Ivory soap and leg cramps

The family practice doc I type for has been telling patients to put a bar of Ivory soap under the sheets in their beds to help RLS and leg cramps. I thought "how bizarre" but the patients are swearing up and down that it actually works. I googled it and sure enough, a lot of people are using it. I can't find any explanation why it works, just that it does. I have been plagued for years with RLS and can't afford the medication so I can't wait to go out and get my Ivory soap. Has anybody else tried this?

I mean, you put a lumpy bar of hard soap under the sheet you're laying on? I can't picture what you mean.

Thanks for the information! It sounds weird, but I'd try anything if I were in pain.

What about just bathing with it. I do, although I don't have RLS. (NM) - MT Lady

I was amazed to read your post, and I just did a Snopes.com on it. They say while nobody is sure how is works, many people say it does. I was checking some websites on this last night,and from what I read it's worth a try! I have RLS, fibromyalgia, etc. I just told a friend, and she is getting Ivory soap today. Thanks for posting.

Lately I will all of a sudden start getting cramps while trying to work normally around my knee or right underneath. So distracting I have to get up and walk around but it always comes back. Have tried drinking more water but so far no help. Any suggestions? ...

It's been over a year, and I am finally down to 19 bars of soap. I have had to walk away from the soap aisle just to stop myself, resisting the urge to purchase even more. What is up with that? Also, I must have 20 plates and 20 coffee cups, with just me and my 10/yo living here. Most of those are going to have to hit the thrift store, since I just bought 4 more! I know I'm nuts. Just wondering if there are others out there who cannot stop themselves ...
