Filibuster time! Gooooo Cruz and others

Posted: Sep 24, 2013

Before all you haters (dems) start spitting out hateful remarks remember how wonderful you thought it was when that witch from Texas pulled this just for the sake of killing babies (abortion).  You all thought she was a freaking awesome goddess.

;

$1.2 million raised immediately after her filibuster was - freaking awesome, indeed.

Don't kid yourself. Ted Cruz is no Wendy Davis. In fact, to quote one senior GOP aide, "It is disappointing to see that Wendy Davis has more balls than Ted Cruz."

Wendy's party was behind her 1000%. Her supporters traveled from all over the state to stand with her. All Cruz has accomplished so far is a chorus of mocking from GOP counterparts in the House and sending his fellow GOP senators stampeding toward the exit, leaving the chambers nearly empty by the time he started his 2016 stump rant. Doomed to fail from the get-go.

He's made some very good points. One of the few - that actually care about us

He doesn't care about you. He cares about himself and his bid for 2016, period. If you'll remember a few days ago, he was saying that he didn't think it would pass and was hemming and hawing, but once he got the backlash from the extremists, he changed his stance. He's only doing this to solidify his base come 2016. I can't stand to even look at him. He's slimy and slithery. Cares about you, pfft.

"I do not like green eggs with ham." - You mean like that?

Yes, because we don't want people with pre-existing conditions to have coverage... - UareAntiPeople

[ In Reply To ..]
We don't want seniors to have lower drug costs.

We don't want people who cannot access health insurance and therefore medicine to have help.

We don't care that desperate people end up in ERs, can't pay, and those costs are passed on to everyone else.

We don't care that drug companies currently can dictate who lives and who dies.

Ha! That's what right-wing ideology is all about, which, I don't care what you say, is completely anti-Christianity and anti-humanism, too. It's the attitude of "I've got mine, so I don't care who else suffers." Those who are struggling are very unwise to support the very people who shoot them in the foot, and I would say that would be most of the people who vote for these Big-Business-Lovers and Anti-People politicians.

Isn't it remarkable that the states who take the most from the federal government are the very ones that have the highest number of Republicans? They hate and block unions, so they earn less than the rest of the country. They claim they don't like social programs, but they're poor and rely heavily on aid. That statistics prove it. Now they don't want Obamacare so they can go without insurance coverage and pull the rest of the nation down. So sick of it.

finally getting the discredit they deserve from Republican leadership and Senate Republicans.

I have a feeling the TP is on the road to a series of last hurrahs. The legit Republicans are finally gettin' out the ol' hack saw to begin ridding themselves of the TP ball and chain.

I was under the impression that filibusterers (that's a tongue twister!) had to stay on topic. He read Dr. Seuss books to his kids at home. That's cute, but I recall when Wendy Davis veered only slightly off-topic, she was shut down.

Senator Cruz was fantastic! He's getting a lot of praise from a lot of people - Truthhurts

[ In Reply To ..]
BTW, someone used the moniker Truth. Just to clear things up, that wasn't me.

Anyway, his points were well taken. The letters he received from people all over the country, the tweets he received, even the letter from Jimmy Hoffa clearly showed truth.

For the person asking about the filibuster. This is not a filibuster as such because questions are allowed to be asked by others. So far, and more than once, questions have come from Senators Paul (R), Lee(R), Vitter (R), Roberts (R), Sessions (R), Rubio (R), Enzi (R), Inhofe (R), Durbin (D), and Kaine (D).
Sen. Cruz is "yielding for questions but not yielding the floor.

This morning at 11:40, Harry Reid came to the floor and tried to stop Senator Cruz. to stifle Cruz! He was getting frustrated because Cruz was smarter than him. He asked Cruz if he could ask a question, then tried to make a speech so Cruz took back his time.

