For those interesting in politics: Rangel Found Guilty of 11 counts!

Posted: Nov 16, 2010

You all were so interested in bashing Sam and I didn't see this article posted yet. Funny, he couldn't get his way that he walked out of the hearing yesterday. I think that might have ticked the other lawmakers off justa teeny bit:

(Reuters) - Democratic Representative Charles Rangel, the former chief tax writer in Congress and a veteran politician, was convicted on Tuesday by fellow lawmakers of ethics violations.

An eight-member congressional panel found Rangel, 80, guilty of 11 counts, including failing to report rental income, improper use of a rent-stabilized apartment and soliciting charitable donations from people with business before Congress.

The House of Representatives ethics committee will now consider punishment, which will likely be a public denunciation by the full House, possibly this week.

I'm happy that his little snit fit did not hold up the proceedings. Sounds like he's only going to get a slap on the hand, though.

Now, how about Tim Geithner and all the other politicos who don't pay their taxes? Both sides of the aisle should be raided.

Agreed! BOTH sides of the aisle! nm - sam

Next? Is it still on for Maxine? Or did I miss the outcome of that one?

Too late for Geithner since he's one of Obama's pets, but how about Barney and Chris Dodd? I just wish they would have done something about Frank Raines when he was head of Fannie May/Freddie Mac. He's still living high off the hog last I knew.

Let us not forget - that this is a glass house

You are sounding kinda smug so I feel inclined to remind you of Tom Delay, Lewis Libby, Karl Rove, Aberto Gonzales, Larry Craig, Meg Whitman, oh yes, GWB, and on and on and on--now to eternity.

I'm not "sounding kinda smug", as you put it, I'm just hopeful that our REPRESENTATIVES are waking up and start doing the right thing by us.

Corruption and greed should have no place in this country. I'm hopeful that others will heed the warning but, I doubt it. Anyway, he will probably only get a slap on the wrist and no true 'punishment.'

The fact of the day! Must be something in their genetic makeup?

I would never even have thought to look for it. However, it did make interesting reading. The most interesting part was the much higher numbers of Republicans who were found guilty resigned, and the higher numbers of Democrats did not.

Also, one major discrepancy I noticed that really pretty much stinks...the Republican Libby was sentenced to jail time for perjury and obstruction of justice. Bill Clinton was guilty of the same thing, we all witnessed him doing it on TV, was impeached but not convicted. First because the Dems circled the wagons and none of them were going to vote to convict, and not enough Republicans had the guts to do so. That's sad, that a man used the office of POTUS to shield him from the law (showing MARKED lack of character)and poor ol' Libby had to do some time. Yes, Bush pardoned him later, and based on Bill getting away with it, I don't have a problem with that. In my opinion Bill should have resigned. Oh well.

And then you have Charlie Rangel...he has been in trouble HOW many times? And how many times has Pelosi protected him?

This list, on the face of it, shows me that more Republicans got caught and most of them faced the music, while the Democrats stayed until they were indicted by a grand jury where pelosi couldn't help them anymore. Based on that, I give the Republicans props for owning up after discovery. Dems, not so much. And they keep electing these people.

So based on what someone said in post below about Republicans being genetically flawed (don't think it has to do with genetics in either party), I am led to believe by looking at this list objectively both parties have character flaws, however, when caught the Republicans have enough character left to resign, while the Democrats ride the train as far as they can and many times keep getting voted in.

So I would say a higher percentage of Republicans got caught and their party did not circle the wagons for them, but a higher percentage of the Democrats caught did not resign and were supported and protected in their wrongdoing by their party and in some cases, their constituents.

Hmmmm. Never would have thought to go there if you had not posted this. Thanks for that!

LOL! I knew you would grasp at straws. Thanks for - the laugh

or even fair about it. Has any sense of fairness been excised from the Democratic party (well at least the one/ones posting here and in Washington)? If you are any example, it has. I at least have the ability to look at both sides and see the bad and congratulate those who, when caught, have the guts to resign instead of having to be dragged out kicking and screaming when their cronies can no longer hide them.

With that kind of pervasive attitude, I can see why your party got hijacked by the hard left. I just hope enough conservative Democrats and moderate Democrats will take a hard look this and decide to take their party BACK.

I guess we can assume YOU won't be leading that charge. ROFL.

Yep, vintage Barney. Well, you answered my question. - sam
[ In Reply To ..]
I guess this attitude IS representative of the Democrats on this board. And by the way...you have never tried to engage in a conversation. You post something one-sided, I try to even it up (as Indpendents do, they see both sides as they have no investment in either). And when I even it up, you get your knickers in a knot and attack like you are still in junior high.

If that what floats your boat, fine.

I think there was a whole lot more to that shellacking that I even thought.

And your President said he wanted to bring everybody together. Geez, I guess you missed THAT memo.

LOL.
That is one of my all time favorite quotes - Thank you so much - nm

Riiiight. News flash. It's still politics if we don't agree with - you.
[ In Reply To ..]
But, you just don't get that do you?
Well, it would be more adult to say "I don't agree with you..." - sam
[ In Reply To ..]
but, hey...if you choose the junior high stalking method, be my guest. And you might include some reasons why you don't agree...that is if you can muster a coherent one. THAT is what I DO get.
Why do you keep replying? It's insane on your part. - ?

Found This Interesting....Oct 25, 2012
With such a tight race between Obama and Romney, I got to thinking what would happen if neither candidate got 270 electoral votes.  For anyone who cares...this is what I found: What happens if no presidential candidate gets 270 Electoral votes? If no candidate receives a majority of Electoral votes, the House of Representatives elects the President from the 3 Presidential candidates who received the most Electoral votes. Each state delegation has one vote. The Senate would elect the Vice ...
