I'd prefer he hadn't called them names, but he DID live through it, and you can certainly see where he's coming from. Today's crew would burn down their own barn to spite someone who wanted to board his horse.

In an interview with the Daily Beast published Friday, Rep. Charlie Rangel (D-NY) suggested Tea Partiers are the "same group" who fought for segregation during the Civil Rights movement.

â��It is the same group we faced in the South with those white crackers and the dogs and the police. They didnâ��t care about how they looked," Rangel said.

Because of this, Rangel said the Tea Party could be defeated using the same tactics employed against Jim Crow.

"It was just fierce indifference to human life that caused America to say enough is enough. â��I donâ��t want to see it and I am not a part of it.â�� What the hell! If you have to bomb little kids and send dogs out against human beings, give me a break,â�� said Rangel.

Poor choice of words, I think, especially if you take them out of context. People could focus on those two words and get all uptight or they could read the entire statement regarding what he said.

He's not the only one who thinks that some in the Tea Party are motivated by racism. Hard not to come to that conclusion when you see some of the signs they hold up at rallies, watch as they wave their Confederate flags, and hear some of their speakers talk about "breeding" and "racial purity" at Tea Party rallies against immigration.

Examples of Tea Party Signs:
1. Obama's Plan is White Slavery
2. The American Taxpayers are the Jews for Obama's Ovens
3. Barack Hussein Obama, The New Face Of Hitler
4. Some Kenyan Tries to Destroy America, Homey Don't Play Dat
5. Hey Big Brother, Show Us Your Real Birth Certificate
6. Save White America

Okay, I'll stop there, but you get the idea why someone might come to the conclusion that some in the Tea Party are motivated by racism.

In my opinion, it is hypocrisy and racism that will be the end of the Tea Party. Racism for the obvious reasons and hypocrisy because the sad truth is that the Tea Party and Republicans in general are okay with big government as long as it is a Republican administration expanding healthcare with the expansion of Medicare and the addition of Part D, and they are okay with losing their civil liberties as long as a white Republican is the one in the White House taking their freedoms away in the name of fighting "the war on terrorism."

racism, no need to just read a sign on the news here and there. Social scientists have been studying these people all along. They started out a broad group of caring citizens dissatisfied with both parties; but after being organized for libertarian goals by the Koch brothers mostly, and other cynical manipulators, all that's left these days are extreme reactionary authoritarian followers who'll do as they're told, most strongly characterized by racism, with a good dash of mostly fundamentalist religion.

The only question is, do they finish destroying the GOP before they finish destroying what started out as a decent, honorable movement, or vice versa?

First, it doesn't matter what context they were used in. Racist comments belong nowhere. It doesn't matter what race is saying them or what race it is being directed at. It also does not matter if people try and nitpick as to the origins of words. If you go down that line, every racial slur can be picked apart to try and make it look like it's innocent.

I'm not tea party. Some of what they say I agree with, some I don't. I don't really pay much attention to them, but I support their right to freedom of speech.

While their signs #1 and 5 are correct and acceptable, I don't agree with the other signs. But then again I've seen some pretty bad signs the democrats have had too. Both sides do it.

I don't think the Tea Party is going anywhere and people need to get used to that idea. If you think the Tea Party will be going away, that's like thinking the democrat, republican or other political party is going away. Political parties just don't "go away". Even if they were to "go away" hypocrisy will continue to remain alive and thrive well in the democrat party (and others too). It's in all parties. So is racism. Racism is not unique to one party. There are a lot of racists in the democrat party too. Racism is not just in one party, its rampant through the country and in all races. In fact, if you were to research the history, it was the republican party who freed the slaves.

Calling people the N word or crackers or other derogatory remarks regarding someone's race is wrong (especially when you call for the killing of all crackers and the cracker babies too). It is racist and it is offensive.

a vestigial middle class that sold them things, and the rest of the free whites in the old South were overwhelmingly poor. That basically stayed that way until the Civil Rights Act of 1964 encouraged business to finally open factories in the south and create jobs.

This means, BTW, that many older southerners who have worked so hard to build our current billionaire class actually remembered what it was to be dirt poor, gazing after the wealthy as they tooled down the county's only good roads--the ones the wealthy used. And they did it anyway.

What's even better is all the ones who defend them calling white people racists names. After all we deserve it. Didn't do anything to anyone of any race and neither did anyone in my family, but yeah, hey go for it. Why waste an opportunity to call us a racist name. Kind-a like never waste a good crisis.

It doesn't matter who says it against which group--it's all low class and none of it invites productive dialogue.

That, however, does not change the fact that the Tea Party is extreme and is tearing apart the GOP.
