I know. I've read seen the numbers on that through the years - Always drops in the 2nd year of office

[ In Reply To ..]
That is so strange, isn't it?!

There were huge drops for some presidents, like Reagan for example, which you wouldn't expect since so many people loved him. All of the statistics were surprising to me.

The lead-in to the article says it all...even with - a 21% drop, if you accept

[ In Reply To ..]
a drop:

Fox News has the top 12 most-watched shows so far this year.

Which is perhaps not totally surprising since this marks the network's ninth straight year as the number one channel in cable.

I think Fox is fine, I think the American people are fine, and I don't understand the almost pathological need of some people to Bash fox and the tea party. Just sayin'. lol.

My big fear is that the 21% doesn\'t think Fox is conservative enough for them. - It\'s scary out there. LOL. nm

nm

I don't think that Fox is conservative enough - Not too much different from any other news station

[ In Reply To ..]
I am far more conservative than what Fox reports. When it comes down to it, they tend to lean a little left, as well. They just pretend to be conservative. I would rather watch Fox than MSNBC, but that's not saying much.

That comment is just plain silly or delusional - I think you are pulling our collective legs here

[ In Reply To ..]
LOL.
And I think that you are silly or delusional. - Trust me, I would not touch your leg.
[ In Reply To ..]
Just because you disagree with me doesn't mean that you needed to be nasty.

I'm in that 21% - Let me tell you why

[ In Reply To ..]
Mostly Glenn Beck, O'Reilly and Hannity.

Glen Beck: He hasn't been hitting them like he used to. He used to talk about the important issues going on in our govt. And I haven't even seen his Founding Father Fridays in months. Now those were great episodes to watch. I heard (forget where) that he was told to "cool it" with talking about Soros and other politicians. He caved, I quit watching. Now every time I turn it on he's talking about his blasted religion as though people are supposed to believe/live the way he does.

O'Reilly: The grand inquisitor. Got sick of he and his enterage of ladies (culture warriors, blah, blah, blah). Got tired of his arrogant attitude.

Hannity: Now that guy is just plain rude. He has guests on and insults them and calls them names. He thinks he's better than anyone and he proves it. He's arrogant and ignorant. If he's going to have a guest on his show no matter how much he disagrees with them he should not be rude. Otherwise don't have the guest on.

Oh, I forgot Megan Kelly. Another of O'Reilly's girls. She should be banned from practicing law (if she still does). She gets on and gives her opinions as though they are fact. She taints peoples opinions and tries people on TV before they even have finished the trial in court.

With that said, I will get my news stories from Fox before any other news station, but...I stopped turning on Fox News about 2 weeks ago or so and don't miss it at all. I will stick to reading the news on line. TV is for entertainment.

I still like Shepard Smith though but otherwise agree with your message - Although Fox is fun to watch if you dont take it s

[ In Reply To ..]
Remember the PALM TREE fake footage of protesters recently? I LOVED watching them showing their true colors on that one. It's like a reality show gone bad, or a train wreck. You just have to watch, at least I do.

I do like Shepard Smith though. He has behaved responsibly when all those around him have not. I respect that.

All those people you mentioned are not reporters - Backwards Typist

[ In Reply To ..]
They are commentary programs and give their opinions, just like the bloggers on the internet.

Shep Smith and Brett Bauer are reporters and give the news. I watch them both.

I also gave up the first 3 you mentioned last year because DH likes First 48, American Pickers,Pawn Shop, Modern Marvels and How It's Made. So those are the programs I get to see.

I watch Megan once-in-a-while on her show, but not much.

Once again - no1joe

Jon Stewart nailed it as far as expressing my own opinion better than I can myself, especially when it recently came upon the topic of Fox News.

Anyhow, if anyone hasn't seen it yet, check out the extended interview with Bret Baier (it's a 3 parter). Stewart is a little "interrupty" which isn't normally like him, but he gets his point (which I share exactly) across perfectly.

I've been starting to feel more and more that Fox News should come with a warning label. Hopefully that 21% feels the same way.

I don't the folks at Fox are worried. They are still untouchable. Unfortunately for MSNBC and the others, no one comes close. My disclaminer: I don't get to watch very much TV in the evening, but I like to catch Greta when I can.

http://www.mediabistro.com/tvnewser/q1-2011-ratings-fox-news-1-for-9-years_b58892#disqus_thread

Fox News Channel has been the most-watched news channel for 37 consecutive quarters in Total Viewers for both total day and primetime — a streak that began nine years ago, with Q1 2002. Here’s how the network finished in Q1 2011:

    Primetime (Mon-Sun): 1.921M Total Viewers / 470K A25-54

    Total Day (Mon-Sun): 1.123M Total Viewers / 291K A25-54

In all of basic cable, Fox News was the fourth most watched network in Primetime. During the day, FNC was the sixth most-watched cable network. In both Primetime and Total Day, Fox News Channel beat CNN and MSNBC combined in total viewers.

