Anyone who signs up for Obamacare is truly nuts. (sm)

Hope we don't see you here whining when someone steals your identity.

For the hyper-paranoid among us, three words. - Paper enrollment applications.

[ In Reply To ..]
Three more. Apply by phone. Another three. Apply in person.

Any forthcoming replies should exercise caution by posting links dated after November 30 and should also reflect both sides of the story: Statements by David Kennedy, the so-called white-hat hacker currently being interviewed on RW media outlets, and counter-statements made in support of HHS/Sebalius security assessments.

It must be particularly upsetting to GOTP naysayers to see the phenomenal surge in enrollment applications since Nov 30, indicative of their failure to scare/misinform enrollees away from sign-up.

Guess you haven't heard. Most are signing up for Medicaid. - You gonna pay for all of them?

You guess wrong. Been willingly paying all my life. - Now I'm one of them.

[ In Reply To ..]
Despite Governor Perry's best efforts to deny enrollment access to more than a million Medicaid-and OC subsidy-eligible uninsured in Texas, I found my way around it by turning 65. After having been steadily employed and paying into the system for nearly 45 years, I found myself jobless at age 61, unable to earn a living wage with MT and forced to leave the workforce due to chronic pain from DDD and diabetic neuropathy, hypertension and chronic depression, well managed since then under county medical services for low/no income patients.

Meager retirements savings were consumed behind the market crash (a whopping 65% reduction thanks to W) and subsequent unemployment desperation, so I cannot afford to live on the 93% of my SS I would receive if I retired at this stage, nor can I live on the 100% amount I will qualify for after my next birthday. I can, however, live on the 133% I would receive by delaying SS benefits until age 70.

Meanwhile, I signed up for Medicare, not willing to be subjected to a 50% penalty that would accrue were I to wait until age 70 to do that. Hence, the only way I can afford MC premiums, copays, coinsurance, deductibles, donut holes, drug costs, etc., is to apply for Extra Help and Medicare Savings Program offerings. My household income will qualify me for Medicaid so, at least for the time being, my medical care will continue without interruption. I also intend to look into SNAP benefits for seniors.

I make NO apologies to anyone for any of this, especially those partisans who paint my life with the moocher/taker broad brush. I have every intention of surviving until age 70, when I will finally attain a sustainable retirement.

You, dear are in the minority. I have no problem (sm) - Most signing up for Medicaid
[ In Reply To ..]
with your signing up for Medicare (not that you should care whether I do or not). You have a valid reason, IMO. The fact remains, though, that most people signing up for this insurance are receiving Medicaid; therefore, with not as many young, healthy signing up, the system is doomed to failure. I wish you well.
Post above ^^^ I meant Medicaid. - me again

No "reason" needed to sign up for Medicaid. Minority of a - million in TX alone.
[ In Reply To ..]
They have to pass means and resource testing. Either they qualify or they don't.

Sigh. Quite naturally initial enrollees will be the desperate and destitute with pre-existing conditions who had previously gone without coverage or care. Adult children up to age 26 are allowed to be included on their parents' plans. The enrollment period does not end until March 31. Those three statements are facts.

To my knowledge, no figures on how many "young, healthy" signups thus far have been reported. Therefore, there is no factual basis for the "system is doomed to failure" statement. Pure speculation, partisan prognostications and predictions of gloom and doom are simply not my thing. Of course, others are free to indulge their fantasies to their heart's content.

Great post. It is exactly as you said it was. (SM) - Libby

I sent in my initial application for Medicaid, and they responded asking me to provide those very things: Value of my car, a bank statement and how many dollars I have in medical bills for the last three months.

I have just finished putting all these things together, and they're in an envelope, ready for mailing to them.

Thanks for hopefully clearing this up for others who don't understand it.

truly in need of medical insurance but earned too much money to qualify. The amount that rendered one to be eligible for Medicaid has been risen to people at any age, and they still have to qualify by income, BUT they have relaxed the income amounts to extend (sometimes) to people that earn (an example) $20,000, instead of $8,000 (approximately). Who knows? You yourself may be eligible for Medicaid; it all depends on your income.

I personally feel relieved that I'm eligible for Medicaid, and I associate no shame whatsoever in accepting it.

I believe, as time goes on, there won't be the stigma that has been associated with Medicaid for all these years.
Bravo for you!! (sm) - Libby
[ In Reply To ..]
I also was found to be eligible for "Extra Help" with Medicare.

