Not sure if this is a health issue but...

Posted: Nov 12, 2013

I have a bra question. I've recently learned that I have been wearing the wrong size bra for years (who hasn't unfortunately). I was sized at Victoria Secret and am a size 34DDD. I've always worn bigger size bras to fit the cups and had spillage and still had a gap in the band part, no matter the size or style, and now I know why they never fit properly. Well, VS has my size 34DDD (of course) in many styles but they are at least $50 for one bra and way out of my price range, not to mention not convenient distance to drive to buy one. Does anyone know where else I can find a hard to find size for less than $50. I'm talking $40 or less (preferably less). I've looked online but they either do not go up to DDD or are more than $50. I am more concerned about fit over fashion so plain colors are fine with or w/o lace, etc. Anyone else in the hard to find bra committee? Thanks for the help.;

VS - same here sort of

[ In Reply To ..]
I got sized there recently too, was told I wear a 32D. All my life I've worn 34, first B and then C, but never dreamed I was a D. I kind of suspect that VS "flatters" their clientele if you know what I mean. Don't assume that the size they gave you will be the same size in another brand of bra.

I tried on a number of VS bras and found the style I liked best. You should do that too, then go to Ebay and buy the exact same thing there.

Herroom.com
Ladies foundation garments, prices run the gamut, but you can search by what is on sale and in your size, 5+ pages of bras on sale in your size ranging from $25 to $50+ today. Reviews available from other buyers on many styles.

Try The Bra and Girdle Factory. Just google it; it's in Lakewood, NJ. nm - broke

right now on selected full-sizers: Buy 1, 2nd one 1/2 price. A couple styles had your size. However, I do not know about shipping costs other than free if purchasing $75+. It may not help now, but maybe get on their mailing list for future deals.

Thanks all... - clb

I forgot to mention that I live in WI so would have to order online mostly and I hate underwire. Never thought that my size would be different in other brands than what VS told me (thanks who suggested that). I feel like I was flattered there too a little. That's their job I guess. Maybe I should get a PT job there to get a discount? LOL

Thanks for the suggestions all, I will look at all those sites.

How would you feel - about a leisure bra instead?

[ In Reply To ..]
If you are working from home, could be a leisure bra for most days would be okay, and you could get just a couple of "regular" bras for going out.

Leisure bras have more leeway in terms of stretch, and for the most part, are cheaper than a regular bra.

I have found a wide variety in sizes in bras. It's quite frustrating to say the least, so I feel your pain. I'm a 38C, which is just sort of averaqe in the scheme of bra sizes, but one brand in a 38C may fit, and in another, too small. I buy Bali Double Support. It's got lots of stretch and plenty of support without wires.

TJMaxx, Marshall's, Kohl's with a coupon - Etc.

[ In Reply To ..]
I'm glad someone mentioned that bras are not sized the same.

If you live near one, TJMaxx and Marshall's have good stuff at good prices. Might even have the VS. Kohl's has good prices if you get a sale, a coupon, and Kohl's cash at the same time.

You might try an Olga. They are full-figured and not skimpily teenage ... no silly narrow straps, narrow 2-hook bands, or cups cut down to whereever. With that cup size, you need 3 hooks minimum. They last FOR YEARS, too.

Once you know what size and style, you're set.

I agree with Kohl's and Olga...SM - Old Anon

I buy all my bras there but wait for s sale and/or the buy 1 get 1 half price and even sometimes buy 2, send away for a 3rd one free. I used to buy Olga, but they stopped making the averages sizes and now only have the larger sizes. They also have someone at Kohl's who can measure you, and I'd get a second opinion on that. My size (band and cup) also changes depending on the brand/style of bra, so you must always try it on. If you don't have a Kohl's nearby, try to find the Olga bras somewhere and find one you like, then you can buy from Kohl's online and still take advantage of the sales.

Bra size - MinL

My sweet young DinL was sized and she wears about a 32-F or G and the only company she found was on the Internet, in England. Find a seamstress, deconstruct a bra that fits and make them or have them made.