“FOX Report” with Shepard Smith was the #3 show on cable news in A25-54 viewers and #5 in Total Viewers. While “Special Report” with Bret Baier was #5 in A25-54 viewers and #3 in Total Viewers. “The O’Reilly Factor” and “Hannity” were #1 and #2 in both categories.

Fox News had the top 12 cable news shows in Total Viewers and the top 8 in younger viewers.

While Glenn Beck and Greta Van Susteren easily made the Top 12, the shows are down the most for the network. Compared to Q1 2010, Beck was down -30% in Total Viewers and down -37% in A25-54 viewers, while “On the Record” was down -23% in Total Viewers and down -28% in younger viewers.

Greta's not bad and I love Shepard Smith - sm

I used to record dozens of their shows every week. I'm one of the 21% who have stopped watching over time. My reason was because of the inaccuracies. I found myself actually believing what I thought I was seeing, and I embarrassed myself talking about those things with friends and family and then finding out that they didn't really happen.

I used to particularly enjoy the Saturday morning stock market shows. I like their regulars. Again, it was fun to watch, but not a very good use of my time because their information wasn't accurate. I stopped recording it and have to get my information elsewhere.

Fox gets its viewers by reporting what they want to hear rather than facts - Investing In The USA!

[ In Reply To ..]
Even if they have to make up the video, they make their viewers happy. It works for them, or at least it has been working for them. Will it continue? I would guess that it will.

I'm sad about that because that's the main source for the mean-spirited attitudes and, even more importantly, the misinformation. That's scary.

So unlike MSNBC, right? Come on! And... - you are sure sad about

[ In Reply To ..]
a LOT of things. You need to change up the wording on these serial postings a lil bit. lol.

And the other side of the story....the opening - paragraph...

[ In Reply To ..]
just to keep it in perspective...even accepting a loss of 21%...

Fox News has the top 12 most-watched shows so far this year.

Which is perhaps not totally surprising since this marks the network's ninth straight year as the number one channel in cable. Um...that is in ALL cable, not just news shows. What was that you were saying about the American people?

You know, insulting those people incessantly is not helping your case...that pain in your foot you keep feeling is where you keep shooting yourself.

Just a helpful hint.

Another helpful hint... - no1joe

[ In Reply To ..]
Ratings does not equal quality.

There is also a popular ratings booster which is to be as outrageous as possible. You get 2 kinds of viewers this way: The ones who enjoy/believe the programming and the ones who do not yet tune in to see what they'll say next. If this is being employed at Fox, which some people believe it is, those ratings are based on a certain number of people who do not believe the news coming from Fox or support their POV. Therefore, trying to base the popularity and/or support of Fox's agenda, or the POV of a certain number of Americans for that matter, based on their ratings is inaccurate.

Ratings really don't mean anything except to the sponsors.

I watch FOX when I'm in the mood to see outrageous entertainment - not when I want to be informed

[ In Reply To ..]
Want to be entertained? Watch Glenn Beck or Sean Hannity. You don't go to those sources for solid information. They are entertainment.
Exactly my point - no1joe
[ In Reply To ..]
You can't base Americans' POV as being in favor of Fox and the conservative/Republican agenda based on their ratings. There is a percentage of people tuning in because they are indeed on the opposite side but want to tune in, for instance, to the Beck side show for its outrageous content... to be entertained, perhaps disgusted. The fact that Fox is the #1 cable show does not mean that Conservatives/Republicans are the #1 most popular political party.
May I just say midterm results...I think that - stated clearly where the
[ In Reply To ..]
heart of America is at this point. And with the things brought out at midterms have not changed, in fact are getting worse by the day, does not bode well for 2012. And it really doesn't matter what channel the TV is on...what matters is what happens in the voting booth.

I am really surprised that the DNC continues to think bashing the tea parties is going to do them anymore good than it did at midterms. Amazing.
yes, like maddow and the tingling leg fellow... - except I can't stomach
[ In Reply To ..]
that even for outrageous. Good for you that you can.

At least Fox has credible news shows and presents both views. MSNBC doesn't even try to PRETEND like they are unbiased.

Sheesh...yours is certainly showing (bias).

