DeFazio Says House Democrats Oppose Tax Plan Vote

Posted: Dec 9, 2010

It was stated on the news that 20 dems that were in the meeting with Biden yesterday stated they would not pass the tax compromise. There is not much on the 'net about it yet. What's up with that?

Dec. 9 (Bloomberg) -- House Democrats voted against bringing the tax agreement between President Barack Obama and congressional Republicans to the floor, Representative Peter DeFazio of Oregon said.

The resolution, which is non-binding, was approved today by voice vote during a party caucus, he said. House Speaker Nancy Pelosi expressed no opposition, DeFazio said. He said the vote would give Democratic leaders license to force the Senate and White House back to the bargaining table.

A little bit more on this, but not much:

House Leaders Plan Separate House VoteMar 20, 2010
Democrats edged closer to finding 216 lawmakers to back a landmark health-care bill Saturday, as party leaders and White House officials were working on an executive order that they hope will win over a substantial number of antiabortion Democrats. The House Rules Committee continued its session on the third floor of the Capitol, where the panel is tasked with setting the terms of Sunday's floor debate. House leaders have decided to take a separate vote on the Senate version of the healt ...

How Democrats Plan To Cut Food Stamps WithoutDec 11, 2013
How Democrats Plan to Cut Food Stamps Without Enraging Their Base By Meredith Shiner For Democrats especially, any talk about cutting billions from the Supplemental Nutrition Assistance Program is uncomfortable and certain to create internal strife. But negotiators on the farm bill believe they’ve found a way to make about $8 billion in savings from the program palatable for most Democrats. The key is eliminating a loophole that enables states to help some low-income residents with no ...

Republican-led House Blocks Obama Immigration PlanDec 04, 2014
Washington (AFP) - In a symbolic rebuke to US President Barack Obama's unilateral action on immigration, the Republican-led House of Representatives voted Thursday to block his plan to shield millions of people from deportation. The bill, which passed 219-197 along party lines, was introduced by conservatives furious with what they consider Obama's abuse of power when he announced his executive order last month. But it is unlikely to reach the floor of the Senate, where Obama's ...

Democrats Plan To Win Elections With Illegal Alien VotesMar 03, 2015
The Obama Democrats have an audacious scheme for winning future elections. They just plan to import 5 million non-citizens and credential them as voters who will, in gratitude, vote Democratic. The way this devious formula works is stunningly simple. Just get the new Republican Congress (under Speaker John Boehner and Sen. Mitch McConnell) to pass a full-funding bill for Homeland Security without any exception for the funding of Obama's illegal executive amnesty, which will allow Obama to ...

They really want to go home tomorrow so they're doing in one day what they should have been doing in 6 years, working and voting on important bills instead of complaining about the other side by the Majority Leader and blocking every bill that was sent over by the House. :)Wonder what they'll do with the Doc Fix bill.  ...

Boehner's Support For His Plan B Collapses, So Closes House For Holidays And Leaves,Dec 21, 2012
After the tea partiers who said they were behind him on his Plan B in the morning backed out later in the day, Speaker Boehner closed the House for the holidays. This all happened so fast they were literally wheeling in carts of food for a late night of lawmaking work when the House abruptly adjourned and they all walked out without voting on their own measure. He must be bitterly disappointed. As someone said, "Every time this guy takes a foot forward, he gets slammed in the back of the head ...

Looks Like Democrats Have The 60-vote Majority!Nov 21, 2009
In a show of unity, Senate Democrats sealed a 60-vote majority needed to advance health care legislation Saturday ahead of an evening showdown with Republicans eager to doom the bill and inflict a punishing defeat on President Barack Obama. Two final holdouts, Sens. Mary Landrieu of Louisiana and Blanche Lincoln of Arkansas, announced in speeches a few hours apart on the Senate floor they would vote to clear the way for what is expected to be a bruising, full-scale health care debate after Than ...

House Defeats TPA By A Huge Vote.Jun 12, 2015
The vote was 302-126. The House killed a worker aid bill that was tied to the president's main agenda item -- legislation that would give Obama "fast-track" authority to negotiate trade deals. Without it, the trade push withers for now. The vote marked a stunning blow for the president at the hands of his own party, with Nancy Pelosi and labor unions helping drive the stake into the legislation in the end. The biggest defection for Obama came when Pelosi joined the rebellion in opposi ...

House Democrats Send Wrong SignalNov 21, 2010
I think Pelosi's ego needs some downgrading. Our country does not need "me-me" politicians.  We need to watch them closely (and I'm not just talking about Pelosi-even though I can't stand her) but this article shows how much she doesn't care for protocol or the rules.   When the rules of the House of Representatives forced the Democrats to confront a painful choice among their leaders, they did what Democrats are often inclined to do. They changed the ru ...

House Democrats Lash Out At Nancy PelosiNov 18, 2014
The incoming House minority leader is about to be in the worst position with her caucus since the end of Democrats’ short-lived majority in 2010. But after quietly grumbling about Pelosi since suffering devastating losses on Election Day,Democrats’ discontent with her is spilling out into the open. “They wiped the floor with ...

House May Vote On Bill Tonight. Back To Teetering On Edge.Jan 01, 2013
1. House conservatives opposed want to add $300 billion in spending cuts that the Senate deferred for 60 days. This would kill the bill for now. House Whip supposedly looking for the 217 votes that would be needed to add the amendment.  2. If the 217 votes are not found, Speaker Boehner is telling his caucus he would like to put the bill (without addition of a kill-it-dead amendment) to the House for an up-or-down vote. If that happened, moderate GOP and Dems would come together to almost ...
