Soup to nuts!

Posted: Jan 29, 2013

Can we assemble a multi-course menu of diseases and symptoms?  (My vote would be preferably withOUT getting scatological, being as I'm pretty sure all of us here are older than 8, or 10, or whatever that age is.)

I'll start off the menu with a nice word salad!

head of lettuce! - -

We're writing a menu... - Bilboa

...comprised of medical terms that sound like they ought to be some kind of food.

(Of course, now that I actively TRY to think of one besides "word salad," I'm drawing a complete blank! Hopefully your brains will pick up where mine just... uh... left off.)

I get it now. - "word salad" is a good one.

[ In Reply To ..]
I'm having brain freeze, except for Peaux d'Orange Juice. I KNOW someone else here can do better than THAT. Peaux d'orange is way too good a term to waste on mere juice.

Adam's Apple - nm

We need a wine drinker here! - Bilboa

[ In Reply To ..]
Okay, I'm gonna embarrass myself here. I got the "port wine stain" right away, but I didn't reply 'cause I don't drink & was hoping someone who knows what you do meal-wise with port wine would grab it & run with it. I'm having this vague recollection that port wine (stain!) would be served after the meal. Am I right? Do I vaguely recall something about serving it with walnuts, or am I hallucinating that?

coffee grounds - nm

Soup Shortcuts--got Any?Feb 03, 2012
Last night I had some leftover butternut squash, put it through a sieve, and mixed it up with some dried packaged soup mix (creamy potato) and a can of chicken broth and some water.  It was surprisingly tasty and it got me thinking. Anyone have any quick, easy, soup recipes or methods to doctor it up a bit?  Any garnishes or side dishes? Thanks. ...

1 5 lb bag red potatoes. 1 cup half and half 8 ounces sour cream 1 stick butter 1 pound fully cooked ham Peel and cook potatoes with just enough water to cover.  Do not discard water.  Add other ingredients.  Very good on a cold day with crusty bread. ...

I Must Be NutsAug 08, 2011
In a bit of a situation and I'm not sure what to do about it.   I'm divorced with teens.  The ex has very little contact with me or the kids and we are all fine with that.  He was always absent even when he was physically there anyway.  I have a boyfriend who is also divorced, no kids.   His ex walked out on him the final time after having left him several times in the past.  Not to mention she was constantly looking for her "next" husband on Match.com an ...

You Do Not Want Others To Think You Are Nuts?Jan 19, 2013

The football player said he kept up with the story because did not want people to think he was crazy. Well, guess what, I think right now you probably are in need of some very professional assistance. You have the money and you need to put it to some good use. To say you have a girlfriend (or boyfriend for that reason) and are in love with th ...

This Is NutsAug 31, 2014
Okay, so this is nuts. I am looking for a non-MT work-at-home job. I went on a couple of websites, and many of the jobs require that I speak English AND Spanish. REQUIRED. Okay, so I have to learn their language, but they don't have to learn mine? When my grandpa came to this country back when the hard-working immigrants were making this country, nobody catered to his language of Italian. If he didn't learn to speak English, he couldn't survive here. More, unless he took a cou ...

Wild Mushroom SoupNov 24, 2012
Just curious if you made the mushroom soup recipe I posted and that we made.  It turned out soooo good.  I did find out that hubby puts a few more doo-dads in there that aren't in the recipe.  He LOVES to cook, so he plays around a bit. He also put some mushroom powder in there, but I don't think he deviates too far from that recipe. ...

Share Pea Soup RecipesOct 13, 2014
I'd like to share my pea soup recipe, and would like other ideas as well. I don't measure things, so just use your own judgment, likes/dislikes. Use a very heavy pot like an enamel pot or dutch oven. First, I take some olive oil, heat it, then sautee up some chopped garlic, onions, celery and carrots. I remove them from the pan when they're done, add a little more olive oil, then brown up a ham steak really well. Let the bottom of the pot get brown. (You can cube the ham steak ...

Drives Them NutsMar 23, 2011
This is what drives the Democrats in my state absolutely nuts. Tax credits for business will make their head spin. But, here's how it works in very, very simple terms, since I'm certainly not an economist (and I want to go to bed early tonight)  :-) Here's how it works: -company gets tax break/incententive to invest in the area -company uses money to expand/build/hire employees -employees become tax payers - off unemployment, food stamps, or other gov't assistance ( ...

How Would You Make A Bean Soup To Taste BetterJul 25, 2010
I'd like a vegetarian type bean soup.  I had a recipe that I followed but it tasted just blah to blech.  One of those I don't know whether I like it but its bordering on a "no" (if that makes sense).  I want to use swiss chard and garlic in it.  What I had originally done was cut some swiss chard from my garden, sauteed it in garlic and a little olive oil.  Then I added 2 cans of vegetarian vegteble broth, 3 cups of water, and 2 cups of canelli bean, salt and p ...

Political Correctness Is NUTS!!Jul 13, 2015
Pretty soon, the left is going to lead the charge to take all religious interpretations out of names of cities and people. Can you see just about every city in California changing it's name, i.e., San Diego, Santa Barbara, San Francisco, Sacramento, etc. You get my drift. Also, every person with "chris" in their name will be forced to change it. No more Christopher, Christine, Christianne, etc. No more Jesus either. Won't that be a hoot. Recipe For Vegetable Soup With Clear BrothJun 18, 2015
Does anyone out there have a delish recipe for clear broth veggie soup?  I have been hungry for it.  We have recently gone almost completely gluten free, and am loving it.  It was so easy.  not a diet, a lifestyle change.  I am not suffering major cravings, except for ice cream.  Summer, ice cream, hand-in-hand.  Anyway, I would appreciate any recipes you can send my way.  Also am looking for a totally tasty salad dressing that is clear based and gluten-fr ...
