Can someone tell me WHY Democrats, especially Reid and Obama

Posted: Sep 29, 2013

are against delaying Obamacare for a year? Watching C-Span and the House has been voting on funding the government again. One part of this bill is the vote on DELAYING the healthcare law until 1/1/2015. What the heck is wrong with that? After all, Obama DELAYED certain aspects of the law until 2015.  Delaying the healthcare law does not repeal it. Delaying the healthcare law doesn't defund it. So, what's wrong with that? Obama and Reid will not negotiate. That's not how the Congress and president are supposed to work.Who is being an obstructionist now?

BTW, when Obama delayed parts of the healtcare law, in essence he broke the law. Only Congress can change the law.

I sure hope they stand strong. My state will be expanding Medicaid - once the ACA is fully implemented.

Which I'll be eligible for this coming year what with having an income less than 138% of poverty level (thanks, MT profession!) and *need* ASAP.

So maybe that's WHY. They know that there are up to 40 million others like me who are uninsured and desperately need what the ACA will provide.

How sad, but that's what happens with Obama - hurting the middle class..

We are ALL now poor!! ...and Medicaid expansion is not a GOOD thing. It will eventually bankrupt the states. We are just falling further and further into poverty as a nation.

Right, Obama's responsible for VR and the offshoring of MT that have affected me. - surely he's to blame for the Civil War too

I was going to copy some of the pictures from there, where some of my neighbor's houses were swallowed up by coal ash, but I couldn't get them pasted in. Just type in Tennessee coal plant disaster in your search and look at some of the images. This happened in 2008 and I have moved since then, but I was back through there on vacation last year (2012) and it is still destroyed around there. Please tell me and the folks who lived there why you don't want to find alternatives to coal plants.

Because they don't care about us - simple as that - The Sarge

[ In Reply To ..]
And they are showing exactly that to the country. Delaying this is the only responsible thing to do. You CANNOT penalize the working class to pay for everyone else, while exempting all their buddies and poor. They don't have all the glitches out, nobody knows who is reading all our private information. There is more to this than many here will understand.

Democrats (especially Reid, Pelosi & Obama) simply don't care about us. This is not an easy dunk everyone will now be covered and we'll all live happily ever after. It's a mess. The democrats are holding the American people hostage with this and like petulant little children are throwing a temper tantrum if they are not getting their way or if anyone is asking questions.

Republicans are trying to help the American people so that we who are struggling to survive are not caught footing the bill for everyone else who is not. I've heard the republicans have some very good ideas about making health care more affordable, but as usual democrats will not even listen. Their "its my way or the highway" attitude prove they truly are the obstructionists in government.

If you are going to delay it for some then you need to delay it for others or all. Let the people who need to sign up and get health care sign up and get health insurance, but leave the rest of us alone who are already paying insurance and are happy with what we have until they have all of it worked out.

But democrats don't negotiate and this is proving they really don't care about us. After all, why should they, they are excluding themselves. They are supposed to work with each other, not play their childish games.

You - need

[ In Reply To ..]
to educate yourself on how the plan works. First off, they are not penalizing the working class, they are helping them by offering cheaper plans, they can't deny you because of preexisting conditions, offering subsidies to help with the costs, letting your kids stay on longer. You are correct, many, like yourself don't understand.

That would be the republicans that are holding Americans hostage. They are threatening to shut the government down, not the democrats and have the it's my way or the highway attitude.

If they only signed on the people on who need to sign on and left the rest of you alone, it wouldn't work. Again, you don't understand how it works. Let me explain a little. The way insurance has always been, only people who need it get it, which in turns causes your rates to keep going up, which is why your rates are ridiculous now. This is because there are so many claims and not enough money coming in to cover only the people who need insurance. With everyone, even healthy people who don't think they need it, having insurance, the premiums can stay lower due to the fact that money is coming in from people who don't need it at this point, and this helps keep everyone's premiums lower. The plan was made to help everyone, not just you, though if you would do some research you might realize it. There are also restrictions in place as to how much profit insurance companies can make and if they go over that, they have to send the money back to the policy holders.

The president and democrats negotiated a lot during the process of this becoming law and many of the ideas are republican ideas, and I'm sure the only reason they are against it is because they didn't come up with it first. They are too busy protecting the corporations that are raping us every day and sending all our jobs overseas.

You - need - back at ya

[ In Reply To ..]
You need to stop listening to the lies being spoon fed to you.

This impacts us, the working class. We are the ones with our rates being hiked up 2 and 3 times to cover for those who are getting it for free. Not the rich, not the poor. Us. Maybe you are going to get a free ride and that's why you are so gung ho for it.

Please do not tell me to "educate myself". That is exactly what I have been doing. Maybe if you stopped listening to the people who are lying to you you might just understand what is truly going on.

No, it's the democrats who are hold us hostage. They refuse to negotiate with republicans on anything. Its the "my way or the highway" attitude. They won't even help us out by postponing this huge tax increase on us until they get it worked out. There are too many glitches in the system. They are just so intent as to raise our taxes so much and implement a socialized healthcare plans they won't even do what is right for the American people.

Government shutdown? Republicans better do something otherwise democrats will run all over them. Petulant little children whining if they don't get their way, not doing anything to help us.