Have you tried Amazon? - nm

Nice ideas everyone... - clb

[ In Reply To ..]
I've thought about that too, either asking my MIL who is a seamstress to help me make a DIY bra or else a leisure bra or sports bra or whatever they are called now. I do have one sports bra that just basically covers the girls, no support for actual sports, but at least they are not swaying in the wind LOL. I never thought about just having a few good bras for when I'm out of the house and just wearing the leisure bra being at home all day anyway. That's always an option. I wear camis alot too under my shirts. I'm just picky about bras also besides underwire, they usually have padding or push your boobs up, I don't need that! Just hold em up. LOL

Thanks again all!

Sports bra vs leisure bra - see msg

[ In Reply To ..]
A leisure bra and sports bra are 2 completely different things. A sports bra is designed to hold the girls (like a girdle) so they don't bounce around while doing sports.

A leisure bra is just a comfortable support--not the same as a regular bra--but just enough support for comfort and enough support so you don't bounce around while walking down the driveway to get the mail.
TY. Good to know. Never heard of a leisure bra before. Thanks again! - clb
[ In Reply To ..]
I thought maybe they were the same thing, like some say sports bra and some say leisure bra, like a regional thing. But I guess not. Thanks for clarifying that. I'm in WI and we say bubbler, not drinking fountain. A fountain is what you throw pennies into. LOL
Definitely not the same thing - Sports vs Leisure
[ In Reply To ..]
It's a common misconception, but sports vs leisure is pretty well defined. Check any on-line store or catalog.

I love my leisure bras. You can even sleep in one, it's so comfy. I don't sleep in one because I'm of average boobie size, but for someone who has big, big boobies, they might find it comfy for sleeping.

A leisure bra is almost like the bra equivalent of a pair of sweat pants or sweat shorts. Just comfy, comfy.

Boobie "sweat pants" sounds nice LOL - clb

I can't believe I've never heard of a leisure bra before. Never really paid attention I guess. Sounds nice.
Like sweats with support - Try one!

I hated mine - sm
[ In Reply To ..]
I've tried several styles, thinking that they will be delightfully comfy, kind of like bunny slippers. They were all awful. I am a DD and everything just ached with them on. One of them was so miserable I almost snatched it off in the grocery store.

The person I gave them to looooves them. Best things she's ever had.

(Hope your experience is happy!!)
Are you sure - You weren't wearing a sports bra??
[ In Reply To ..]
I can't imagine a leisure bra being so uncomfortable. Are you sure you're not mistaking it for a sports bra? A sports bra is a boobie girdle so the girls stay tight while being active. Unless your leisure bras were too small (or extremely low-cost), then they should have been comfy.

I couldn't live without my leisure bras. Working from home, there's no reason to wear a normal one. I save those for when I go shopping and things.
Yup, sure it was leisure, it fit, good quality. - Oww!
[ In Reply To ..]
Sports bras are no problem.

I think it was the lack of support.

Update on my bra dilemma - clb

[ In Reply To ..]
In case anyone was waiting to hear back...LOL

Anyway, I got a gift card from work for Christmas and I chose Boston Store as there is one in my town. Well I ordered online 2 Bali double support minimizer wire free bras in 34DDD and while they look old lady-ish (one is tan and one is white) they work great! I figure no one sees them anyway except DH and they are not a sexy gonna-get-some bra (as I have some of those) that as long as these fit and function, I'm happy with them. It took me about a day or two to get used to wearing them because I was so used to always pulling, tugging, adjusting, straps sliding, underboob, overboob, side boob problems that going an hour without adjusting anything even after bending over to pick something up and not falling out was just wonderful. So I think I found a bra that works. I will take very good care of them and hopefully they will last for years. These are my leaving the house bras and I never see a bra or boob line in any top I wear either. It's weird to be this excited about a new bra PLUS I used my gift card to cover tax and shipping so I got 2 bras for nothing! I also bought a Genie bra from walmart to wear at home and I like that one as well.

Just an update. Thanks again all for the suggestions. :-)

Health Insurance Is A Poor Measure Of Health Care.Sep 14, 2011
On Tuesday, the Census Bureau released its annual report on health insurance coverage in the United States. News media widely misconstrued the data and presented the problems facing the nation's health care system through a distorted lens. Many major news outlets made a basic error when reporting on the Census Bureau study. The Los Angeles Times wrote that "the number of Americans with no health insurance rose in 2010 to 49.9 million from 49 million the year before." But the figure c ...
