Is no one noticing that the Federal government

Posted: Feb 23, 2015

Read the headlines and you'll find that there's virtually no small corner of your life that the Federal government isn't trying to exert control under this administration through an enormous body of regulations that either already have been, or will be, implemented.

You like meat?  Grab it while you can, because feed lots are "harmful to the environment".

You like water?  The EPA is proposing to make every drop of water on the face of the land a "waterway" over which it has authority.  We've already had people fined for collecting rain water on their own property!

Does the internet work okay for you?  Enjoy it while you can, because the FCC is about to enact regulations that will change it (for the worse) forever.

We already know about healthcare, and folks, I don't care what anyone says, my spouse is involved every day in trying to get people approved for care, facing unsurmountable obstacles, and it's become a complete nightmare.  OBAMACARE IS A PIG'S BREAKFAST, and that's all there is to it.  In fact, Obamacare has utterly ruined what was once one of the best systems in the world by applying the wrong "fix" for the problems that, admittedly, did exist (uninsured, pre-existing conditions particularly).

Of course FIXING THE PROBLEMS WAS NEVER THE OBJECTIVE OF OBAMACARE, BUT MERELY THE EXCUSE!  The objective was a takeover of the healthcare industry, and once you grok that you can finally understand why anyone (liberals) voted for it without the slightest idea of what the law said.  They only knew that it extended the power of Federal government into this domain of American life, and that was enough for them.

A Federal judge has struck down Obama's imperial immigration decree, but the administration proceeds as if no ruling had ever been issued.

Meanwhile, the world is on fire while the administration plays golf and lives in some kind of a fantasy world where the sky isn't blue, and the grass isn't green.  America's influence in the world has been thoroughly trashed, and even our closest allies no longer trust anything we say.

In truth, I no longer recognize the nation in which I grew up, and that's a fact.  Mark my words:  History will show that the worst thing that ever happened to this country was Obama and his administration.  They're mad as hatters, and they're not taking their medications.

having to pay a scribe to follow him around. He didn't seem too concerned about not dictating anymore though---and paying a transcriptionist.

Electronic medical records just driving him nuts because it includes the whole history and he is a surgeon. He doesn't care about the rest of your health. Just wants to remove your gallbladder and be done.

Even he admitted the EMR began with Clinton administration and gathered steam through the Bush administration, way before Obamacare.

But he says he has to consider selling out to the hospitals because he can't afford to do practice as all of the prices are set by Medicare (pre-Obamacare as well).

And then Valentine made odd conclusion that "isn't that the goal to make all doctors work for the government?" As far as I know the hospitals are large corporate entities around here, not government-owned.

Net Neutrality--why would any individual not - support it?

[ In Reply To ..]
More than any other invention of our time, the Internet has unlocked possibilities we could just barely imagine a generation ago. And here's a big reason we've seen such incredible growth and innovation: Most Internet providers have treated Internet traffic equally. That's a principle known as "net neutrality" — and it says that an entrepreneur's fledgling company should have the same chance to succeed as established corporations, and that access to a high school student's blog shouldn't be unfairly slowed down to make way for advertisers with more money. -- The Whitehouse

In May 2014, FCC Chairman Tom Wheeler released a plan that would have allowed companies like AT&T, Comcast and Verizon to discriminate online and create pay-to-play fast lanes.

Millions of you spoke out — and fought back.

Thanks to the huge public and political outcry, Wheeler shelved his original proposal, and on Feb. 4, 2015, he announced that he will base new Net Neutrality rules on Title II of the Communications Act, giving Internet users the strongest protections possible.

The FCC will vote on Wheeler’s proposal at its Feb. 26 meeting. If all goes well, it will be a watershed victory for activists who have fought for a decade to protect the open Internet.
Without Net Neutrality, cable and phone companies could carve the Internet into fast and slow lanes. An ISP could slow down its competitors' content or block political opinions it disagreed with. ISPs could charge extra fees to the few content companies that could afford to pay for preferential treatment — relegating everyone else to a slower tier of service. This would destroy the open Internet.http://www.savetheinternet.com/net-neutrality-what-you-need-know-now

I don't understand this either. - sm

I can only surmise that conservative news outlets are misrepresenting the issue to their followers.

You need to do a bit more research. - sm

[ In Reply To ..]
First, your source is not only biased, but hasn't even seen the regs. Those who HAVE seen the regs are saying this:

http://www.washingtonexaminer.com/obamas-regs-will-make-internet-slow-as-in-europe-warn-fcc-fec-commissioners/article/2560567

And ask yourself this: Exactly what is there about the Internet that isn't working right now for you, or that you think needs to be "fixed" at all? The answer is, one thing and one thing only. We still have a "last mile" problem in portions of the US that can't get access to high-speed internet, and these regs do nothing whatsoever to address that.

Then, it really doesn't take much thought to ask yourself what the likely upshot is of the federal government regulating the internet, which has been the single greatest source of free-flowing information yet devised. If there isn't anything about this that gives you serious concern, there's nothing that I can say.

Then, you really need to look at who's going to benefit from "net neutrality" (a euphemism if ever there was one - like the "affordable care act"). Answer, ISPs like AT&T that have long experience with turning government regs into profit for them and cost for us.