I very much agree with you that you make NO apologies to anyone for this. I worked for 40 years, and I feel the same way you.

While I was waiting those years for the decision in my Social Security case, I received ZERO in Medicaid benefits, $200.00 per month for other items, such as shampoo, deodorant, etc. -- all the things that I couldn't purchase with my $200.00 food stamp allotment to live on each month. (By the way, EVERY SINGLE PENNY of that $200.00/month cash payment was paid back once I was approved for my Social Security benefits.)

So that's a total of $400.00 a month, and I don't see that as being rich, as some people would have you believe.
Those who would paint people like you and me don't even understand what has happened with Medicaid vs. Medicare and yet they want to come on here and tell me something totally different than WHAT I HAVE BEEN LIVING for the past seven years (pretending they know me and my life and then negatively judge me). When they do things like that, that only makes me question the veracity of any other posts they may write.

We need to have more posts like yours, who are actually going through these things in real life, as opposed to the imaginary, hateful posts directed at folks like you and me.

thinks I deserve to go without medical care and suffer in pain the rest of my days, forego SNAP and opt instead to starve myself and conveniently drop dead before I reach 70 and collect the SS benefits it took 45 years of blood, sweat and tears to accumulate! Maybe it's the same one who thinks you are all preachy and judgmental for applying for disability INSURANCE (you paid for in advance with your social security contributions during your working years) and having the utter gall to find a way to keep hair clean, your body hygienic and your belly halfway full while waiting YEARS for an obviously legitimate disability claim determination and trying to live on $400/month! But then you already knew that when you predicted there would be folks on this board who would gleefully cut your SS disability in your post under the Carson thread. Sure didn't take long, did it?

This preachy/judgmental indignation sounds like the hubris of a youngster who believes s/he is indestructible and will live forever and who has yet to learn that what goes around comes around. Poor dear.

you claim I did. In fact I didn't even see that post. Please provide a link of the poster who said "you should go in pain the rest of your days" and all the other stuff. Must have missed that one.

Would you like to know why I disliked your post?

1. I didn't like your post calling people who have concerns about a flawed system "hyper-paranoid". It's snotty and ridiculing.

2. What you wrote about Gov Perry I feel is wrong. I got to that and stopped there. Disliked it and moved on.

Now going back over your post I read the whole thing. I still don't believe you about Gov Perry. You may be correct but I would need to see proof of this. I'm no Perry fan, but what I mainly see is democrats are not putting blame where blame belongs for this whole mess....with the democrats.

As for the rest of your post if I had read the whole thing I would not have given it a dislike. I'm terribly sorry you are going through everything you are.

But then you wrote this message filled with assumptions. Then when you ended it with "poor dear" (a ridicule) then I give this post a dislike. Just not the one talking about your medical problems because that's not nice. So I take back my dislike of your previous post and I give you a dislike for this one.
The Medicaid coverage gap under OC - is
[ In Reply To ..]
brought to us in its entirety by the GOP. Culpability starts at the top with SCOTUS cons who voted to make Medicaid expansion under ACA optional. It then commences down the line to governors of every red state who decided to refuse to expand the program. The first link is to an interactive map that shows which states these are. If you mouse over a state, a popup window will tell you how many Medicaid-eligible state residents will be DENIED that coverage under ACA others in similar income brackets in blue states will be getting. If for some reason you "don't believe" the TPM map, then by all means check out the more comprehensive Kaiser Foundation report its data was extracted from (second link).

Furthermore, the majority of these same impoverished folks will neither be able to afford policy premiums on the exchanges nor will they qualify for tax credit subsidies. When I inspected the TX site and used their calculator, I was abruptly told I qualify for no subsidies and that my premiums for an individual policy $797/month...an amount completely oblivious to the household income of $11,359! IOW, the so-called anti-ACA Texas exchange is nothing more than a sick, mean joke. The only good thing about that is the TX site premium gouging sans Medicaid would qualify me for an exemption from the penalty....since ACA does not assess the fee if state premium costs exceed 8% of household income, a protection written into the law by democrats, I might add. Of note, that premium represents a whooping 84% of total income.

If I lived in a blue state, I'd be on Medicaid in a heartbeat, but in Texas, had I not turned 65 and become eligible for Medicaid that way, I'd either remain uninsured or be one of many Texans placed into the position of having to seriously consider moving from my beloved home state (where I grew up and lived my entire life) to a more humane blue state residence, thus becoming an internally displaced political/economic refugee.

