Anyone here even mildly hopeful that Obamacare will work?

Posted: Aug 2, 2013

For this poster, who has been without insurance for a while now and is panicked at really needing immediate medical care, I CANNOT WAIT to see how this plan pans out.

What is really revolting are those who are falling overthemselves trying to derail this before it gets fully implemented.   I guess people who cannot stand the thought that the Obama administration FINALLY started a national plan that might actually be successful - G*d-forbid they ever have to give any credit to this president.

Agendas are so transparent...

As to my agenda?  I would just REALLY like to be able to see a doctor WHEN I NEED TO versus having to do without, or having no choice but to go to an ER where the costs will be grossly more than it needs be.

Even if the plan is not what I hope for, and has to be reworked AT LEAST OBAMA started the ball rolling, while the so-called 'family values' party played obstructionist at every turn.  Shame on THAT.

have no insurance now. That's it. Pre-existing has already gone into effect, I believe, so they benefit. Everyone else gets shafted.

How does every one else get shafted? - just saying

Okay, I don't know about you but I am - already getting shafted!

[ In Reply To ..]
What, you don't think paying premiums, even lower ones, when if anything happens you have to fork out deductible to $3000 before they will pay ANYTHING isn't getting shafted? You don't think that if you have an operation the insurance company can pick at your claim until they virtually end up paying next to nothing because they claim the hospital overcharged isn't being shafted? You don't think that us lower income people having to pay high deductibles, huge out of pockets, and no caps on anything isn't getting shafted?

Please, the health/insurance system is the biggest source of inequality in this country. Explain to me how come someone making $100,000 has employer paid, gold plated health insurance, low or no deductibles and co-pays, and top class access to the best facilities when THEY are the ones who can afford to pay all the deductibles and OOP costs? So not only are they so awesome that they not only get a great salary but they deserve free health care too but we don't? Obamacare has gotta be better for the likes of us.

I see $6000 per person OOP and reasonable copays for everything. Now maybe I will get a physical or a mammogram because what's the point getting one and finding out something is wrong if you can't pay the high cost to get it checked out? Definitely not shafted.

You must be on your hubby's insurance, because anything out of these miserable MTSOs insurance-wise is horrible and this will most definitely be better.

Good thing you didn't assume anything... much - just saying

[ In Reply To ..]
Not sure what reads like a screed was intended to do but you hardly made one salient point - it was lots of opinion and some assumptions, namely that I am woman, or that I am married.
So why don't you explain if or how - you will be shafted?
[ In Reply To ..]
Or else how you feel it is unfair because you have good coverage and feel this will take it away? Because if you have good coverage I guarantee you it is not through an MT job so explain why do you think anyone will be shafted. Not much opinion, no. Just the facts.

To you Dislikers - Is it because I'm right?

[ In Reply To ..]
And you don't like it? Or is it because you were hoping people would stay stupid and not figure out that Obamacare will be better for mid-lower income people?

The only way I can see people getting upset by Obamacare is they have one of those gold plated policies and low costs and don't want anyone else to have decent coverage. So tell me how that is not being plain greedy?

insurance companies will have to begin to COMPETE with the Affordable Care Act to get business, so I believe their rates will drop, so that even the person who hates Obama the most will benefit from the plan.

I'm disabled and have Medicare. Before that, I had no medical insurance because I simply couldn't afford it.

I'm glad for people like you (and I would have been with you if I hadn't gotten on Medicare) who will finally be able to have an affordable healthcare plan. Of course, the republicans don't want people like you and me to benefit from the new insurance plan. That's why they're so panicky about the Affordable Care Act: People might actually LIKE it and then the pubs will never be able to take it away from them again. Idiots like Ted Cruz want to stop the funding for a perfectly legal law (upheld by the SCOTUS) because he and those of his ilk want to keep poor people where they are: poor and with the middle class getting poorer and poorer as time goes by, with no access to life-saving medicine.

They just want us all to die quickly.

Me. 1. I already have my resignation ready. 2. I'm - almost safe from cancellation

For those who are NOT in favor of Obamacare, or some other sort of health insurance coverage for all Americans--why would you NOT want everyone to have some kind of health insurance coverage?

I can't figure out, for the life of me, what the reason would be that some don't want everyone to be covered by health insurance.

I would sincerely like to know why you don't want that. And if you DO want everyone to be covered by some kind of health insurance but you're against Obamacare, how do you think coverage for everyone will ever become a reality?

I think they just want the right to not have to pay - for any insurance

[ In Reply To ..]
Never mind what happens when they get sick, they just think if they don't have to pay for insurance that is freedom. Whether they are too young or too healthy to have had any brushes with poor health and feel they are invincible or whether they just don't care if they go to the emergency room and can't pay, feel it is okay if taxpayers pay their bills because poor little them can't afford the insurance and Mitt Romney said it was okay! Or else churches can help. Or something.