Don't let the term "net neutrality" distract you from the fact that there is a reason these regulations are deliberately being kept secret until they are passed - a lot like Obamacare, for example.

Do you have inside info on these secret regulations? - nm-Enquiring Mind

Rainwater - sm

[ In Reply To ..]
Diverting water resources is illegal in many areas, and I think has been for a long time. I believe I saw that covered on Bonanza at one point.

As of March 22, 2014; after hours of ongoing research for the past year, I have checked all 50 state government websites and found that there is currently, no state government law in the U.S. that considers rainwater harvesting by individuals (homeowners) in a direct manor and bluntly, “against the law” for anyone and everyone and furthermore, “government” is not becoming “more restrictive with rain water harvesting”- yet; but it may happen in the future. One exception is Colorado, where there are still limitations for some people. Keep a watchful eye on government – always! (the information in this post is based on my interpretation. I’ve included links to the info used) Rain waterharvesting as the process of capturing water in rain barrels, or roof water harvesting by individuals is not currently (as of April 2014) against state law in the following states: (Corrections accepted with a link to the source.) Thanks to Andre for corrections regarding Ohio, and Georgia, September 21, 2014.

nasty, dirty conditions, everyone with a bucket out, to catch something, including water, to wash and become equally infected with whatever. If lots of water is collected and diverted there is a great disruption in the available water to be processed and made into the drinking water needed in major metropolitan areas that have little resources.

just a few things about water - sm

Open water such as nonapproved water barrels can be a incubator for encephalitis bearing mosquitos. A rain water collector can be very unsafe, in the same way an unfenced swimming pool is, to children and animals. That water that you spray on your fertilized and pesticided lawn and garden will eventually run off into the water that you drink. Think about the millions of gallons that are used for crop irrigation and manufacturing. Oh well, those *inconvenient* regulations.

It seems conservatives these days never tire of whining endlessly about all these government regulations being put on citizens and how the government should stay out of our lives; however, Republicans have their own laundry lists of ideas of how they can regulate multitudes of things, many of them which involve the female body. They would love to legislate us back into the stone age based on their religious beliefs. Rick Santorum is in favor of outlawing birth control pills and outlawing abortion. How's that for less government regulation? The Republicans and Tea Party want so much regulation and government control over us! Perhaps in Santorum's case, all that education he received at Pennsylvania State University, University of Pittsburgh, and the Dickinson School of Law has caused his indoctrination.

As far as government regulations on the environment, Republicans seemed to have found a scapegoat in President Obama (nothing new there) and act as though regulations that had never existed miraculously appeared in 2009. They whine frequently at how they miss the "good old days" before Obama. LOL. This narrative is patently false. For instance, I have had this HUGE giant hole in my backyard, as do most of my neighbors, and the government has been regulating the hell out of it for decades. It collects rainwater every single time it rains whether I want it to or not. It's called a swimming pool, and the government insists that I keep it chlorinated and clean. Imagine that! I mean, the nerve of those jerks forcing me to keep my giant hole of water clean. LOL. Have you ever had a neighbor with 20,000 gallons of putrid water full of filth and living yellow, black, and green scum that seems to double in size daily? I actually have, and I can tell you, it is a public health hazard. Mosquitoes start to lay eggs in it (think West Nile virus, chickungunya, many more) and then the pesky neighbors (meaning me and all the owners within a quarter mile upwind or downwind of it) called the local authorities to handle it. The neighbor went on vacation for several weeks in summer and came back to a big surprise.

Thank God Obama came along and regulated that rainwater crap!

The beef industry - our livelihood
[ In Reply To ..]
It's hard to explain to those who are not involved in small family farming/ranching what it's like from a financial standpoint.
We live in a rural area on a small cattle ranch - the price of beef is tied to the weather - but any weather - not just "global warming" as evidenced by the blizzard in the Dakotas 18 months ago. Ranching is a business and when cattle numbers go down, the price goes up - you can count on it - so watch the price of beef begin to come down now as the ranchers are again able to rebuild their herds. sadly, it also means that their profit margin will go down. These times of high beef prices are what keeps many ranching families in the business and able to keep their family home. Medical transcription has put food on our family's table through many of these cycles over the last 30 years.....
It's a free country - eat beef or don't eat beef - but as for me, I would rather eat the beef that I produce in my backyard than the fish that comes from China - just saying.....
Far too many of us in the US (myself included) - can no longer afford fresh - sm

meat or fish anymore, and poultry is on its way to becoming exorbitantly overprices, as well.

I was at Grocery Outlet (our local discount supermarket) this morning. A smallish, cylindrical package of ground beef was priced at $17. Heaven only knows what they're charging for the same package at one of the fancy places like Lucky or Safeway!

Oh, why can't our country be more like China where industry is allowed to thrive and grow unregulated?

You like meat? In China, cattle are allowed to graze in garbage dumps. Mmmmm... good eatin'.

You like water? In China, polluters are not fined and the water is allowed to..... see link below.

