Cruz must not want to be president either

There are times when you just need to have the versatility to change the script, hold back, have some respect.

Ted Cruz screwed up tonight. Then, he did something - far rarer in politics, he

apologized.

On Wednesday night, while addressing a group of Republicans in Michigan, GOP presidential candidate Texas Sen. Ted Cruz continued what is apparently a Cruz-on-the-campaign-trail tradition: he told a joke about Vice President Joe Biden.

Of course, this time was different. Biden's son, Beau, passed away Saturday night at 46. The funeral is set for this weekend.

Now, politicians say dumb stuff all the time. But, they rarely do what Cruz did afterwards -- apologize unequivocally.

Politicians, like most human beings, find it difficult to admit their failings. Most have also been told repeatedly by political operatives and strategists that apologies only extend a story, spurring stories about the mistake, the apology, the quality of the apology and the subsequent public reaction.

But, Cruz said simply what so many others have not.

It was a mistake. I'm sorry. Enough said.

Good on him.

We'll see which GOP establishment candidate tries to keep this alive. They are just like the Democrats.

Cruz made a mistake and said he was sorry - no punches pulled. That makes him a stand up guy.

Interesting to read on Cruz' own FB page how many seem to dislike him.

I tend to agree that he should have been aware and more sensitive about this one. Poor taste, poor timing and lack of planning---not good qualities in a president.

He talks about the president of Canada. Canada actually has a prime minister, not a president.

He talked over the National Anthem in Buckingham Palace. The press gave him a pass. They always do.

He signed the guestbook at Westminster Abbey during a tour of the Grave of the Unknown Warrior. Problem is, the year was off by 3 years.

There are whole websites with Obama-isms. His remarks on history are downright embarrassing.

I remember during the Paul Wellstone died, the Democrats - turned it into a political rally.

Every single public person would have mistakes, but what Cruz did was an insult and disrespectful.

As per usual, his "apology" is typical Sorry Not Sorry. He is not nice and I for one cannot stand to listen to him for more than a few seconds, he is a nasty nasty man.

I guess we can give Cruz an excuse that Biden's family crisis just wasn't on his radar (or he just didn't give a damn), depends on whether you want to cut Cruz a break. Me, personally, I think he is evil incarnate and could do without him entirely...no loss.