Sen. Cruz told him if he had some direct questions he should have asked them over the past 21 hours. Reid wanted him to stop immediately by blocking questions from other Senators but Cruz had the floor until noon. Reid was trying to stop other lawmakers from asking questions in these 20 minutes by breaking into Sen. Cruz’s answers to questions by others. He also tried to stop it by asking for Parliamentary rules (which would have taken the rest of Cruz's time) and Cruz stated no because it wasn’t a question.

The look on old Harry's face was priceless. His frustration was undeniable that he couldn't shut him down.

When time was up, old Harry had the gall to state that time was being wasted with Senator Cruz's speech and they could have spent that time in debate, then made a speech for another 20 minutes. It was a debate. All the other side had to do was ask questions if they so desired but they went home.

It's a shame that some people can't see past the end of their nose where this Congress is concerned. Schumer got up and lied again about the Republicans wanted to shut down the government. Geez, again, let me say that every agency of this government is being FUNDED EXCEPT Obamacare. That's Congress' prerogative. They hold the purse strings. Then Schumer said people won't get their Social Security checks. Another lie.

There was an article in my local paper by the AP headlined: "Here's the truth: The federal government doesn't shut down."
People should read it. It explains a whole lot.

I can only hope that Senator Cruz got through to some Democrats with his stance over the past 21 hours and can see the light. There was a lot said and people commenting on this through emails, letters, and telephone calls.

And what exactly did he accomplish, besides - grandstanding?

[ In Reply To ..]
Do you really think he's going to change any democrats' minds? I don't. I think it was a waste of time. Reading children's books and quoting song lyrics isn't going to sway anyone's opinion. There are plenty in the GOP who understand this and do not support his tactics.

Though I do think it's ironic that Green Eggs and Ham's moral lesson is that it's better to try something before you reject it.

Thanks Truth Hurts. I agree. - Proud American

While I didn't get a chance to listen to the whole thing because I was working, I was filled in on what was going on. My husband, who is pretty "political savvy" would fill me in on what was going on. He'd come out of his office with a big grin and say "he's really nailing them". One thing I have to say about Cruz is he's at least doing something to try and help. All the other traitors are just that. They don't care about us and this has shown the country that. I heard Cruz said something to the effect of if you are not here to help the people who ARE you here for. Unfortunately most of them are there for themselves. Democrats have never been for the people and they are proving it. Well maybe back in JFKs time, but now it's just infiltrated with politicians who are only there to enrich their own lives. Like Pelousy said to a newcomber democrat into congress "If you weren't a millionaire before, you will now be one".

I think this is really showing the country how little they care about the people they are supposed to represent and looking forward to the change this next election. I think people are waking up.

My husband said if Cruz can get through to just one or two democrats then that is good. I guess it's all you can hope for.

Cruz is getting a lot of support from the people in the country thanking him for doing the best he can to help us. Of course there will still be the haters, but I truly believe that they are the minority of the country. They just scream and whine the loudest and that's why people think there are so many.

Most Americans don't want this. Especially since congress is refusing to be imprisoned under the same system. That tells you a lot.

Thanks for all your posts. As usual your research, input and opinions are VERY welcome here and 100% right on (well maybe 99.9% - I'll take off the .1% as I'm sure there is something I disagree with LOL, but right now can't think of anything. You hit everything spot on.

Well, that makes two of you. He didn't even get through to his own party. They are - very annoyed w/himNM

That was the most roundabout way to accomplish nothing I have seen--very impressive!

Ted Cruz is a waste of taxpayers' time and money. I do not understand how Republicans can support this political grandstanding and mistake it for protection.

Republicans Filibuster Their OWN Bill!Dec 06, 2012
Senate Minority Leader Mitch McConnell (R-KY) wanted to prove on Thursday that Democrats don’t have the votes to weaken Congress’ authority on the debt limit. Instead they called his bluff, and he ended up filibustering his own bill. The legislation, modeled on a proposal McConnell offered last year as a “last-choice option” to avert a U.S. debt default, would permit the president to unilaterally lift the debt ceiling unless Congress mustered a two-thirds majority to stop him.