If it takes a shutdown so be it. We cannot be held hostage anymore. Democrats need to learn their place. They need to work with everyone. The country isn't filled with only democrats (THANK GOD!!!). They need to stop acting like the irresponsible school bullies that they are.

Don't tell any poster on this board to "educate themselves".

that the moderator doesn't delete your post like they botched one of mine with blanks because I said somebody should listen. You have a right to your opinion and to tell me what you want. I have thick skin.

With that being said, I'll tell people to educate themselves if I want. They should instead of listening to the chicken littles of the country.

No, I'm not getting a free ride. If my taxes go up a little to help the less fortunate, then so be it. Rates for insurance will be going down for those states that are accepting the plan. I am a family of 3 and see that I can get a subsidy if we make up to 72,000+. I know the medical deduction requirement is being raised to 10% instead of 7.5%, but oh well.

Business have been cutting people's hours for many years so they don't have to provide benefits, so that's not due to Obamacare, as many will try to make you believe. They are saying the plan will keep them from hiring new workers. Don't believe that either. What it really means is they won't be raking in as big of profits as they were and using OBamacare as an excuse.

I guess threatening to shut the government down is the adult way to handle things. Maybe they should threaten to hold their breath until they turn blue if they don't get their way.

the re-election of President Obama and the rejection of the repeal candidate. Attaching ANY changes to it under the threat of government shutdown and debt default is government by extortion and blackmail, and manufactures yet ANOTHER major threat to the economy. The GOP has no business whatsoever attaching any form of defunding OR delaying Obamacare implementation to the budget or debt ceiling measures. That is one significant procedural hurdle the GOP WILL NEVER clear in their efforts to force their REJECTED agendas, which explains why our ELECTED reps who hold the White House and the Senate majority and thus control 2/3 of the legislative arms of our government will continue to stand firm.

That said, on a more practical and personal level, these are human lives we are talking about here, not just sterile vote numbers. Case in point. My son does not want to wait another year for access to medical care. He is a 36-year-old freelance audio engineer IC who until now has not been able to afford private coverage. His social life has been pretty much devastated over the last 2 years by the intrusion of full-blown clinical psoriasis into his life. He cannot afford clinic visits, diagnosis, or ongoing treatment for the condition. All he can afford to do with it at the moment is to suffer with it. Once gregarious and outgoing, he now is sullen and depressed most of the time and has real chronic problems with intractable insomnia. He is COUNTING THE DAYS until his coverage becomes effective, and plans to sign up for it this coming week.

Psoriasis is not a life-threatening condition, and in the grand scheme of things is not nearly as compelling as the stories of literally millions of previously uninsured Americans, some of whom have serious untreated medical conditions they potentially cannot not survive for one more year.

Your "in essence" comment falls on deaf ears in much the same way the what-part-of-no-do-you-not-understand-? message is not getting through to the deaf, dumb and blind House GOP. Clean CR. Take it or leave it. The TP saboteurs did not have the votes in 2012, do not have the votes now and are not going to have the votes next week, next month or next year.

I think Reid and Obama aren't interested in delaying it a year, because since 2011, every single time a budget has had to be passed or the debt ceiling has had to be raised, the House GOP, and my wonderful representative, Boehner, have threatened to shut the government down to get what they want.

So Reid, the senate democrats, and Obama agree on delaying Obamacare 1 year, and what will happen is Boehner will say to himself, hey I'm in a red district that will not vote me out, so let's just do this again next year, and the year after that, and the year after that, until they can get a majority in the senate and a republican president to repeal the law.

That's why.

Democrats have more than compromised during these little tantrums.

On a personal note, my spouse has a genetic thyroid condition, genetic diabetes type 2, and genetic high blood pressure, despite eating right and working out everyday. I obviously work as an IC, so does my spouse. The last time she had insurance was when I was able to get to and from a retail job at Sears. She was supposed to go to the doctor in July, but sadly we still haven't been able to pay for her doctor's visit and labs after medication costs. I have insurance, but my spouse really needs insurance. Several people in my family pay health insurance premiums and taxes, including myself to cover her being able to get the privilege to have health insurance.

Last, but not least, to those of you that are against government health care and are on medicaid, please get off it. I know people on it that are against Obamacare and on medicaid, hypocritically. To those on medicare, that's government run healthcare, you have no room to talk. To those of you that don't want this law to go into affect that don't have insurance, please wear an alert that says you don't want to go to the emergency room, because you don't believe in government healthcare.

DUH - delay until 2014 - next election cycle? - just saying

[ In Reply To ..]
Come on people, surely you aren't buying the hype about obamacare from the party who does NOT want us all to have insurance?

IF they can delay what is SO INCREDIBLY OVERDUE until the next election cycle they hope they can use the extra time to gut the law. They make me SICK.

reason things were delayed in the first place is because the Republicans threw a temper tantrum, like children, and they feel it worked the first time, why not try it again, like children. Why don't all you people who are against Obamacare move to states where republicans are not going to use the exchange, and then when you have no healthcare you can blame them, not the rest of the country. I am fortunate, I live in a state where we have a republican who is actually following the Obamacare rules and we will have many people being able to get insurance that couldn't before. I'm not sure why many people think that Obama is the enemy when he is trying to help people that could not get insurance before.