You are entitled to your own opinions, but not to your own set of facts. There is plenty, plenty, plenty more info available on GOTP culpability in creating this grossly unjust situation. After all, they have spent the last 3 years doing their best to sabotage ACA at every turn. Actions do speak louder than words, don't they?

so I will not be commenting on security issues until the dust settles and more comprehensive assessments from multiple sources become available...not likely anytime soon. Meanwhile, I will say that stupidity abounds in the form of phony horror story after phony horror story, typically debunked within a day or two of reporting. I think incessant lying about the law, fake websites, and misinformation campaigns qualify as stupid. Creepy ads featuring duckbill-speculum wielding Uncle Sam peering up a hospital gown at a young woman's privates is REALLY stupid. So are 49 failed votes to repeal Obamacare by House obstructionists, and/or shifting focus from attacks on initial front-end glitches to hypothetical back-end fixes after the Nov 30th glitch fix.

When OC has racked up tens of millions of hits on Google relating to confidential medical records breaches that matches the massive data currently available on private insurance company and healthcare facility breaches, we just might have an issue worth discussing. It's so common, hospitals and other healthcare providers are in the process of developing a brand new market....data breach insurance (an 18.2-million-hit Google search).

One morning when I woke up, I first turned on the computer and then went to make some coffee. By the time I went back to my computer, that "CAT>" was on every line from the top to the bottom of the page. This was after I saw my cat jump off my desk out of the corner of my eye. He apparently had his paw on the "enter" key, and it just kept going!

[ In Reply To ..]
I also would never begrudge someone who actually needed government assistance the ability to partake of it. That is specifically what Medicaid was designed for.

But I have to agree with Abby - it reeks of stupidity. And I also the whole OC Program has purpose.

This OC fiasco is going to be America's first step into the mud puddle of communism. It's going to seem great to some at first - the government is going to make sure EVERYONE is insured. It's not going to stop there though. We all have to be equal, right? They will cut out social classes, none of us greater than the other. Everyone will have a job. Everyone will make the same thing. Everyone will have at least some money in their pockets.

What good will that do when there is nothing to buy?

I don't know. Maybe this country needs to be set back a bit. Maybe if our kids considered an orange or an apple an indulgence and a treat, and all of us had to start living without everything we wanted right when we wanted it, our future generations would be brought up with more character and more appreciation for the really good things in life, like a bed to sleep in, food to eat, a roof over our heads.

It's coming. And no, I am not a conspiracy theorist or a right-wing fanatic (though I am considering making friends with at least a few.) People do seriously need to open their eyes though. Pretty soon we all will be equal like so many in this country have wanted for years. The problem is, we'll all be equally hungry and equally destitute. But at least we'll have health insurance! :)

Political Correctness Is NUTS!!Jul 13, 2015
Pretty soon, the left is going to lead the charge to take all religious interpretations out of names of cities and people. Can you see just about every city in California changing it's name, i.e., San Diego, Santa Barbara, San Francisco, Sacramento, etc. You get my drift. Also, every person with "chris" in their name will be forced to change it. No more Christopher, Christine, Christianne, etc. No more Jesus either. Won't that be a hoot. The ILLEGALS will love that one! ...

GOP Is Nuts-maybe In Spare Time After AdoptingMay 15, 2015
as they obviously feel that the poor cannot make any decisions for themselves and that they are higher and mightier than all, let them figure out how to take care of the children and feed the families. Obamacare Is Failing From Behind... His Goals For ObamacareJul 20, 2016
1) Have it collapse so that single payer can be implemented amidst the ensuing chaos. 2) Have that happen on somebody else’s watch. Obamacare was designed to fail so the Democrats could “reform” it with complete government provided socialized medicine. That is the entire purpose for it. Obamacare is designed to collapse so they can backfill the vacuum with government run socialized medicine. Eventually, everyone will be on some form of Medicare. I believe that was one of Bernie’ ...

President Signs Order To Fight SuperbugsSep 18, 2014
As one who has been personally impacted by MRSA I am happy to see this.  Three years ago I had a spider bite that was progressively getting worse.  I wasn't alarmed as I was waiting for my scheduled doctor's appointment coming up in a few days.  The day of my appointment I passed out 2 times in five minutes. My organs were shutting down one-by-one and my brain was beginning to be oxygen deprived, which is why I passed out.  My doctor called a surgeon to his office t ...
