
The other legal system that is used in "Christendom" is the Roman system which is used by many Catholic nations such as Spain, Mexico, France and Italy. Roman law is considerably less protective of human rights than the legal systems which are based on Mosaic law. For instance, the presumption of innocence is a cornerstone of Mosaic law which places the burden on the state to prove guilt, and also is the basis for the right to bail.
Indeed, if you cast out the biblical tenants from the legal system, you are only a short step away from tyranny. So you should be glad when judges state that the bible, natural law, and god given human rights supercede the constitution and come first. The Bible came first, and has withstood the test of time. Thus this statement means this judge will protect your rights under the constitution, and not frivol them away based on the politically correct notions of the moment.
Now I understand you are probably concerned about some of the laws in Leviticus that deal very harshly with homosexuality and adultery. In ancient Israel, these were serious crimes in the eyes of the law, but actually the Biblical law protected those who were accused of these actions, they could not be convicted without clear and compelling evidence -- the Bible forbids lynch mobs.
Also, we live in the age of Grace, the Bible teaches forgiveness of sin as well, therefore our legal system, in these more liberal days, examination of the Bible in its entirety, disallows "policemen under the bed" laws so you need not fear that a judge who understands importance of the the Bible and the fact it is the founding legal document of our country, is going to find a sexual crime where the statutes do not state that there is.
That's all fine and dandy but the law of our - land is the constitution, not

This country is and always has been modeled as a secular nation, under secular law, and that covers both the freedom of religion and the freedom FROM religion. Anyone is free to follow their own beliefs, but they are not free to insist that others do. Religion belongs in a church, a synagogue, a mosque, or even under a tree, and it has the right to be there, but religion does not belong in our public schools. It does not belong in our courts or our government. It absolutely does not belong in my doctor's office and especially not in my uterus.

We Own The GovernmentOct 10, 2013
In the current fight over the government shutdown, Republicans are simply representing the views of the American people.
Americans didn't ask for Obamacare, they don't want it, but now their insurance premiums are going through the roof, their doctors aren't accepting it, and their employers are moving them into part-time work -- or firing them -- to avoid the law's mandates.

The results aren’t pretty, the paper points out. A whopping 35 percent ...