Personally, I think if anything were to happen, to wake up in a hospital bed knowing you were not going to face financial ruin, knowing you are a payer and insured in good faith, that would be so much better than waking up knowing you owed the earth whether you could pay it or not.

Honey, do you know how many doctors are getting ready to quit their professions because of this? There are even docs who are considering running for political office just to defeat this measure.

It would be nice to have insurance for everyone, but not everyone wants their hard-earned money going out that way. Plus, if this is a "tax" there go our paychecks. We already have at least 1/3 gone to programs that don't work, have never worked, and probably won't ever work. I have a hard enough time making ends meet now without the distinct possibility that more of my paycheck is going to go down the tubes.

No, - NK

I don't know how many doctors are getting ready to quit their professions because of this, honey. Perhaps you could post some figures. As far as docs considering running for political office just to defeat this measure, they'll be kinda late to the dance since it's already the law.

It's one thing not to want your hard-earned money going for insurance, but I can guarantee you don't want it going for a bunch of medical bills in the event you don't have insurance. In the last couple of months, I've had about $6,000 worth of cardiac diagnostics, and I was very happy that I had been paying a premium every month and owed approximately $300 of it.

How can doctors NOT quit? sm - Old Woman

[ In Reply To ..]
Doctors are currently paid about 75 cents on the dollar as it is. If you don't believe me, look at your latest doctor's statement and see how much he writes off for accepting your brand of insurance under the current HMO/PPO system. Under Obamacare, doctors can expect that reimbursement to drop to about 18 cents on the dollar based on best estimates. Consider how we have moaned and groaned because our rates have dropped over the last 20 years and how we are no longer able to afford the homes and cars that we could in the 1990s. Doctors in small private practices are going to feel the crunch the most, but larger practices and even hospitals are not going to be exempt from the slashing of their reimbursement. From a personal observation, a medical center for which I transcribe has already cut the hospitalist services back in anticipation of the coming Obamacare.

Those who are in favor of Obamacare need to realize a few things. (1) Obamacare does not mean free healthcare. (2) Your insurance premiums, copays, and OOP expenses may be reduced, but so will your access to medical care due to the aforementioned issues within the medical community. (3) If Obamacare is going to pay for your healthcare, you can bet your bottom dollar that it will determine what care you can and cannot receive based on your age and your medical comorbidities (read "ration" here). (4) With a huge babyboomer generation entering into the Medicare age and with Medicare already struggling to keep up with the demand, Obamacare will nail shut the coffin lid on being able to keep your own physician. Don't believe me? I recently had to search through the phone book just to find a physician for my aging mother who would accept Medicare. And don't even get me started about Medicaid.

In the end, Obamacare will cost us and cost us dearly in ways we have not yet even begun to realize.

I am posting just 1 link that I found discussing the upcoming Obamacare and how it will impact medical care.
First, - NK

may I point out that that's an opinion piece written by a member of the Fox News Medical A Team. Perhaps he truly believes that doctors are going to leave the work force when they are forced to reduce their incomes from a zillion dollars a year to only half a zillion.

I worked for a group of internists when Medicare was implemented and heard the same doomsday predictions that I'm hearing today regarding the ACA. I'm also aware that my physicians write off a portion of my billings. It seems to me that receiving $385 out of $600 for taking 5 minutes to review a computer-generated echo report is sufficient.

In regard to finding a physician who accepts Medicare for your aging mother, may I suggest that physicians have been accepting patients based on insurance coverage (or lack thereof) for ages. Imagine your dismay if you had tried to find a doctor for an elderly patient who has no insurance. Of course, that's not likely with the availability of Medicare.

it's going to be a disaster! - curly

obamacare is ALREADY costing jobs! companies cannot afford to implement it -- it costs a fortune to learn it, get other people trained on it, etc. - PLUS just the implementation is taking employees away from what they were already doing; companies are having to hire NEW people to implement it, which means they're not hiring people to GROW their businesses; they're taking their eyes off the growing the business ball; NOT to mention that, because they can't afford to implement the new law, they're pushing people to part-time! AND on top of that - deductibles are going SKY HIGH because of this! shame on the people trying to "derail it"? THANK GOD there are people trying to derail it. BESIDES, you're NOT going to be able to see a doc when you want to - this is TRULY going to be healthcare rationing!!

But still, can anyone.... - (see message)

Obamacare is designed to collapse so they can backfill the vacuum with government run socialized medicine. Eventually, everyone will be on some form of Medicare.