Then the 21% loss almost means nada. - Thank you for clearing that

[ In Reply To ..]
up for me.

And as well know...without the sponsors they ALL cease to exist.

I think the mid-terms told us exactly where the heart of America is right now...that you cannot dispute and maintain any degree of credibility.

As an Independent, and looking down thread after thread on this board...all I can see is a grassroots movement in America has all of you on the left scared spitless so all you have is Bash Fox and bash them, apparently the DNC feels the same i.e. the marching orders given to Chuck Schumer.

The jig is up, the cat is out of the bag, and the constant bashing is only making it worse.
Oh... the 21% certainly does mean something - no1joe
[ In Reply To ..]
Depends on who you ask. From the sponsors' POV, depending on the numbers, they could very well stop paying top-dollar or even pull their sponsorship completely depending on the percentage of the 21% lost that fits their target demographic. Even worse, they could start supporting the competition if it is shown that the lost percentage has moved on to another channel.

Now, from the Republican POV, it's a little different. If the large number of that 21% turns out to be libs who like to watch Beck like a bad accident and just got bored of it, they probably really won't care too much. They're not going to win them over, and the old "any publicity is good publicity" thing only goes so far and doesn't hold water when people are actually very vocally complaining about the quality of your product. It might make them a little more nervous if a large number of the 21% are conservatives/Republicans. If they're not watching, they can't effectively keep them brainwashed, but they've been stuffed enough to reflect it at the voting booths. But what will really get them upset is if the majority of that 21% percent are independents... the ones they're trying to win over. And the only thing scarier than losing them is where they might wind up... at a real news source where they will form their own political opinions.

And that midterm thing, I mean, you can hold onto that one if you like. However, the midterms are reflective of the number of people who came out and voted as well as the number of people who did not. Guess who did not. Guess who's kinda ticked off with recent events. Guess who's ticked off enough to actually get off their duff and vote this time around. I could be wrong. Guess we'll just have to wait and see.
Yep. I guess we will see, however...history - bears out it is the
[ In Reply To ..]
Independents and undecideds who make the difference. The ones I know (including myself) have not seen anything change from the situation that caused us in large numbers to vote straight Republican tickets for the first time in our lives. Not so much FOR the Republicans but AGAINST the Democrats who just don't seem to give a darn about what we think (much like yourself).

Unless enough Democrats who still support this administration turn out to vote to counter the shellacking (remember...even Massachusetts went red and put a Republican in the seat in Massachusetts...that signals to me that a lot of middle of the road Democrats were not thrilled with the current admin either)...then perhaps it will be different.

I agree...we will just have to wait and see.

For myself, I have seen nothing to make me want to do other than what I did in the midterms...that being vote a straight Republican ticket. That is the only thing I have at my disposal to change the destructive road I think the Dems continue to want to drive down.

Nice talkin to ya.
Recent events have convinced me that I don't want anymore Republicans elected - even though I had previously voted for them
[ In Reply To ..]
I won't say never again, but I can't imagine ever voting for a Republican again. That could change depending on the person, but I don't see that happening.
and Yes, I am angry at the Republicans - in case you wondered
[ In Reply To ..]
I am very angry and disgusted at the behavior, especially of some of the newly-elected ones. I'm hoping the recall process helps. If not, we'll see how many others have regretted their votes for Republican. Things may change. Nobody knows at this point how it will go, of course.
I've seen that happening too - no1joe
[ In Reply To ..]
I had a very interesting conversation with my conservative-now-liberal father. I adore my father, but this is the same man who would call me a "bleeding heart" or "!#*@! liberal" or "Meathead" before I could even finish a sentence. I was SHOCKED at what he had to say! Another case of Pubs losing a diehard member. And, of course, at the end of the conversation, I called him a Meathead. He just shrugged his shoulders.
We've seen this happen before in history, people switching sides - I think we are seeing it again but we will see
[ In Reply To ..]
When a party overreaches, as in this case the Republicans have done, they lose some supporters that have been with them a long time. That's what I'm seeing, not with all my Republican friends, but with many.
I am seeing just the opposite. Independents - who are always crucial
[ In Reply To ..]
in any election, as they were in the midterms...I don't see any shifting of that group, who are shaking their heads and wondering why the Democrats did not get it.

I frankly don't care anymore why they didn't get it; it is obvious they did not and are not going to and if the majority doesn't like their agenda then they just run from a vote or thumb their noses in our faces.

Which is why I will for the second time in my life vote a straight Republican ticket in 2012.

I wish my basic cable carried MSNBC - How can the ratings be fair that way? nm
