Maybe you all should just read the requirements for photo ID posted on the PA web site.

BTW, PA had also advertised that they would pick people up and take them to DMV Centers if they had no transportation or money.

There is no such thing as a poll tax in the PA voter ID law. It's free. Facts are facts.

....the inconvenience (or, for some people, the great difficulty) of getting to the DMV to get the I.D. For some people, if they don't have their original driver's licenses and they are extremely poor, even the cost of obtaining a copy of their birth certificate is a burden for them. It probably depends on the state of your birth, but for one person, they said they would be very hard pressed to come up with the $27 it costs them to get the copy of their birth certificate so they could then get the I.D. So, even if the state advertises that they will pick you up and take you to the DMV, that's only part of the problem for some.

I bet there are more than a few MTs on this site who can understand the issue of finding an extra $27 (or whatever their state's cost) for something other than a life-sustaining necessity.

Sorry...don't know where THAT came from in my last post (LOL). I meant to say (and in my HEAD I was typing) "...their original birth certificates...." That makes a whole lot of difference in what I was trying to convey. :-(

I do see, in the link you posted, the state's process for obtaining the I.D. for voting purposes only, which doesn't require a birth certificate. It still sounds like it will be a fairly time-consuming process, though (the applicant waits while the agency CALLS to confirm them....on EACH applicant!?), and one which I can imagine a lot of really elderly citizens would have trouble conducting. If you don't think so, you don't know some of the very elderly citizens I've seen and known!

It appears that maybe the possibility of voter restriction (or making it next-to-impossible for some people to vote) has been resolved for the state of PA; and for that, I'm very, very appreciative. If the officials want to be sure they don't appear to be playing politics, things like this (voter I.D. requirements) need to be put into place right AFTER a huge election....not just before.

I think what they might do is set up some sort of 'phone bank' where there are a lot of people who would make calls.

This is pretty new and they have been tweaking it all along, so they may come up with a better way after election. I think that's one of the reasons the judge put a hold on it.

Other states are watching PA and may implement the same type of rules if this takes effect. PA's ID rules are the toughest in the nation.

The only reason he's putting it on hold is because he thought there would be more IDs completed by this time.

It is not outlawed, just can't be done for this election.

then the PA Supreme Court sent it back to the judge to rewrite it. Now the time issue is in play, though originally it was upheld in plenty of time to be implemented before the election. Did I misunderstand?

Maybe they were to rewrite part of the ways to obtain proof of citizenship and maybe that's why they kept tweaking it up to now.

I guess all we can do is watch and wait to see the final outcome.

or separated, or for some reason your name or address has changed, you might not be able to vote. I guess homeless people will lose their rights too because they don't have a permanent address.

I live in a rural state and I have always had to show my ID (even though those working at the polling place know me personally) to vote. Everyone that I know has some sort of ID, either a driver's license, a birth certificate, a social security card, etc. My state does not require a photo ID, although I am aware that some states do require that. they are requiring photo ID to get into their convention. Some very good tweets in response to this at Twitchy. I loved the one pointing out the fact that the state IDs are free and that the people Dems argued would be shut out of voting still would need the very same public transportion or whatever to get the ID for the convention! Recently conservative media has been saying that all the polls are wrong (presumably even Fox's poll)...lol.