If only our government would get out of the way and let companies take control of our internet and our waterways and the air we breathe and take away affordable healthcare from millions and millions of us, everything would be just dandy. I mean, next thing you know, they'll be trying to get millions of people on socialist, single-payer healthcare, and we just can't have that.........

Do you know how much excrement is produced - by beef, pigs, chickens?

[ In Reply To ..]
Go ahead, live downstream.

Excrement or chemicals? - which do you want in your vegetable garden?

[ In Reply To ..]
I kind of like it the way that God intended - the cycle of life - animal excrement is what makes the garden grow. If we need more vegetables for people to eat when they stop eating meat, we will need more chemicals to fertilize because without some sort of cycle of animals and plants, the plants will stop growing. Unless you plan to keep a cow in your backyard to fertilize your garden - oh, wait - that's excrement - I guess you would vote for chemicals.....

You are preaching to the wrong girl. - Contrary Mary

[ In Reply To ..]
Oh, that life could still be that you could go milk the cow before school and the bucolic scene of 5 or 6 cows grazing in a lush green pasture.

Did you know ...

...that the manure from a dairy milking 200 cows produces as much nitrogen as is in the sewage from a community of 5,000-10,000 people? Or that the annual litter from a typical broiler house of 22,000 birds contains as much phosphorus as is in the sewage from a community of 6,000 people?

Have you taken a drive lately and seen the lovely little scene described above? Iowa State sizes beef lots on 500 cow units. There is a new permit in process in the area for a 25,000 animal unit hog farm.

What size is your garden? I am sure these owners would love to find another place for the excess excrement.

I'd gladly go back to 50s, 60s and 70s.

One huge factor is that we didn't have that many people in our country then and we didn't pollute as much.

I am so sick of things being regulated.

This net neutrality thing is just another take over by government and our bills will go out the roof. I for one pay way too much for what little entertainment I get, yet if I didn't take this particular packages, I could not watch much of anything. So unless I don't have a job any longer and have to depend on my measly SS and tiny pension, then I guess I have no choice. They raise it up and put all sorts of fees on it. I am sick of things being passed to the consumer that companies themselves should pay and declare on their taxes, which they probably do in addition to charging all of us more.

Okay, you all think these regulations are good. I am also sick of the way the nanny state is telling us what to eat. The big thing is that food companies need to stop putting so much sodium and sugar in things. I remember in the 50s, 60s and 70s, things were not as salty as they are now. My mother cooked good home cooked meals, not out of a box or a can. I think we all survived well. Wish we could go back to that without it costing an arm and a leg for raw vegetables and fruits.

Anyway, you wait, they will want to have us wear a monitor to see how much air we are breathing some day.

Arsenic, DDT, 3-mile Island - sm

[ In Reply To ..]
Now those were some good things from the good ol' days, eh?

What I am curious about is why do you blame the government for the private food companies making cheap food that is basically nutrient-free with huge amounts of salt and sugar? I would recommend a book "Salt, Sugar, Fat" (I think is the name.) It tells how the food manufacturers have spent a huge amount of money determining just the right amount of the above ingredients to satisfy people's cravings and sell more junk food. Look at the rampant obesity in our country.

I think there is a similar documentary on Netflix (or available at a library).

I find cooking "without a box" is cheaper than convenience food and much healthier. I also grow much of the food that we eat the most of. Actually a bag of frozen broccoli at $1.00 is a lot cheaper than a bag of potato chips at $2.50. You can get many pounds of potatoes for $2.50 and make lots and lots of "oven fries."

So who is telling you what to eat and what are they telling you to eat?

The answer to your problem with the cost of the internet is still capitalism--in that there needs to be more competition. Do you really want 1 or 2 provider choices who are going to decide what information you will have access to?

Love Canal (not the Love Boat) - Thx for the memories

[ In Reply To ..]
In the 1940’s a strange smell enveloped the area around the Love Canal near Niagara Falls. Residents also began to notice an odd seepage leaking into their yards and people began to fall ill. In addition, many women began to have miscarriages and give birth to babies with birth defects. Upon inspection, it was discovered that there was over 21,000 tons of toxic industrial waste buried below the surface of the town by a local company.

So many things wrong with the 50s,60s and - 70s that created this environment

[ In Reply To ..]
The 1970s was the beginning of the realization of the need for EPA regulation and that we were polluting ourselves to DEATH.

I do NOT UNDERSTAND how the Republican party can bury their heads in the sand regarding science and want deregulation and removal of EPA restrictions and in some cases removal of EPA entirely. I think they have no memory and no knowledge of the history of the environmental controls that are and should be in place. Sure, I understand unfettered capitalism, make as much money as possible and rape the land, but I don't understand why anyone not directly involved in making that money would support it. The short-term savings to you will be minimal. They will not pass it on. Once they have achieved this level of prices, they aren't going to drop significantly.

And when it effects the big picture, something more than whether you are going to keep trash in your yard that gathers water that breeds mosquitoes, something like millions of gallons of XYZ chemical that is gong to poison you, your children and people miles and miles away, government has to make and enforce laws to protect people.

This just goes on and on. It is the reason we live in a society such as the United States. You want to free range, go to southern Asia, live in a tent, barter with your neighbors, eat raw goat or something.
